Lucky rested soundly in the shade of his tree, one of the few places to avoid the heat of the relentless sun of the midday.
A rustling in the foliage made his ears twitch and his eye open. Soon, he saw a form burst through the foliage and stand before him, shaking off the stray leaves and twigs that clung to her fur.
“Ugh, woo, I think I’m getting the hang of it!” Catty said rather happily. “It’s like... well, the paths LOOK like they change, but it’s all the same as long as you know what you’re doing and willing to get the little scrapes and such.” she said with a giggle. Lucky stood up and gave her a rather welcome hug around her neck.
“I knew you could do it, and it just takes a bit of time to get to know it.” he said as he felt one of her paws wrap around his side, returning the affectionate hug before they both broke the hug. “How was your last few days at the guild? I heard a bit of a ruckus over the last few days.” Lucky said.
“Well, there was this Shinx who ran away from home and every time we almost caught her to bring her home, she’d take off again by using flash and blinding us. By the time we finally cornered her, she was in danger of a very angry Steelix, who’s cave we were running around in.” she said as the two of them withdrew into the shade of the tree and reclined against the trunk.
“Goodness, how’d that play out?” Lucky asked as he kept one arm around her back, keeping her close despite the heat.
“Well, My team and I had to try and calm the titan down, he was furious that a bunch of folks were making so much noise while he was trying to sleep, but after our team battled him, a lucky rock falling from the ceiling hit him in the head and made him dizzy. When that happened, we grabbed the Shinx and quickly escaped. She was glad to be back home after that and learned an important lesson that, if you are unhappy with being punished, chances are it was for a good reason to keep you safe.” She said, rubbing her head.
“Wow... I’m just glad you’re okay. I don’t know what I’d do without you...” Lucky said softly as he pressed his snout into her furry neck. She in turn pressed her face against his for a tender moment before they slowly brought their lips together for a quiet kiss.
A sensitive kiss... One only shared by true lovers.
The sensation made both of them feel as if they were laying on a cloud of all enveloping warmth in the heart, before the kiss slowly ended and the two looked at each other.
Catty gently pawed his scarred face.
“Your eye, the brown... it’s like the most fertile of the earth... I wish I could have seen this eye... Seen how the blue shined.” she said as her voice wavered for a moment. Lucky grasped her paw, holding it to his face.
“Better to have lost my eye and met you, then to have never lost the eye and never met you. You coming into my life was the most wonderful thing I ever experienced... Even if it was a little scary...” he said as a smile crossed his face. Catty smiled back and giggled.
“That reminds me, do you know what day it is?” she asked him. Lucky thought for a moment before both of them spoke.
“It’s the day we first met!” they both said happily.
“I’m so glad you remembered.” Catty said. “I made sure to get this day away from the guild, along with the following week, so we have at least eight days to spend together to celebrate.” she said with a smile on her face.
“Oh I am SO happy!” he said as he hugged her again. “I’ve missed you so terribly while you’re away... I mean... it’s fun to... er... play... with some of the ones I rescue, but it doesn’t feel the same as when I’m with you...” he said bashfully. Catty tapped his nose.
“Silly, you know I let you do that to make you feel more at ease with the idea and as a sort of... companion to keep you entertained while I’m away. After all... It’s not love, it’s more like lust in that spot.” she said as she gently pawed the side of his face again. “And love is so much more potent.” she said as she drew him into another kiss. She could feel her body tingling as her desire for him began to fire up again, but it was cut short as their ears twitched at the sound of something heavy crashing through the trees and landing somewhere in the forest.
Both of them broke the kiss and let out a small disappointed sigh before Lucky smiled.
“Don’t worry, regardless of who or what this one is, I’ll escort them out of the forest after they are patched up so we can have our time together.” he said as he kissed her cheek before climbing up the tree and vanishing into the foliage. She sighed and collapsed onto the ground.
“It figures something like this would happen... But at least he’ll make it quick this time. I hope whoever that was isn’t too busted up.”

It didn’t take Lucky long to find the area of forest where the heavy object broke through, the broken tree branches were a clear cut path, but the forest showed off one of the reasons getting lost was so easy as the trees seemed to play in reverse, mending themselves and picking themselves up from the ground, returning to their original untouched form.
Lucky scouted the are a bit more before he spied the one who fell, a Charizard who slowly stood, brushing himself off, his back marred with a rather bad mark that almost looked to be a burn mark, and his left wing was torn, the delicate membrane cut and flapping as a few drops of blood spilled from it to be greedily swallowed up by the earth. Lucky normally waited to see if the one he would rescue was of good intentions, but this one was pretty badly hurt and he had some long awaited romantic time waiting for him the sooner he took care of this newcomer.
“Hey, don’t move, I’ll help you in a minute!” Lucky shouted as he clambered through the trees, making a lot of noise to let the Charizard know where he was. The Charizard was actually only mumbling to himself, rather angrily, before Lucky interrupted him. He turned with a defensive posture, but dropped it as Lucky landed and came into view. “Hi, my name is Lucky.” he introduced. “You look pretty beat up, here, follow me, I can get you patched up and escort you out of the forest.” The Charizard gave him a wary look before a flap of his wing and a sting made him remember how bad a condition he was in.
“All right...” he said in a rather deep voice. “I could use the assistance at the moment.” Lucky nodded and wasted no time in escorting him through the brush lines towards his tree in the central area of the forest.
Lucky soon broke through the surrounding foliage with the Charizard in tow, stepping into the clearing of his tree home.
“Now, wait right here, I’ll be back with some ointment to help fix that wing.” he said as he dove under the tarp that covered the opening to his tree home, finding Catty inside, resting on the bed. Lucky paused to look at her and gently rubbed her napping head. “Too warm to be outside... I know the feeling...” he said before he kissed her forehead and dug into his combination of salvaged human medical supplies and herbal created ones before gathering a few in his hands and walking back outside to see the Charizard sitting on the grass, mumbling to himself in a full conversation. Lucky’s instincts told him he should have been more wary of this newcomer, but he was in a hurry to get this newcomer patched up and on his way. He wandered up to the Charizard and grabbed a few of the leaves he had, reaching into a bowl he had of a paste and smeared it onto one leaf before spraying it with a potion, then grasping the torn wing and placing the leaf on the torn halves, sticking them together and making the Charizard jump.
“Don’t worry, the paste has a numbing effect and the potion will help it mend faster.” he said as he repeated the process several more times until he had essentially “stitched” the torn wing back together. “There... Now let it set and you should be all better by the time the leaves fall off.” he said, smiling.
“Well, you’re certainly helpful...” the Charizard said. “Now, if only I had something to eat.” he said, a tinge of anger in his voice. Lucky gave him a questioning look before he turned away and headed towards his tree.
“Well, I have some food in my tree you can have to get you feeling better, but after that, I should get you on your way by getting you out of the forest. Since you can’t fly, you’ll need to walk out and you’ll never find your way out without knowing how this forest works.” Lucky said before he saw the tarp of his tree move and Catty came walking out, giving a small yawn before smiling at him.
Lucky had time to smile at her and opened his mouth to speak before a stream of fire raced past him and slammed into Catty, rolling her along the ground as the fire tore into the brush behind her. Lucky looked at her in shock before turning to see the Charizard with a smile on his face.
“Well, you’ve been a generous host and this is certainly a nice meal.” the Charizard said, licking his lips and rubbing his belly as he looked at Catty, who tried to shake the cobwebs from her head from the surprise attack.
“What?! You... NO!” Lucky shouted, putting himself between Catty and the Charizard, only to be met with a harsh punch to his face, forcing him to collapse to his side and his world to spin.
“Shut up, you’re getting on my nerves.” he said as he swung his tail, smashing the dazed Catty in the face, a crack coming as he smashed her nose and further scorched her fur, making her tumble into the ground again. “That if that bitchy Salamance didn’t catch me trying to steal her egg and shoot me down over this forest, maybe I wouldn’t be here and hungry.” he said as he approached Catty and picked her up.
“S-stop.. Don’t... hurt her.” Lucky grunted out as his world still shook and he tried to get up. He got to all fours and his vision cleared long enough for him to see the Charizard sink his teeth into Catty’s right foreleg, making her shriek in pain.
At that moment, Lucky’s world seemed to freeze, locked in the moment of horror as he saw Catty moments from being torn apart. Flashes of images flowed through his mind, his past showing how she brought life to his existence, happiness where there was only sorrow, then his mind turned to the future, a future without her because of a mistake of his, because of another who’s greed and cruelty drove his actions.
The world started to move again and Lucky bellowed, not any bellow, but a feral horrible sound that would only be heard from a furious beast. The Charizard let go of Catty and rolled his eyes, dropping her to the ground before turning to Lucky.
“You’re getting really fucking irritating, you know that?” he said. “I think I’ll shut you up fir-” The Charizard froze, locked in place and unable to move. Catty got a surge of adrenaline and forced herself to her feet, despite the pain and opened her eyes. She couldn’t fathom the creep attacking Lucky, who didn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, but when she opened her eyes, she suddenly felt dread in her heart.
The Charizard’s head was seemingly encased in a sort of black void bubble as Lucky continued to shriek. Catty witnessed Lucky’s eye shifting in color, changing from the earthly brown into a florescent blue, shining like a glow in pure darkness, but the next part made her blood chill as his sealed shut eyelid began to tear it’s self open, crimson tears rolling down his face as the bloody empty socket opened, but then an eye of blackness swirled and filled the socket, not stopping the blood flow. Lucky’s muzzle showed his teeth, sharp and gleaming as he snarled, his eyes looking at the Charizard.
The bubble around the Charizard’s head “popped” and the Charizard stumbled backwards, falling on his rear, his eyes wide in total terror.
“NO! NO! NO MORE! MAKE IT STOP! GET AWAY FROM ME!” he shrieked, gripped by nothing but terror at something only he could see, his red eyes stained with a blackness. Every snarl and yell from Lucky made the Charizard shriek and swipe at something in his grip of terror.
Lucky then moved and what happened next made the remaining color in Catty’s face fade.
Lucky lunged at the Charizard, turning his shrieks into gurgles as he sunk his claws into the Charizard’s neck. He had time to reach up at Lucky before there was a sick crunch and the sound of ripping of flesh as Lucky wrenched with strength Catty had never witnessed as he tore the Charizard’s head off, as if it was a tree stump and he ripped it from the ground, the fleshy strands of remaining muscle and tendons snapping as the body collapsed to the ground.
Lucky then jumped off the body and slammed the head on the ground, watching it soak in a pool of it’s own blood as he placed his hands on it, still growling. Catty looked at Lucky, horror on her face as she realized that this was no longer the sweetheart she met. This was not the kind creature who would save others.
This was no longer Lucky.
As she thought that, Lucky’s eyes turned to look at her and he spun in place, growling at her. Thoughts raced through her head; she wanted to run, she wanted to try to fight back, but the feeling that overtook her the most was the urge to cry.
She knew that if he wanted to kill her, she couldn’t fight back, she couldn’t escape. Even in her best form, he’d find her in the forest before she could get out of it. She didn’t even know what he did to turn the Charizard into a babbling coward before he killed him.
She hung her head a moment before she did her best to look him in his eyes; the blue as vibrant as a rare jewel, the black as dark as any void, and the sight coaxed the tears to start pouring down her face. She limped slowly towards him.
If he was going to kill her, she’d rather he get it over with. She’d rather die facing him, being close to him.
However, as she got closer, Lucky’s snarl slowly closed and his dark eye slowly closed, the lid re-sealing as his blue eye color faded back to the earthly brown and he blinked once before he sniffed and tears of sadness started to flow out of his eye.
He fell to his knees and shuddered before Catty hobbled up to him and pressed her face against his blood soaked form. He wasted no time in hugging her tightly. Catty ignored the pain and simply whimpered into the embrace, pressing herself to him.
“What... What have I done?” he asked, knowing exactly what he had done, every image a vivid memory forever etched into his mind.
“You saved me... That‘s what you did...” Catty said though her own tears.
