Well... He knew the treasure was here. He gave up on that silly roundabout business of finding EXACTLY where it was in the temple. But with a treasure of that description, he'd have to run into it eventually. Such thoughts crowded his mind and before long he walked into a long shadowy hallway. His ears perked up as he scavenged the sound of slithering off in the distance and his heart stopped as he shot a glance for a place to hide. Only a small narrow passage to his left availed it's meager offering of escape. Choiceless, he slipped over, sliding his naked rump up against the wall as he sucked on his lip, awaiting for the sound to pass. He danced on his foot paws as the noise almost lingered, less moving and more waiting. No. Searching.
Dante took another step to the left. A wrong step.
In an instant, the once solid footing gave way and Dante went cross-eyed as he slipped into the darkness below with a loud trilling scream as he plummeted to certain doom. Only to bounce.
Dante blinked, quite surprised at his own survival, but still processing where he was or what he had stumbled upon. As his eyes grew wide, however, what he had stumbled upon became apparent, glistening gold dancing in his pupils. Enough to have readily broken his fall! To think that they'd hide the treasure in a trap! How brilliant... Now he only had to get out of these vines. He wiggled back and forth struggling to get loose, taking little thought of the difficulties of bringing huge quantities of treasure from the ruins out while butt naked, nor understanding exactly HOW to get out. But these were the lesser concerns that should have take grasp of his mind. But that is exactly as the cruel creators of this final trap intended.
Some things are truly traps after all. And the worst, for the most persistent of pandas, taunt their enemy with success before doing them in. So it was that as Dante grunted and wiggled, that another thing wiggled in the darkness - before shooting out and latching round his ankle. Dante paused. Surprised as the taught slippery leather round his leg. It didn't feel quite like a vine, but he was afraid to look up and confirm his apprehensions. Not that it mattered, the creature was inclined to confirm them for him as more tentacles shot out of the darkness take hold of him and loosing him from his bounds.
Under his weight he dropped down again but realized he was only going up. Waving his arms frantically for something to grab onto, Dante grasped a single gold coin before sliding out of reach of his treasure, only to become one for the creature that ruled these halls instead. As the room fell to darkness, a sound whizzed from the darkness above, and the singular coin splashed back into piles from which it came.
