As they walk down, groups of kids run by, screaming and laughing with joy. Zach stops short, watching as the little animals swarm the playground ahead of them; swinging on the swings, riding springy spaceships, running around on the top of the rubber fortress, and spinning around the roundabout. The fox takes a deep breath in and out as his thoughts process. \n“Zach?” Echo begins, blue with worry. “Are you okay?” \n“Seeing these kids play happily reminds me of the orphanage,” Zach says. “I was by myself… I had no one…” He tilts his head down to the paved path with drooped ears.\nMelissa places her paws on Zach’s shoulders. “Do you need time?”\n“No… I’m fine… I just need to sit down…” The fox pinpoints a wooden bench with iron armrests before planting his seat in it. Melissa props up next to him on the bench, staying with him for comfort.\nEcho steps up to Zach with concern. “Do you need any kind of assistance, Zach?”\n“I’ll be okay. Just go play with the other kids, Echo.”\n“Okay…” Echo turns after changing to his cyan colors for a neutral emotion, walking toward the playground where the kids roam. \n“Zach,” Melissa starts, putting her paws on the fox. “It’s okay… You don’t need to worry about the orphanage anymore. You don’t need to worry about anyone from Heroto either.”\n“I know,” he tells her. “But it’s hard to lose that memory…” Her paws stroke him against his back.\nEcho walks up to the playground. The kids stop and stare at him, pausing and staying where they are. He lifts his arm to wave and turns green. “Hello! I am Echo, artificial intelligence. Pleasure to meet you. I have come to play. Are you all right with my presence?” The kids brush him off and continue to do what they did before the robot arrive. Echo’s colors change to blue as he frowns. He turns his attention to a group of other kids kicking a ball around on the green. Echo walks off near the shrubs to examine the commotion, orange with curiosity. The little robot stops to watch the kids when the ball rolls over by his feet. The group stops and asks him to kick the ball back to them. Echo does as he’s instructed, lifting his leg up to propel the ball forward to the kids, who thank him. “You must be having fun kicking this sphere around. Is it okay if I join you?” The group doesn’t listen, returning to their little game and keeping the robot out of it, causing Echo to turn back to blue with a frown. His colors change back to orange upon hearing ruffling in the shrubs next to him. Echo scans the foliage, picking up an unknown lifeform hidden among the leaves. The robot walks over and parts the branches with his hands, peeking into the greenery. Revealed in the shrubs is a grey dragon about the same size as him. The mythical creature’s blue eyes look toward him as ears stick up next to golden horns. The mouth and nose are covered with tan fluff, much like Echo’s friend, Zach’s, as well as the belly and his paws. On top of its nose is another gold horn. Wings span about the size of the dragon’s body as a tail streams from its back with a tan crescent at the end of it. Echo’s orange color mixes with a white to show surprise, yet curious. “Oh… Hello.” \nThe dragon stares at Echo and tilts its head. “You weird alien?”\n“Huh? Oh, no. I’m a robot. I am Echo, artificial intelligence. According to my scanners, your name is Firework. You are a male dragon cub. Is this correct information?”\nThe dragon stands. “You know Firework?”\n“I just scanned you,” Echo tells him. “What is a dragon like you doing in the shrubs, might I ask?”\nFirework’s ears droop. “Firework been abandoned by flock. Flock deem Firework unworthy to fly with them. Flock never understood Firework.”\nEcho’s colors change back to blue, along with his emotion. “Why did they abandon you?”\n“Flock said Firework too annoying… Too squeaky. Firework become upset and fly away… Firework now alone… No one to be Firework’s friend…”\n“I know how you feel… I will be your friend, Firework.” \nFirework’s ears stick up again as he turns to the robot. “Robot will?”\nEcho changes to green with a smile. “Of course, I will. You can trust me.” He holds out his metal arm, offering his hand to the dragon. Firework slowly reaches for it before grasping and pulling himself up. The robot continues to smile. “I want to introduce you to some other friends of mine. Come with me.” Echo leads the dragon from the bushes and away from the playground, heading up to the rabbit and fox. Zach and Melissa turn to the robot as he stops in front of the two with his new friend. “Zach, Melissa, I’d like you to meet Firework.” The grey dragon holds his tail in shyness. “I found him in the shrubs by the playground. He says he was kicked out of his flock because they thought he was annoying.”\n“Oh,” Melissa says. “You don’t have any parents?”\nFirework shakes his head. “Firework alone… Firework have no one…”\n“Aw, you poor thing… It isn’t right for a little dragon to be out on his own with no parents or friends. Come here.” She reaches her arms out to him, prompting the little dragon to walk over into them. She hugs the grey creature tightly. \n“I didn’t know you were into dragons, Melissa,” Zach adds. He looks to Firework. “Don’t worry, we know how you feel. When I was your age, I was picked on and abandoned. Still haunts me to this day.”\nFirework turns to him. “R-Really?”\nZach nods. “I’m the product of an inappropriate relationship and I have a mental disorder. Other animals are not comfortable with me around. It’s why I left to seek a new life. Now, here I am. I’m still unsure what to do with my life now.”\n“Didn’t you still want to be a superhero?” asks Melissa. \nZach sighs. “I did… But I’m not sure if I want to, anymore.”\n“Listen.” Melissa puts her paw on Zach’s shoulder. “You shouldn’t let others like Team Rescuers tell you what you should or shouldn’t be. If you want to do what you love, you have to do that yourself. You can’t let anyone else push you down and tell you what you can and can’t do. Only you write your own story, not others.”\nZach turns to her. “I guess… It’ll take some time, though…” Echo props next to the fox to help comfort him. \n“Well, look what we have here,” calls a deep baritone voice. The four turn to the source and traces it to a hyena with a male body build, covered in a white buttoned-down shirt, black pants, and matching-colored dress shoes. He stands across from Melissa, staring at the rabbit. “If it isn’t Melissa the Rabbit, daughter of famous Green Gadgets’ CEO, Jack the Jackalope. Funny running into you here.”\nMelissa maintains a flat-mouthed expression on her face. “Oh, hello, Hal… It’s been a while. Why are you here?”\n“Just thought I’d take a nice stroll around the park until I saw you.” He sneers, then notices Zach. “Oh, I didn’t know you’ve had company with you. Wait a minute… You’re the flawed fox of Heroto!” Zach leans away from him. “You’re a long way from home, Little Fox Boy, and a long way from Team Rescuers. Why are you here?” Zach looks away, not answering him. “What’s the matter, Fox? Can’t you talk?”\n“Just leave him alone, Hal,” Melissa tells him. “He’s not very comfortable with talking about his past.”\nHal faces her. “What are you, his girlfriend?” Melissa doesn’t say a word. “I can actually sense it’s true; a Bangbun like you, with a flawed fox.” Zach quickly pivots his head to the hyena. Echo and Firework stare at the grey predator. \n“What did you just say?!” demands Melissa. “Did you just call me a-”\n“That’s right,” Hal confirms. “You’re nothing but a bangbun. You’re just with the flawed fox to take advantage of him, even using him to try and impress people. You know you’re not going to succeed.”\n“That’s enough,” Zach says, clenching his paws. “You’re making us very uncomfortable. You need to leave.”\n“And what are you going to do about it, Flawed Fox?” asks Hal. “You going to call for your hero friends to come and save you while you mess up everything for them?”\nZach stands over him. His eyebrows dip into his eyes. “Leave!” His shouting brings the attention of the kids and other park visitors. “Stop harassing us!” \nMelissa puts her paw on his thigh as the robot and dragon stay close to her. “Zach, don’t…”\n“That’s right, Flawed Fox,” Hal teases. “Defend your “rabbit girl”. You won’t!”\n“Stop! Leave us alone!”\n“Try me, Fox.” Hal places his paws on the fox’s chest and pushes him forward. Zach falls back into the bench hard, landing on his seat and hitting his back against the rear of the bench. \n“Zach!” Melissa stands. “You get away from us, you big bully!” Echo is blue with sadness, standing by. \n“Can it, Bangbun,” orders Hal. “You wouldn’t hurt me. You’re weak! So, take your flawed fox boyfriend, grey bat thing, and tin can away.”\nFirework steps in front. His eyes clenched. “Leave Firework’s new friends alone!”\n“And what are you going to do, Pipsqueak? Huh?” Hal gets his answer immediately as Firework puffs his cheeks and blows fire out at the hyena. “Yow!” Hal backs away upon receiving minor burns to his face and neck, stumbling onto his back before getting back up and running. Firework blasts more fire onto his tail, which ignites like a torch. Hal screams and runs far out of the park with his tail fire growing. \nFirework then turns to Zach, who slowly fixes himself in the bench. “Zach okay?”\n“I think my bottom and back are bruised,” Zach states. \n“I am so sorry, Zach,” utters Melissa. “I don’t know what he was talking about… And I didn’t expect him to-”\n“Melissa,” Zach interrupts. “It’s okay… None of us expected him to begin with. Was that hyena in school with you or something?”\nMelissa sighs. “He was a bully… Sometimes would target me for his antics. Even going so far as to calling me a “bangbun”.”\nZach becomes shocked. His mouth forms a small ‘o’ as his eyes widen. “He wouldn’t…” \nFirework tilts his head. “What does phrase Melissa say mean?”\n“Bangbun is a derogatory term towards rabbits and other related species,” Echo butts in. “It is short for “banger bunny”. Because rabbits are known to “multiply”, the slang word often depicts them as sexually demanding.”\nMelissa crosses her arms with discomfort. “He’s been calling me that for years, as well as other predator kids… When I was in my teens, I started dressing differently. I wear this outfit hoping to please others with my beauty, only to be made fun of by my class.” \nZach wraps his arm around the rabbit, hoping to comfort her. “Don’t worry, Melissa. I don’t think it’s bad. I think you’re cute and hot.”\nMelissa looks to him with a blush. “R-really? You honestly think so?” \n“Of course, I do.” Zach smiles. Melissa brings herself closer and wraps her arms around him for a hug. Zach accepts it and embraces her in his. After pulling away, the fox then turns to the robot and dragon. “Firework, Echo, listen. Some species, mostly predators like that hyena boy, who think they’re better than everyone else because they feel they are dominant over prey. This feeling has been widespread in the predators for centuries. Prey animals, like rabbits, have felt they’ve been discriminated against because of their place in nature. It’s never good to discriminate.” The robot and dragon nod. Zach faces his rabbit friend. “Did you want to head somewhere else?”\n“I suppose…” Melissa thinks in her mind what else there is to do. “Did you want to just hit the mall? I know it’s plain, but it’s the best I can think of.”\n“Whatever your heart’s desire.” Zach smiles. He stands and follows Melissa away from the park bench. Echo and Firework follow along as well. \n“Did that hurt so much?” Melissa asks. “When Hal pushed you against the bench?”\n“A little,” Zach responds. “I’m used to getting bruises like that. Nothing too serious.”\n","writing_bbcode_parsed":"The two animals and their new robot companion stroll down the winding, golden cobblestone path as it cuts through the greenery. His mouth forms a small ‘o’ as his eyes widen. “He wouldn’t…”
Firework tilts his head. “What does phrase Melissa say mean?”
“Bangbun is a derogatory term towards rabbits and other related species,” Echo butts in. “It is short for “banger bunny”. Because rabbits are known to “multiply”, the slang word often depicts them as sexually demanding.”
Melissa crosses her arms with discomfort. “He’s been calling me that for years, as well as other predator kids… When I was in my teens, I started dressing differently. I wear this outfit hoping to please others with my beauty, only to be made fun of by my class.”
Zach wraps his arm around the rabbit, hoping to comfort her. “Don’t worry, Melissa. I don’t think it’s bad. I think you’re cute and hot.”
Melissa looks to him with a blush. “R-really? You honestly think so?”
“Of course, I do.” Zach smiles. “Did you want to head somewhere else?”
“I suppose…” Melissa thinks in her mind what else there is to do. “Did you want to just hit the mall? I know it’s plain, but it’s the best I can think of.”
“Whatever your heart’s desire.” Zach smiles. He stands and follows Melissa away from the park bench. Echo and Firework follow along as well.
“Did that hurt so much?” Melissa asks. “When Hal pushed you against the bench?”
“A little,” Zach responds. “I’m used to getting bruises like that. Nothing too serious.”
","pools_count":0,"title":"Fox and Friends Episode 4: Park, Pals, and Problems","deleted":"f","public":"t","mimetype":"image/png","pagecount":"1","rating_id":"0","rating_name":"General","ratings":[],"submission_type_id":"12","type_name":"Writing - Document","guest_block":"f","friends_only":"f","comments_count":"0","views":"13","sales_description":null,"forsale":"f","digitalsales":"f","printsales":"f","digital_price":""}
