"description": "#Hypnovember #ProjectCognizant\nDAY 4: PENDULUM.\n\nStory by Drazin\n Oscar gulped as he looked at the building. For such an ostentatious event as the festivities going on at Cognizant, the office the doctor had established seemed positively quaint in comparison. He regarded the corner of a row of small shops - a few holes in the wall, sweet stands, and then a tiny practice that wouldn’t look out of place in a random medical parkway. The massive fox loomed behind him with his arms crossed protectively, while the lanky tiger gently nuzzled his face into the polar bear’s chest. “Are you still nervous, Master?” He let out a long and disappointed sigh as his hands shook a little bit.\n\n “Yeah. But like, not about this, it’s not the first time I’ve gone under. I did a bunch when I was new, and I try to do it occasionally. Just…” He looked back over his shoulder - an impromptu stage set up with another vulpine absolutely captivating an entire crowd. A pang of jealousy, and fear. He felt a pat on his shoulder from his own fox, and a quiet rumbling.\n\n “It’s okay, Master. We came here with you.” The striper giggled.\n\n “Being zonked out of our skulls is nice and all, but all the hypnotists on this island can’t compete with you for our affection. There’s no need to be intimidated!” Oscar nodded. He knew that they were right, of course, but feelings were tricky sometimes. He looked back up with renewed determination, nudging them off as he walked toward the door and gave a few firm but swift tap-tap knocks.\n\n “Well, hopefully my contact here will be of assistance on the emotional front of this one.” A few moments passed, the silence hanging on the air like a cold winter’s stale atmosphere. Eventually, a voice.\n\n “Come in.” Cassandra’s voice did little to dispel the impression. It too felt cold and clinical, like a polished countertop in some high-hazard lab, but her cadence had a certain brightness to it. Oscar could always tell she enjoyed life even through her icy disposition. He nodded to his two hanger-ons and opened the door, the two of them obediently filing through in front of him.\n\n “Ah, new faces. You can call me Doctor Bright.” She looked as Oscar remembered her, maybe with a little more wisdom and experience in the intervening years. The deep forest green of her scales made the impossibly pure white on her labcoat pop, undershirt matching the color of her amber eyes. “And hello to you, Mr. Rein.” Oscar chuckled. \n\n “Well, you haven’t changed at all, doctor.” She cracked a wry smile and tilted her head up slightly. “Wait, wait, don’t-”\n\n “Obviously you have, if you’re willing to go under for me.” He groaned as the fox and tiger both giggled. Well, he’d walked right into that. “But I don’t mind the observation. Why change up something that works brilliantly?” She turned around and walked to the far side of the office, tapping what looked like a random spot on the wall to reveal a sliding panel. She walked with confident strides, tail flicking back and forth, not even bothering to indicate what she wanted them to do. The boys were already following her implied request, tailing behind her into the hidden room. Oscar just shook his head. She always had a way of leading people into what she desired, and it probably didn’t help that those two were spongebrains.\n\n The dark hallway gave way to a room lit like twilight. No windows, no cracks, nothing that could let in even a shred of natural light from the outside; brightly colored candles burned instead, plumes of smoke rolling off them as they varied in their brightness. It smelled faintly of petrichor and moss, the sound of rushing water from a fountain hidden in some dark corner just barely audible. Dr. Bright, for her part, busied herself rummaging around on a shelf on the far side of the room. Oscar shuddered as he saw both of his boys sitting on the traditional therapist’s sofa, a spot for him in the middle. Wordlessly he placed himself there, looking at them. They seemed excited.\n\n “Ooh, it’s going to be interesting watching you go under, Master~” The striper whispered to him. “You deserve to feel good, though, so I won’t complain.” His vulpine companion nodded approvingly, Oscar rolling his eyes.\n\n “You two, I swear. A lot of subjects would be disturbed to see this.”\n\n “We just want Master to feel good, don’t we?” The fox’s deeper rumbling voice elicited a nod and wide grin of approval from the tiger, both looking expectantly forward as Cassandra’s tip-tap walk on the floor flooded the room. She didn’t bother saying anything as an amethyst on a silver chain slipped out from beneath her fingers. The way it disturbed the tufts of smoke on the air made for an interesting show as she began to swing it back and forth. The smoke would be displaced, then seemingly swirl around it, dancing like an elaborate set of flying snakes. The purple shimmer of the gemstone stood out brilliantly against the dim lighting, the occasional shine from the dancing of the flames lighting up the smoke around it for good measure. She smiled, wryly, looking straight at Oscar.\n\n “It’s good that you brought them with you. You all have a lot to learn from each other.” The bear glanced at his sides, and of course both of them were already letting their eyes lock on to the gem like a cat stalking particularly delectable prey. He looked back towards the lizard, ears pinning slightly.\n\n “I, uh, I didn’t know this was part of the plan-”\n\n “You would’ve been far too nervous if I went into too much detail regarding the specifics, regardless of what my plan was, yes?” Oscar turned the thought over in his mind for a few moments. He felt the fur on the back of his neck stand on end. Should he leave? Should he try to assert some of his own control here? He opened his mouth to ask another question, but she cut him off with the familiar sharp demeanor. “What I want to get at is the point that there isn’t as much division between the lot of you as you’d expect, Oscar. Look at them - happy to be in town, eager, bright-eyed, not comparing themselves to others but simply living for the moment. All qualities you want, yes?” He turned over the logic in his head, for just a moment, nodding. Oscar had no choice but to mentally acquiesce. “Precisely. So we’re going to be talking about how to do just that.”\n\n She brought the gemstone closer, their faces pressing into Oscar’s a touch as they too drew toward it. The bear made a conscious decision to indulge it, joining them, willingly keeping his eyes on the gem. “After all, you’ve clearly sculpted them into what you want. Everything that is inside them is inside you, and vice versa. The distinctions between you three are more illusory than one might suppose.” Oscar could feel his attention bisecting - one part of him focusing on her arguments, her plan of attack, wondering where she was going with this. The other had many distracting sensations to contend with - the feel and smell of swirling smoke, the amethyst glinting in front of him, the two guys pressing into each other and him besides. He took a deep breath, trying to stabilize himself as he felt the nerves rock his body for a moment.\n\n “So, we’re going to focus on that, and open our minds, so that our polar friend here can access the qualities that he’s lacking in this environment.”\n\n “Open our minds…” The two of them said, sleepily, the words now ringing in Oscar’s head. Hearing it in stereo like that made him feel a little woozy, especially as Cassandra looked at him expectantly. She even brought the gem to a stop, hanging in front of his head. “Open our minds.” They spoke again, firmer.\n\n The bear panted for a few moments, uncertain. “Open our minds?” \n\n “Yes, Master.” His boys responded in unison. His eyes shot open as he realized they’d take it as a command from him, and the smirk on Cassandra’s face revealed her thoughts on the matter. She again began to move the pendulum, swinging it in a circle above them, stirring up the smoke like a cyclone. He could feel it in the air, like a smoldering taste on his tongue, a charge. The amethyst - had it always been glowing with its own light? Something nipped in his mind.\n\n And then he felt it - a torrent of memories pouring in, memories that weren’t his. He could picture it vividly as he groaned from the sudden stimulation - he was a meaty fox with a bear cock deep in his ass, and then he was a slender tiger obediently rubbing fox and bear paws, and then he was both of them, happily nuzzling into Master, and then he felt himself dizzy as he slumped back into the chair. His jaw opened, slightly, a small strand of drool cresting over his muzzle. “Whuhhhh..?” Oscar thought on it long and hard, taking a chisel to the situation to unearth the truth underneath, and then he realized - \n\n Nothing, because the flood pushed out his own ideas too. He felt his own memories leaving containment in him, slipping out, but still accessible, floating and mingling with the others. His two toys slumped into him, drool covering their chests, his eyes widening as he looked up at Cassandra. “W-what are you doing, Dr. Bright?” He gasped. He’d not called her that, but the inclination had erupted from his mind like a blossoming flower. She giggled, her third eye opening involuntarily from the excitement. The amethyst’s glow got violent.\n\n “I’m doing exactly what you asked me to, just not in the way you perhaps imagined it. Need to word your wishes more carefully, as it were.” He opened his mouth to speak, but the overload of information pouring in made the words hard to find as he heard familiar voices - a demure whisper to comply, and an excited whisper of being one with his Master. He felt their minds drowning under the tidal wave of each other - theirs? He squinted. He tried to think of the word that meant him - Us. We. All of us. He shook his head. “Now, now, my scaredy bear.” The lizard slipped behind the trio of figures and brought her hand to cup the bear’s snout, a quiet but sharp gasp rolling out of him. “Isn’t this what you wanted? Just think of all the confidence you could get. The excitement, the shamelessness. All you have to do is open your mind, just like they did, and become one. The distinction between me and you, you and them, all things are illusory. You can break down the wall and discard your nerves into the cloud to be dispersed and mitigated. You can be free from your worries. All you have to do is…”\n\n “Open our mind.” The bear’s eyes widened and then dulled, glassy as he heard his fellows saying in tune with him. And then the hole opened and he felt it go entirely. “There is no I. There is only us. We have dispelled the illusion.” Bear, fox, and tiger voices all harmonized beautifully as the slurry of their names and distinctiveness washed itself away. The collective consciousness had manifested, their fur standing on end from the charge. The bear got to feel the brunt of the sensations last as he felt the lie of selfhood scour from his mind like a harsh scrub on a dirty wall, all scraped away like the detritus and garbage it was. In its place he felt a peculiar power flow into him, access to the most delectable things - eagerness, confidence, forwardness, qualities they craved in abundance. His own good traits flowed out into the collective as well - his quiet power, his understanding of people, the knowledge he’d accumulated working in classified positions. His body slumped and his eyes closed as he relaxed fully, the other two joining him in perfect synchronization as they tried to lower the strain on themselves from the event “Well, it’s lovely to meet whatever’s resulted here, now isn’t it? Do you all know what you are?”\n\n “We are…” At the exact same time now. There was no longer any bear, nor fox, nor tiger - there was simply an overarching intelligence wearing the shape of them, driving them around like puppets. “We are a group of minds whose barriers have been broken down and become one, yes? And you did this?”\n\n “I did indeed. “Self” is not as strong and sturdy of a concept as people tend to believe. Aspects of it can be compartmentalized, sure, or they can be shared. The real potential of the world lies in coming together, acknowledging the collective consciousness that underlies all things. I used my mesmeric talents to bring you to this enlightened state - I now stand before three hypnotists instead of only one, for example, and so goes the same with the rest of your component characteristics.” She sighed with a restrained delight, her tail thumping excitedly against the wooden desk behind her. “I’m pleased to see an entity like you is possible, and I’ve decided to dub you the Zeitgeistalt. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, and I hope to nurture you well.” The cloud of minds mumbled using its bodies for a few moments, then began to stretch before looking up to her. Their eyes were dull and glassy - obviously it hadn’t yet perfected the art of manipulating multiple apertures at once. “Try trading some qualities between them.” The three of them looked at each other and nodded, considering the suggestion.\n\n The tiger puffed his chest out, not that there was much there, and spoke with a wry grin and vacant confidence. “We’re going to be so awesome. Love it.”\n\n Next came the fox, who let out an airy, feminine giggle that had previously belonged to his cohort. “Eeeheheh… oh, that feels interesting, doesn’t it?” Finally they resumed their synchronization and looked back at the lizard.\n\n “We thank you, Dr. Bright. Now, we’d like t-” The three’s jaws dropped in tandem as she brought the pendulum back around in front of them. It was cute to see how perfectly their gazes synchronized as she rocked it back and forth, left to right, the newly-minted mind still plenty vulnerable to traditional hypnotic technique. She clicked her tongue a few times before continuing.\n\n “Now, now, my new friend, you’ve only just been brought into existence. You need some time to integrate your minds with each other, to become a proper collective. It won’t do to leap ahead too many stages in the process, yes? For now I must insist that you relax, just as your components were doing. Simply follow the pendulum, and listen, and I’ll tell you all I need to know.” They all nodded along in unison as she spoke, their eyes never leaving the amethyst for even a moment. One person might get distracted, but the force of three minds keeping each other in line meant that their gaze would certainly not be straying.\n\n “We… understand… Cassandra…” She frowned, just a touch, but it faded quickly. The bear was in there too, after all, and it confirmed something that she’d known from the start - integrating many people meant ideas might slip in that might be problematic in her Zeitgeistalt. Something to keep in mind.\n\n “Very good. And for right now, what you need to do more than anything is to sleep and dream, letting all of the memories and experiences of your components run together so that you may properly utilize them. You can feel the exhaustion of being a newly-minted creation catching up with you, the weight of so much mental work to do heavy in your mind like a great burden…” She smiled as she watched their postures slouch under the imagined weight, the diminutive tiger-aperture looking like it was going to get crushed under the weight of the other two if their positions adjusted too much more. “Until finally it gets so heavy that it becomes easier to simply.” She let the amethyst slip from her fingers, their eyes following as it fell down and down to the floor. “Drop.” With that their eyes slammed shut, their limp bodies sliding out of their chairs. The soothing slurry of sleeping thoughts washed over them like a wave on the shore, and the great work of integration in dreams began quietly, knitting all three people together into a glorious whole.\n______________________________________________________________________\n\nZeitgeistalt development log 1. November 4th.\n\nCognizant is subject rich. I opened a firm in Focault to offer hypnotherapy and grant a few hypnotists some opportunities to get a few cheap shortcuts with their subject of choice and they've been practically knocking my door down. This place seems to make hypnosis so much easier. Whether it's something at the Ayurveda entrance, or something that happened prior to me entering this place, I am not sure. I have no memory of how I arrived at Focault, which will be something I'll investigate later. \n\nSubjects A thru C were a godsend, a blend of different personality types both Dominant and Submissive that would suit Zeitgeistalt's sample group quite well. \n\nThough the synchronization is currently rather shallow. little more than a placebic training and nothing affecting their delta waves. \n\nI'll need a laboratory.\n\n______________________________________________________________________\n\nIf you're finding yourself in Cognizant but you're not feeling confident as a Master or feeling like it's difficult going under, look no further than Dr. Bright's office in Focault. She's a mental locksmith like no other. If you're tightly wound, she'll unspool you. If you're far too timid to trance, she'll find the inner beast to help you take the lead. \n\nJust sign a few waivers and she'll take good care of you. \n\nArtwork by Goatuna, who pumped this out so quickly it made my head spin.\n\n\nStory by Drazin. If you are looking for hypnosis stories, not only are their some of the most fun I've read, but they're also available for commission. \n\nI highly recommend both the artist and the writer for all your hypnosis needs. \n\nVOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE MASTERMIND",

He nodded to his two hanger-ons and opened the door, the two of them obediently filing through in front of him.

“Ah, new faces.

“Well, you haven’t changed at all, doctor.” She cracked a wry smile and tilted her head up slightly. “Wait, wait, don’t-”

“Obviously you have, if you’re willing to go under for me.” He groaned as the fox and tiger both giggled. She always had a way of leading people into what she desired, and it probably didn’t help that those two were spongebrains.

The dark hallway gave way to a room lit like twilight. They seemed excited.

“Ooh, it’s going to be interesting watching you go under, Master~” The striper whispered to him. “You deserve to feel good, though, so I won’t complain.” His vulpine companion nodded approvingly, Oscar rolling his eyes.

“You two, I swear. A lot of subjects would be disturbed to see this.”

“We just want Master to feel good, don’t we?” The fox’s deeper rumbling voice elicited a nod and wide grin of approval from the tiger, both looking expectantly forward as Cassandra’s tip-tap walk on the floor flooded the room. She smiled, wryly, looking straight at Oscar.

“It’s good that you brought them with you. You all have a lot to learn from each other.” The bear glanced at his sides, and of course both of them were already letting their eyes lock on to the gem like a cat stalking particularly delectable prey. He looked back towards the lizard, ears pinning slightly.

“I, uh, I didn’t know this was part of the plan-”

“You would’ve been far too nervous if I went into too much detail regarding the specifics, regardless of what my plan was, yes?” Oscar turned the thought over in his mind for a few moments. “Precisely. So we’re going to be talking about how to do just that.”

She brought the gemstone closer, their faces pressing into Oscar’s a touch as they too drew toward it. He took a deep breath, trying to stabilize himself as he felt the nerves rock his body for a moment.

“So, we’re going to focus on that, and open our minds, so that our polar friend here can access the qualities that he’s lacking in this environment.”

“Open our minds…” The two of them said, sleepily, the words now ringing in Oscar’s head. Hearing it in stereo like that made him feel a little woozy, especially as Cassandra looked at him expectantly. She even brought the gem to a stop, hanging in front of his head. “Open our minds.” They spoke again, firmer.

The bear panted for a few moments, uncertain. “Open our minds?”

“Yes, Master.” His boys responded in unison. Something nipped in his mind.

And then he felt it - a torrent of memories pouring in, memories that weren’t his. “Whuhhhh..?” Oscar thought on it long and hard, taking a chisel to the situation to unearth the truth underneath, and then he realized -

Nothing, because the flood pushed out his own ideas too. The amethyst’s glow got violent.

“I’m doing exactly what you asked me to, just not in the way you perhaps imagined it. All you have to do is…”

“Open our mind.” The bear’s eyes widened and then dulled, glassy as he heard his fellows saying in tune with him. Do you all know what you are?”

“We are…” At the exact same time now. There was no longer any bear, nor fox, nor tiger - there was simply an overarching intelligence wearing the shape of them, driving them around like puppets. “We are a group of minds whose barriers have been broken down and become one, yes? And you did this?”

“I did indeed. “Try trading some qualities between them.” The three of them looked at each other and nodded, considering the suggestion.

The tiger puffed his chest out, not that there was much there, and spoke with a wry grin and vacant confidence. “We’re going to be so awesome. Love it.”

Next came the fox, who let out an airy, feminine giggle that had previously belonged to his cohort. “Eeeheheh… oh, that feels interesting, doesn’t it?” Finally they resumed their synchronization and looked back at the lizard.

“We thank you, Dr. She clicked her tongue a few times before continuing.

“Now, now, my new friend, you’ve only just been brought into existence. One person might get distracted, but the force of three minds keeping each other in line meant that their gaze would certainly not be straying.

“We… understand… Cassandra…” She frowned, just a touch, but it faded quickly. The bear was in there too, after all, and it confirmed something that she’d known from the start - integrating many people meant ideas might slip in that might be problematic in her Zeitgeistalt. Something to keep in mind.

“Very good. The soothing slurry of sleeping thoughts washed over them like a wave on the shore, and the great work of integration in dreams began quietly, knitting all three people together into a glorious whole.
______________________________________________________________________

Zeitgeistalt development log 1. November 4th.

Cognizant is subject rich.

Subjects A thru C were a godsend, a blend of different personality types both Dominant and Submissive that would suit Zeitgeistalt's sample group quite well.

Though the synchronization is currently rather shallow. little more than a placebic training and nothing affecting their delta waves.

I'll need a laboratory.

______________________________________________________________________

If you're finding yourself in Cognizant but you're not feeling confident as a Master or feeling like it's difficult going under, look no further than Dr. Bright's office in Focault. She's a mental locksmith like no other. If you're tightly wound, she'll unspool you. If you're far too timid to trance, she'll find the inner beast to help you take the lead.

Just sign a few waivers and she'll take good care of you.

Artwork by Goatuna, who pumped this out so quickly it made my head spin.

Story by Drazin.
