Not a single other sound disrupts the music of the night-time chorus. Darkness is all over, covering every inch of land under its regime. In a small clearing, off the path and surrounded by bushes, a small fire crackles and dances among the pile of wood below it. Haya’s arm extends out with a stick, moving some of the fuel to help keep the flames alive. Berc sits across from her, staring at the rabbit as she continues to prod the firewood. Both have just finished dinner as scraps of meat sit in the grass by the fire.\n“You seem troubled, Haya,” says Berc, breaking the silence. “Are you okay?”\n“Why do you care?” Haya responds, continuing to work on the fire. “Why must you know about me?”\n“I’m just concerned. You haven’t said anything after our encounter with those rhinos… Is that on your mind still?” \nHaya looks up at him. “What business do you have intruding mine? It doesn’t involve you.” She turns back to the fire. “You just let me worry about my own problems, will you, Berc?”\n“That faction… They did something to you, didn’t they…? What happened…?”\n“Must you know everything? I said don’t think about it. You shouldn’t worry about me, anyway.”\n“But I do… because you’re my friend… aren’t you?” Haya ceases poking and looks back up at the kobold. “Don’t you trust me?”\n“That’s debatable,” she tells him. “Just be lucky I let you tag along.”\n“You know, if it weren’t for me, those soldiers would’ve arrested you already.”\n“What have you done to help that situation? Exactly how did you help?”\n“I had the gold. The gold you took and used as a means to escape.”\n“I still could’ve handled it on my own. I can manage without you.”\n“Maybe so, but not me… I was lucky to run into you and become your companion…”\nHaya lets out a sigh. “Listen, I understand you want to stay with me, but if we’re going to continue to be travelling mutually, we need to discuss a couple of things.
