"writing": "The spring breeze gusts by the cherry blossoms, knocking their beautiful, pink flower petals and leaves off the branches, causing them to parachute downward lightly, settling onto the calm waters of the lake below. As the foliage touch the surface, ripples form along the top of the water. The pink petals and leaves float around the reflection of the pink rabbit, who kneels to the liquid. A conical hat on her head, a light green, heart-shaped top on her chest, dark green pads on her knees and shoulders, and a belt with a cloth covers anything below her waist are her apparel. Beside her hip is a holster, which rests her katana. Behind her, peeking around another cherry blossom further from the lake, the maroon kobold stalks her, still donning the sunset cloak and scarf. The lizard-like creature prowls up to the rabbit, slowly and stealthily, raising arms up as if in preparation to strike. \nThe pink rabbit stands up, looking outward across the lake as the kobold’s three feet from her. “Don’t even think about it, Berc.” \nThe kobold freezes, then relaxes his posture. He then walks to her companion’s side to where she can see him. “Aw man, how’d you know I was right there, Haya?”\n“I sense everything. My master has taught me well.”\n“He sure didn’t teach you to have fun.”\nHaya turns and starts heading away from the lake. “Reality is not all about fun and games, Berc; War, famine, violence, plague, disaster, and death are common in this world, and all you wish to do is continue your childish pranks.”\nBerc picks up his pace to catch up to her. “I agree; life’s too short. But you’ve got to learn to smile and laugh a little, Haya. You know, have some fun while there’s time. That’s how you keep a smile and enrich yourself.”\n“Not with me, it’s not. It was never fun and laughter when I was growing up.”\n“It’s not too good when you’re dark all the time, you know.” Haya doesn’t respond to him after that. The trip into a town becomes awkward with the silence. Cobblestone roads replace dirt paths and buildings line the infrastructure. Some structures are spaced apart to allow room for each other. “Neat little town,” the kobold starts. “What are we doing here?”\n“I’m looking to get my paws dirty, of course,” responds Haya. Berc turns to her and asks what she means. “Need to make some quick coin. It’ll also be good to get some experience and reputation.”\n“Where would we even start? You think the local tavern’s hiring or something?”\n“Tavern work? No, I’m talking about merc work; anything that has me take on outlaws or battle some champion!” She discerns the wooden board in the town square. Wandering over with her companion, the rabbit notices a wanted poster plastered with other notices. “And it looks like we’re in luck.”\nBerc reads the poster pasted to the board. “’Wanted: Tricky Vick. Dangerous criminal wanted for thievery and abduction of young children. Last seen near Valley of the Veins. Reward for whoever captures alive.’” He turns to the pink hare. “Haya, are you sure about this?”\n“Relax, Berc. I can handle anything that comes my way.”\n“I’m relaxed. This thief doesn’t seem that serious. I mean, look at his picture. So goofy looking.”\n“Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean he’s dangerous.” She rips the wanted picture off of the board. “Come, Berc. We’ve got work to do.”\nBerc lets out a sigh. “He better be easy like the picture and info suggests.”\n\n*** \n\nThe Valley of the Veins: A large, shallow ravine with many ore deposits and steep rock formations with many cracks in the surfaces that give it its name. Many from the nearby towns have attempted extracting the beautiful minerals that litter this fine crevasse, only to be scared away by unforeseen forces. \nThe two travelers arrive at the location, near the edge of the cliff. The steep caverns don’t intimidate them in the slightest, nor does the glitter of the precious metals tempt them.\n“Quite deep,” comments Berc. “Wouldn’t want to fall in that…”\n“What’s the matter, Berc?” Haya begins. “I thought you liked shiny things and caves.”\nThe kobold pivots to her quickly. “That’s stereotypical… Just because I’m a kobold, doesn’t mean I’m a cave dweller and take gold and metal.”\n“You did grow up in a cave and you like shiny things, don’t you?”\nBerc sighs. “Dang it! You know me too well…”\n“You told me all of that. Which is why I never reveal anything about myself.”\n“Huh…” Berc turns his attention back to the ravine. “Now, if I were a thief and abductor, where would I be?”\n“Hiding in a cave dug out and hidden near an ore vein to avoid detection,” says Haya.\nBerc faces her again. “How do you know?” \nHaya starts down a level, leading the kobold to a gold ore vein. Next to it, a wooden door reveals itself. “You were saying?” \nHe looks to the door. “Hm, doesn’t seem bolted shut. After all, it’s just a bamboo blocking the way.”\n“Then allow me.” She steps back a couple of feet, then charges, jumps in the air, and kicks down the bamboo wedge. “Huh, wasn’t a challenge at all. Perhaps this thief we’re dealing with isn’t so bright.” \nBerc fabricates a torch from materials collected and lights it by striking it against the cave wall. The small fire burns faintly on the long stick, yet is bright enough to illuminate the way. “Shall we?” The two adventurers head into a cave system. After traveling nearly half a mile in, they come across another wooden door. This time, it has a lock to prevent the two animals from traveling deeper. “I think I can handle this.” He gives the rabbit the torch and pulls out two small tools from his scarf. Kneeling by the door, he inserts the iron pick and careful works his way into the lock. After twenty seconds of fiddling, he turns the pick. With a “click” sound, the door becomes unlocked. “That should do it.” Berc puts his tools away and opens the door. Upon entry, the team become wide-eyed and open-mouthed at their findings: In a wide-open section of tunnel, a group of children in rags use pickaxes to chip away at the cave’s walls, which are decorated with ore veins. All cry in pain and agony, begging to stop. \nA large ape emerges from the darkness and commands them to keep working. The tone of voice reveals the big animal to be male in gender. He takes notice of the two entries before him. “Huh?! Who are you two?!”\n“Tricky Vick!” shouts Haya, pointing to the ape. “Your days of robbing and kidnapping are over! We’re here to bring you in!”\n“Over my dead body!” The ape pulls out his katana and charges for the bunny. Haya retaliates by taking out her weapon and blocking his attack. Berc cowers by one of the stalagmites of the cave and watches as the two animals try to outwit each other by sword. Haya dodges some attacks and bounces off walls to strike with speed. Vick, struggling to block her, nearly stumbles to the ground. The children back away and avoid the two as to not be caught in the crossfire. Haya bounces once more and prepares to strike, but the ape swings quickly and knocks the rabbit off balance, causing her to land on the cave ground. Vick points his katana blade’s end toward the pink bunny’s head. “You fight well, Rabbit. Such a shame I must end a cute, graceful warrior like you.”\nHaya’s eyebrows dip down. “Don’t ever call me cute!” She blocks his strike just in time and repels his sword away from her. The rabbit looks up and gets an idea. She blocks another attempted attack before throwing her katana. \n“Ha!” calls the ape. “What was the purpose of that? You missed, Rabbit.”\n“Did I?” Haya sneers. Vick looks up above, but it’s too late: The ceiling caves in and collapses on top of him, burying him in a pile or rock and ore. Once the rabbit stands, she’s awarded with applause from the children. Berc comes to join her by her side as she walks up to the trapped ape, takes back her katana, and points it at the primate. “You fight well, but not well enough.”\n“Curses! Beaten by a stupid bunny girl.”\n“Haya,” Berc begins. “That was amazing! But, how are we going to bring him back to town alive?”\n“Oh, don’t you worry,” she says to him with a smile. “I know a way.”\n\n*** \n\nLeaving the Valley of the Veins, Tricky Vick, tied up and bound by rope, rolls down to town by the children, who also taunt and bully him in retaliation. Haya and Berc follow behind to ensure he doesn’t break loose. \n“This is so funny,” Berc comments. “Who would’ve thought a bunch of kids imprisoned by an ape be rolling him down into town?”\n“Guess kids are cruel,” remarks Haya. “What matters most right now is we have our bounty, and we’re going to get a big reward from him.”\n“Our reputation will be huge, too,” the kobold adds. “Not only did we capture a wanted criminal, we saved many families’ children.”\n“’We?’” Haya narrows one eye as he looks at him. “What do you mean by ‘we?’”\n“I helped, too.”\n“With what? You were cowering behind some rocks. How is that helping?”\n“I made a torch and got the locked door open, right?”\n“If you say so, Berc.”\n",
