It was loud and obnoxious, designed for people who loved sports and drinking and not really being able to hear each other. The cat would have been much happier at home, alone, just watching TV or reading a book by himself, but his fiance Nate had insisted. \"You've never met my friends once!\" Nate complained. \"I do so much for you, and you won't even do this for me?\"\n\nLeaving aside the fact that Danny could not actually discern what his chronically lazy fiance thought he did for him, there was a reason Danny had avoided meeting Nate's friends. As far as they knew, Nate was dating a girl. Nate insisted it was just easier this way. Well, easier for the fox maybe. The humiliation of pretending to be a girl wore as heavily on Danny's body as his bulging belly.\n\nNonetheless, it would be easier to give in and let Nate have his way, than risk upsetting the fox who could be a very angry drunk. \n\nSo at the bar, he put up with being paraded as an object of pride in front of Nate's equally conservative pals. He smiled politely as they discussed the cat's appearance as though he wasn't even there, and told him to \"be a good woman\" for their Nate. His eyes glazed over as he watched football on the screens opposite the bar. He nursed glasses of lemonade as his fiance got increasingly plastered and inappropriately gropey with the cat. All the while, he put up with the cacophony of cheers and screams and the blaring sound of multiple TVs all turned up to maximum volume. The fox roared with disdainful laughter when Danny batted his hand away from his thigh. He did not want to be touched after putting up with all the shit from a night like this. Not by Nate, anyway. \n\nWhen a handsome human walked up beside him and ordered a drink from the bar, a muscular arm brushing against the cat, Danny made eye contact with the man for a moment. The dark-skinned man smirked and winked at him. Perhaps he saw the longing look in Danny's eyes, or had witnessed how unimpressed the feline was with his partner. Either way, Danny found himself blushing intensely as he wished, for a moment, that he was the sidepiece of a proper man like him tonight. He would bet that a big, built, bulky man like that wouldn't lie about his partner's gender to pathetically please his friends. \n\nDanny averted his eyes, embarrassed. But the other man's eyes lingered on him patiently. He leant on his elbow, facing the cat, his pectoral muscles even larger than the cat's pregnancy-swollen tits. Danny's eyes rested upon the man's body, clad tightly in a too-small tank top, and felt his cheeks burn hotter. It was a warm night, and he could smell the man's scent wafting from his armpits. He angled his head slightly towards the human and breathed deeply. \n\nThey hadn't even said anything yet. They hadn't even done anything truly objectionable. But Nate noticed. He forced his drunk-floppy body between the pair, raised his head to look at the human, and opened his mouth. A lot of loud slurred words ran out of his sluggish lips. And at first, the human just laughed, rolled his eyes, and looked away, content to just ignore the fox while waiting for his drink. But that only made Nate angrier, and to get a reaction, he said something very, very stupid to the black human. \n\nAs the human shoved Nate outside and backed him up against a wall, Nate's friends ditched him. Danny should have ditched him too, but he still had a stubborn sense of commitment to his awful fiance. He didn't want anything bad to happen to the father of his child. He desperately tried to explain that Nate was just drunk and stupid and didn't mean it. But it was a waste of time. And even worse, it made it seem like Danny endorsed what Nate had said.\n\nIt wasn't really a fight, just a violent punishment. The human rained strong fists against the smaller fox, bloodying his nose and breaking his ribs. A cracking sound echoed down the alleyway when Nate's skull smacked back against the brick wall. His floppy head collided with the ground, and blood poured out of his ears, as he lay there silent and still. The only sounds were in the distance, and of the human huffing angrily, and Danny whimpering in fear. \n\nHis heart sank as he worried about his fiance. But he had no idea that his night was only just beginning.
