Why would I need those?''\n\nDoril flopped back into the cloud in a fit of laughter. ``Maybe being second best to me is finally starting to get to you.''\n\n``That's it!'' Alune yanked out his wand. ``I'm turning you into a grasshopper!''\n\nThe other fairy stopped laughing and glanced nervously at Alune before scrambling away. He wasn't taking any chances. ``I know you're hiding something, and I'm gonna find out what!'' he shouted before he was totally out of sight.\n\nAlune took a few deep breaths to purge his angry thoughts. He was about to be in his happy place, and Doril couldn't interfere with that. He'd have to be more careful though. The other fairies loved to gossip, and Doril wasn't even the worst in that department.\n\nHis gaze returned to the moon and stars and he suddenly gasped. ``Oh!! It's past midnight! It's the day! Ok... ok... before I rush into things, I better take precautions.'' \n\nHe held his wand up over his head and swirled it while blue energy twisted around him. It created a slight blurry effect on his body, and slowly that blurring effect shifted to his side and began mirroring his form. Soon enough, it looked like an actual copy. He kept swirling his wand and focusing his magic while dozens more copies appeared. They weren't real of course, just powerful illusions that could fool anyone who was trying to keep track of him. Once he was done, he sent the copies flying out in every direction. They'd be spread out for thousands of miles.\n\n``There... no way they'll find me before those things run out of juice.'' With that out of the way, Alune darted through the clouds back toward the animal rescue. All was quiet in the fields... he could tell most of the animals were sleeping. He descended to his usual window and fluttered into the nursery while a shaft of moonlight illuminated his wings and made his fairy dust sparkle even more than usual. He stopped briefly on the edge of the crib and peered down to see the boy gazing back up at him with a happy look. ``Oh... wow! you're awake! Did you sense me coming?'' \n\nAlune smiled and floated down to land on the pillow right next to the boy's head. Cody seemed just as familiar with him now as he did one year ago. His innocent, big sparkly eyes gazed upon Alune with calm and loving warmth. There was almost something hypnotic about them... Alune could feel himself being pulled into those beautiful eyes, like he was being all snuggled up in Cody's love. He blushed and backed away a little. Was he falling under the charm spell again? It was definitely still there, and it felt just as strong as before. But still, this affection seemed genuine.\n\nTruthfully, Alune wasn't used to anyone showing him real affection and that made it feel even more precious. ``T... thank you. Y... you're a very good boy, Cody,'' he whispered while reaching over one of his tiny hands to pat Cody's head. ``And now, I've got a very special present for you!'' Alune closed his eyes and gathered up all of his thoughts and energy and powers once more. He knew this one would probably drain him a bit more than the charm spell. The boy closed his eyes as sparkly, shimmering fairy essence poured into him, swirling around inside his body and mind like a whirlwind of information and magic. Selene's wisdom and charm twirled and mixed together inside him, turning into something even more magical that felt like it might explode out from his forehead in a huge sparkly rainbow. \n\nAlune's power drained much more quickly this time. He held on as long as he could before passing out right there on Cody's pillow. \n\nThat flow of energy finally stopped and the baby boy opened his eyes back up, looking dizzy and confused. For the first time in his life, he knew things... more than just his emotions. He was still too young to understand most of what he knew, but certain things were clear. That silly little fairy passed out on his pillow... that was his daddy, and he'd just given him a very magical birthday present. Cody closed his eyes and trembled feeling the fairy magic tickling around inside of him... it felt very good. Eventually, he fell asleep and had his first dream... about rainbows and strawberry cakes and horses. He was a bit small and shy. He stayed behind Flora while greeting Alune with a quick nod. Then the donkey continued, pointing to the black colt to her left. ``And that's Caspian.'' The black colt looked up to him cheerfully and called out ``Hiya Mr. Fairy! Did you come back to help another animal?'' \n\n``Well, not really...
