Laius was asleep in his room with his two kids on the bed watching the TV in the early morning. Caetia and was clapping along to a song being played on a children's cartoon, Apius joined with her while singing along to the words. Caetia always got very excited when her favourite show came on which has a simple plot of 'A magical young girl (human) who could transform into different forms and spread magic across the world and galaxy.' Apius loved the show as well and took great comfort from it with how carefree the girl was in her endeavors to make people happy, helping animals and the places she got to go to. The song that was playing felt especially magical to the two, it had a sweet and dreamy feel to it while being catchy and warm. Without it being piercing it was easy to sleep through with how audibly cute it was, at least for Laius. Caetia couldn't sing along but loved hearing her big brother do it, which he did so while cuddling his sister from behind with her in his lap. Caetia giggled and kept trying to touch her brother's face while he sung. Occasionally she stuck her fingers into his mouth laughing when she succeeded, Apius couldn't help but laugh when she got him. The scene on the TV shifted to a mother hugging the main character, cradling her with a sad lullaby song. The sudden change caught the two of them off guard. The tone was heart-wrenching and sweet with the lyrics giving an lot of love behind every word, this causing Caetia to start crying and hold onto her brother's arms. The lyrics said over and over 'You and me' with with the two characters smiling at each other while credits played down the screen.
"It's ok Cae, it's ok." Apius said with tears in his eyes, he rested his head on her shoulder as they wept together.
"I miss mummy..." Caetia wept while rubbing her right eyes, getting louder in her weeping. "This suppose to be happy show. Wh-why is sad..." Apius didn't have an answer but moved her and him to lie on their sides while holding her close. Laius only started to wake up hearing his kids crying below him with a song on the TV playing. He sat up in a slight daze and crawled down to them.
"Hey-hey, are you two ok?" Apius let go of Caetia as she pushed out of his hold to hug her Dad while crying loudly. Apius slowly came up to his Dad with a shattered face, Laius rested one hand on Caetia's back and the other on Apius's head. He looked at the TV and gulped slightly, he wasn't prepared for this. "This is- this is a happy song you two."
"No it's not!" Caetia cried in a muffled loud matter into her Dad. Laius paid closer attention to the TV as he saw what upset them. He cried silently with his heart broken, seeing the family come together on the TV. Feeling lightheaded he gulped, breathed deeply, looking away for a moment to gather himself.
"I see, I see." He trembled with his mandibles twitching a lot with each word. He stared blankly at the TV as the show came to a close, Apius turning off the TV to walk off silently in the process. Laius picked up and craddled his little girl and with teary eyes looked into her eyes. "I- I love you so much Caetia, remember that." His tears dripped onto her forehead with her crying softer now. It will be a while when they all calm down but for now Laius was doing his best. He kissed Caetia on her forehead, slowly stood up and carried her out. He walked around the house softly and slightly bobbing his little girl up and down as he took her around. Apius went to his bed to cry under the covers trying to find cold comfort in loneliness. He grabbed his mother's necklace and held it close to him as he wept silently to himself. All he could think of was his mother and all the memories he had when she was around. Stern, strong but she loved him and Caetia dearly and he remembers being held in his mother's arms much like Laius was doing right now for Caetia. It stung, it hurt. After 15 minutes Apius calmed down and crawled out of his sheets, his heart racing with anxiety. "Hey now, don't rub your snot all over your brother." In cleaning around her nose Laius also cleaned up the small mess on Apius's chest, "Now you two go play games while I conjure up some food for you two." Caetia turned around after letting go of Apius and cheered,

"Hey that's my line! Come on Cae let's play Neo Eden". Apius laughed, grabbing her hand and dashing off with her to the living room. Laius looked at the food supply and decided to make pancakes after a bit of pondering as it would cheer up his kids. He was still dazed from suddenly waking up, his heart racing and aching with sorrow he couldn't hide. But he persevered so his two kids could eat as the thought of his kids hungry and sad was driving him to please, what he was feeling right now was unimportant. As he was cooking he heard Fidius call out the front with Apius answering the door, Laius trembling slightly of the fear that someone unknown to the family could have revealed everything. As Fidius greeted the kids he set off to the kitchen to where Laius was.
"Hey Laius, you should really be more careful." Fidius came in with a box of supplies in a nonchalant fashion. "Good thing it was me, I mean. But someone could-" He looked at Laius who was visually shattered slowly nodding while twitching his mandibles. "Oh shit, you probably know that." Fidius paused once more, "Oh shit, what happened?" Laius explained what had happened to his knowledge while cooking, all the meanwhile with stilting his words with a gut wrenching sensation. Fidius did his best to listen and show concern, he walked around to the otherside of the stove to sit down and face Laius. 
"Right now, I don't know what to do."

Caetia ran away giggling from her brother to which he gave chase in a playful gesture, Laius sighed shaking his head slightly but remained smiling. He got up and picked up their plates and as much of the food as he could, Fidius getting a wet cloth from the kitchen to wipe down the floor. As everything was cleaned up the two of them ran back to the living room with Caetia bumping into Apius when he stopped. Apius immediately knew what was going on,
"Sorry Dad." Caetia looked up at her brother as he spoke, "Sorry for the mess." Caetia made an oopsie face and looked at her Dad.
"I'm sorry Daddie."
"It's fine you two, just remember next time if you have food you place it on the ground safely and carefully so they don't come crashing down to the floor." Laius picked up the both of them and held them close to himself, Caetia giggling the meanwhile. Laius put his kids back down and sat down on the lounge with Caetia and Apius sitting next to each other to continue gaming. In his mind he was just preparing himself, giving them time. His head was so wired on about giving in, regardless of what Fidius said about before. He needed one or both of his kids, he just wanted to give them as much time before his desperation gets too much. As he sat quietly and calmly smiling along to his kids playing their video game, he knew that Apius was on to him. Apius turned around complaining about a fight and saw into his Dad's eyes a grieving desperation of a face, Laius slightly frowned out of disappointment that thankfully the both of them knew wasn't Apius's fault but Laius's. Apius still had to make sure however,
"Dad, are you alright?" Laius shook his head slightly.
"Daddy is feeling... bad right now. I think I need playtime with one of you later on." Suddenly Caetia jumped up, exclaiming and started jumping and climbing over Laius.

He must have stood at that door for a couple minutes when Apius got his attention that he was just standing there, so he closed the door walking back inside and sat on the lounge with his kids playing a game. Laius sat down and watched news show after news show, he felt this need to keep track of the current events across planets, systems, sectors and galaxies. There was a story of a life station, much like the one Laius and his kids live on, had violent takeover of upset rebels go from bad to catastrophic. Something about tempers flaring and mass killings were reported, of both the rebels and the security forces of the station. The next story talked about a really boring advertisement of 'a vacation down to a scenic planet with picture perfect locations great for the whole family'. They emphasized the word family over, and over, and over again. Laius was use to poorly directed and poorly targeted ads that reminded him of his late life, it wasn't new. He laid down on the lounge and looked up at the ceiling as more stories followed after, he stared blankly trying to zone his mind out. The entire time his kids were playing and watching shows he was holding himself back, his face was tired of faking a smile and holding back his emotions. Some of the children expressed great relief of being found while some mourned for their brothers and sisters that died there. Later on in the evening Laius, Caetia and Apius sat outside on the veranda they had. They looked out into the busy life of the station and at the stars in the sky, the smell of sausages and meat pies wafting in the air. "Api!" Caetia followed up with a piece of meat pie for her brother, Apius giggled back.
"Cae!" Apius did the same as his father, only he was given either a slightly less hot piece or he was prepared for the heat. Caetia giggled and giggled while sticking a sliced end part of a sausage, she loved how hard and crunchy it was at the end. Apius had his own pie in his hands that was not yet had a bite taken out of it, upon realizing he took a big bite and savoured the hard pastry with the meat flavouring it. Seeing his son change over the days and weeks in his temperament and reactions was hard, really hard to take in. It reminded him that he hoped and wished that his son would get use to it and actually like it, but that was a lie he told himself to feel better about what he does.
