and his friends, and the boys just got home in time as the heat from the food still radiates off the surfaces. As the kids sit down with their friends, they’re asked about their day with the girls by Melissa and Zach, to which they brush off with “All right.” \nJust as the kids begin scooping portions of chicken and rice onto their plates, the hellish creature pops out from behind Firework’s head upon smelling the food. “Wow!” Igor utters. “That sure smells good!” The foxes, rabbit, and fluffball flinch and become startled with the sight of this surprise guest of theirs. \nFirework pauses and realizes the moment. “Oh, this Firework and Echo new friend, Igor. Firework and Echo found Igor in alley.”\n“Are you two nuts?!” Amina spurts. “You brought home a demon?!”\nIgor points in the air and corrects her. “Technically, I’m an imp. I don’t mind being called a ‘demon,’ though.”\n“Was alone,” states the dragon. “Igor banned from home. Firework and Echo understand Igor…”\n“Hey listen,” Igor responds. “It was both you and the tin can’s idea to bring me in. I was doing fine out on my own.”\n“Yeah,” Echo comments, grey with a displeasured look. “Because lying inside trashcans, chewing on scraps, and trying to suck the juice from empty beer bottles is healthy living.”\nMelissa takes a step toward the table and regains her spot before seeing Igor. “Echo, Firework, I don’t know if it’s good to have a demon, or imp, around.”\n“Can’t Firework and Echo keep Igor?” begs Firework, flashing a beggar’s look with the small frown and widened pupils at her. “Please?” Melissa and Amina turn to Zach for his decision. \nThe orange fox’s attention gets grabbed with the sound of his name. He turns to the girls “Huh…? Um…” Zach faces the kids. “Well, as long as you two take care of him and keep him out of trouble, he can stay around here.”\n“You have no need to worry, Foxy Boy,” Igor tells him, landing onto the table in front of the dragon. “I’ll try not to be any trouble to you, and I can handle myself pretty well.” He takes a spot nearest the children as everyone starts eating.\nMelissa clears her throat. “Uh, so, Igor, where do you come from?”\n“My kind dwells underground,” he says. “In that fiery, magma-filled cavern you call the Netherworld. Pretty sick place, before my buddies decided to give me the boot.”\n“How did you get kicked out?” Amina asks.\n“They all thought I was too rowdy and annoying. Instead of just telling me to chill or even say it to my face, they open up a portal, spit me out into the overworld, and seal it shut, leaving me out on my own. And so, here I am…”\n“Oh… Well, we all have that same experience; abused, bullied, ignored, abandoned… It’s because everyone views us differently.” Around the room, heads are tilted downward and frowns show the pain of the past. “But then, we found each other and sought to prosper here in Furton with new lives.”\n“So, you folks are still new to this concrete jungle?” asks Igor. “Looks like I’ve entered the newbies club… You three are Zach, Melissa, and Amina, right?” They nod. “Metal man and grey fluffy told me their names. I can tell fly boy here is Zach. So, which one of you pretty ladies are which?” Melissa points out who she is, as does Amina. “I must say, you two are the pretties chicks I’ve ever met.” Cotton squeaks with glee as he jumps up and lands on the table. Igor looks at him, unamused. “What’s this cotton ball doing here?”\n“That Cotton,” Firework tells him. “Firework and Echo’s pet. He real friendly.” The fluffball purrs and nestles himself up against the demon. \n“Yes… Too friendly…” Igor pushes the fluffball away a couple of feet. “Keep your distance, will you? I’d rather not have your cloudiness in my food.” \nMelissa then turns to Zach. “Oh, Zach. How goes the training? Is Ralph continuing to make you feel uncomfortable?”\n“Well,” Zach begins. “Today wasn’t as bad as the last couple of days; he and I were practicing with Leon. We were working together on what we would do in a tough rescue situation. For once, I felt like he wasn’t pushing himself on me. Tomorrow, we start the week with combat training.”\n“It sure takes a long time to train you up,” Echo says. “I never knew the Furton Task Force had a lengthy process.”\n“It’s only been the first week,” Zach explains. “And it takes some getting used to; with the task force’s way of training and whatnot. A lot to learn and take in…” \n“You’ll be fine.” Melissa gives him a smile. “You’ve done things like this before, and once you’re done, it’ll come naturally.” Her smile then disappears. “Of course, I hope the same applies to me at Pawbucks tomorrow; we have a new person coming in for training and the boss has assigned me to train her.”\n“What are you worried about?” asks Amina.\n“I’m afraid of messing up and looking like a fool…”\n“Aren’t you at that place for a while?” Melissa nods to her. “You have natural skill with working there. You shouldn’t feel discouraged when you’ve got time and experience on your paws.” Echo and Firework smile, agreeing with the red fox.\nMelissa’s smile reappears. “Yeah, you’re right.”\n“Uh,” Igor interrupts. “What is this ‘Pawbucks’ you speak of?”\n“It’s a coffee shop,” the rabbit explains. “I’m a barista there.”\n“Coffee huh? Sounds interesting. I’d like to accompany you to this ‘Pawbucks’ and see for myself.”\n“No can do. Have enough stress on my paws; thinking of the new trainee and such… I don’t need to be babysitting an imp.”\n“I can look after myself, you know. I’m not the type to sit in a high chair and wear a bib that probably says ‘Mama’s Little Man.’” Amina tries to hold back her laugh. “Besides, I’m not accompanying you to help.
