Melissa hangs around them, continuously wiping the tables around them, pretending to be super busy. She listens as the two talk to each other about their day at the headquarters. \nThe rabbit ceases her cleaning and turns to the friends. “Sounds like you two had a half-boring, half-fun day. What did Oliver say when you both finished?”\n“He said he would let us know as soon as he was done evaluating the tests,” says Zach. “I have to tell you, I’m a bit nervous, Melissa.”\n“Don’t be.” She places her paw on the fox’s shoulder. “I’m sure you did fine.”\n“What if I didn’t?” he asks. “I’ve probably flunked it.”\n“I wouldn’t think so,” Emmy says. “From what I saw, you did a great job on the course. You wanted to be a hero, isn’t that right?”\n“I did…” Zach looks down into his cup. “But I’m just not sure if I’m really worthy of being selected…”\nMelissa leans closer to Emmy and begins to whisper. “Zach used to hang around with Team Rescuers when he was younger. However, they never taught him anything or wanted him around. Them and his hometown all think he’s a flawed fox.”\n“I know,” Emmy responds. “I heard him talking with Oliver.” She looks to the fox. “Zach, don’t think that way because of Team Rescuers. They are nothing more than idiots and discriminants. Furton is way different than Heroto. You deserve to be a Furton Task Force member… It’s me that shouldn’t…”\nZach picks his head up. “What do you mean, Emmy?”\n“Didn’t you see I needed help every time? I couldn’t complete the course by myself if you weren’t there to help me… I’m nothing but a weakling… But you know what, I really don’t care if I make it or not… Honestly, I’m happy I got to be with a good friend like you.”\n“Aw, Emmy.” Zach manages a smile, nearly coming to tears. “You are very kind… unlike everyone I ever knew in Heroto… I wish I-” \n“Melissa!” Sally walks over to the three animals. “What are you doing?” Melissa answers her that she’s cleaning the tables. “The tables don’t get cleaned when there are people sitting at them. Why don’t you-” A loud explosion shakes the ground and bursts the glass doors open. People run and scream in panic outside. Those inside Pawbucks stare at the cloud of smoke as they remain frozen by the counter or at their tables. \nA dark figure appears, piercing through the smoke. It wears a long, black robe and a white skeleton mask, covering its entire body. In its grip is a tommy gun, pointed at the civilians. “Citizens of Furton,” the masked-hooligan shouts, male in tone. “Fear the wrath of the Grim Gangster!” \n“Oh my god!” Melissa drops her cleaning tools. \n“Not good,” utters Emmy. \nThe Grim Gangster steps in, frightening the patrons and laughing. He looks around, then sets his eyes on the rabbit girl. “Well, well, well.” Walking over, he approaches the table and grabs Melissa. “Aren’t you a pretty lady? I think I’ll take you for myself.” He squeezes the rabbit’s paw hard enough for her to wince with pain.\nAngered, Zach stands. “Leave her alone!” \nThe masked-hooligan turns to the fox. “Oh, defending your woman, eh?” He knocks Zach back with the butt of his gun, causing the fox to fall back into the booth. “What a dumb little fox. I bet you’re flawed, too.”\n“He’s not a flawed fox!” Emmy shouts. “He’s a fantastic fox!” \nThe Grim Ganster turns to Emmy. “Oh yeah? Does he wear a pretty cape and a mask, Warty? Hmm?” The villain is then tackled by the fox away from the girls. Zach pins him to the ground, but the gangster kicks him off. The masked-figure draws his gun at the fox and pulls the trigger, but Zach rolls away to avoid the gunfire. He gets up quickly at the moment his attacker has to reload and lunges forward again, but the villain smacks him again with his gun, disabling him a second time. After putting another clip in the gun, he aims it at the fox. “There’s no point in being a hero, Fox. Say goodbye!” His finger squeezes the trigger, but misses his shots after he’s knocked off with ketchup bottles, utensils, and other condiments. He turns to where the objects were thrown and sees the warthog.\n“You’re not killing my friend!” Emmy throws her coffee at him, soaking his robes with the hot liquid. Becoming angered, the villain aims his gun at her. Zach thinks quickly as to pull him by the legs, causing the Grim Gangster to fall face-first on the ground. The fox is quick to crawl on top of him and try to pin him again. This time, he pushes away the gun and uses his limbs to keep the villain on the floor. Showing through the remains of what used to be the front door, the police arrive on scene, as well as Oliver, and quickly take over the situation. Zach gets off of the Grim Gangster to allow the police to restrain the perp before taking him away. \nMelissa runs up to the fox. “Zach, are you okay? Those hits must’ve hurt.”\n“I’m fine,” Zach tells her. “I’m used to it.”\nOliver approaches the animals. “What happened here?” \n“That masked-idiot burst through here and aimed his gun around!” Sally exclaims. “He would’ve killed people if it wasn’t for the fox here.”\n“Fox?” Oliver faces Zach. “Zach, you took down the villain?” \n“Well, I-” Zach pauses, noticing Emmy with her ears down. “I didn’t do it alone. Emmy helped provide the perfect distraction. With the bad guy focused on her, I was able to take him down. If it wasn’t for Emmy, I would’ve been dead.”\nOliver looks at both the warthog and fox. “Well, I’d say you two did a great job with handling that villain. Definitely adds to your scores on the test, too.”\n“How did we do on the test?” asks Emmy. “What were our results?”\n“Your scores?” repeats Oliver. “Oh, yes! Why, you-” Buzzing interrupts him. He pulls out a scallop-shaped cell phone and holds it to his ear. “Hello? Oh, Mayor Eagle! Yeah, the situation is under control. The villain has been bagged. Huh? No, I didn’t do that. Zach and Emmy got him while I was on my way. You want me to do that? Okay, I’ll be there.” He hangs up and faces the friends. “The mayor wants to see you two. He says to come over immediately.”\n“Oh, this can’t be good…” Zach utters. “I know something bad will happen…”\n“No need to worry,” Oliver tells him. “I’ve got your back on this. We’ll just explain to him what happened, and he’ll let the whole thing slide, hopefully.”\n“Let’s be sure you’re right…”\n\n*** \n\nMayor Eagle sits at his desk, staring at the fox and warthog as they keep their heads pointed at his floor. Oliver and Melissa stand beside them. “I cannot begin to say this, but I must express my voice about it,” the mayor begins. “There could have been a lot of damage caused due to the events of today, and we could’ve seen a mass number of casualties. I will say, this has been one of the most surprising events in Furton’s history.”\n“Sir,” Zach interrupts him. “Please… We mean you no harm… We were only protecting those that we love. Besides, it was all me… I’m at fault… If you must deport anyone for this, deport me… I will leave and never return… I don’t want my friends to suffer, too…”\n“I am with Zach,” adds Emmy. “I was involved in this as much as him… He shouldn’t be alone… Deport me, too…”\n“Oh, you’re both not in trouble,” Mayor Eagle tells them. Zach and Emmy pick their heads up quickly with shock. “I’ve brought you two here to congratulate you in person. You have saved many lives because of what you have done, and the city is grateful for your actions. Good work.”\nOliver steps closer to the two animals. “You know, the city could use more heroes. We need people like you both.”\n“What about our scores on the exam?” asks Emmy. \n“Oh, you both did well. You two are suitable to become part of the Furton Task Force. What do you say?”\nZach turns to Emmy, who also looks up at him. They exchange looks, knowing their choices. Emmy nods to him, letting him know her decision. Zach faces Oliver with a smile. “Oliver, I think you know what our answer will be. You’ve got yourself a deal.” \nOliver smiles. “Come to the headquarters tomorrow. We’ll begin everything.”\n“Oh, Zach!” Melissa grabs the fox, wrapping her arms around him and then planting a kiss on his cheek, causing him to blush. “I’m so proud of you!”\n“Also,” utters the mayor. “As a special thank you, I’m going to bump up your classes from “C” to “B”. Expect moving into a new apartment to fit your new life.”\n“Thank you, Mayor Eagle,” Zach says. \n","writing_bbcode_parsed":"<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>Zach and Emmy sit together at a booth, facing each other as they&rsquo;re cups of steaming coffee are placed in front of them against the surface of the wooden table.
