Luckily, that friend was not only a unicorn, but had gotten admitted to one of Canterlot's magic academies. And as luck would have it, her hobby of retranslating and transcribing old books and tomes lead her to the discovery of what seemed like the answer to so many bygone wishes upon shooting stars and bits dropped into far flung wishing wells. A growth spell, one that was permanent. Suffice to say, her coltfriend was game to help her. Unfortunately, the spell in question was far beyond his capabilities. It simply required more magic than he could produce. Rather than give up, youthful recklessness found a way.\n\nAnd as is often the case with youthful recklessness, it bit both colt and filly in the flank. When the smoke cleared, the staff of the academy found the pair amidst the distorted miss-grown wreckage of the storeroom they'd snuck into to cast the spell on Plains. The spell, meant to permanently enlarge the young filly's entire body to mare-like proportions had gone wild and dangerously random. The exact cause has never been fully pinned down, but some professors have their theories after finding the little filly--awkwardly bow-legged trying to push a newly enlarged sea cucumber off the unicorn colt. To this day, the eight foot long pickled sea cucumber still comes up in conversation around the teacher's lounge. And they still haven't figured out what to do with the robe-maker's doll with the enormous head and oversized hooves..\n\nAfter a full diagnosis at one local doctor who specialized in magical mishaps, it was determined that the duo would be fine with the exception of one cracked and stubborn-healing unicorn horn, and having some embarrassing telltale growths as a result of the spell.\n\nThe filly got her wish, though.
