"Of course I am. And I'm also talking to the dog. You can talk to animals, right?"

"Sure, I guess. Why?"

"Because I'm talking to the dog."

"Oh, okay. I didn't realize you could do that. I thought only cats could do that kind of stuff."

"It's because I'm a cat, too."

"Cool. So, are you going to help that dog?"

"I'll try to. It's not doing well, though. How badly is it hurt?"

"Not good. Its nose is smashed, and it's bleeding everywhere."

Elan luckily had his trusty first-aid kit in his backpack, next to his emergency radio. He opened it up and got to work treating the dog's injuries. They weren't life-threatening, and the husky was back on his feet in no time!

"That was lucky," Dakota said.

"Yeah, thanks for helping," Elan replied. "I'm glad you're here."

"Me too. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have made it back alone."

"How did you get stuck out here in the middle of nowhere?"

"My father took me for a ride out to the country. He said we needed a break from the city. He was planning on showing me some of his favorite places, but we ended up getting lost and... it was all downhill from there."

"Did your dad die?"

"No. He was just in a horrible accident, and he didn't make it. My mom blames herself for it and she hasn't left the house since."

"That's terrible."

"It is, but I've been able to handle it better than my brother. He's been acting really strange lately. He's been drinking a lot, and sometimes he comes home drunk."

"That's sad."

"It was, but we got him into rehab. He's doing a lot better now, and he got hired as an accountant."

"Really? That's great. I hope he stays sober."

"Thanks, Elan. I appreciate it."

"All right, let's keep going. I have a feeling we won't find anything interesting out here."

"Dakota, stop. First, I need to confess something to you. You're my first love."

"Oh, okay. How do you feel about me?"

Elan blushed and smiled. "I like you a lot, Dakota. I can't wait to tell my friends back home."

"So, do you want to get married? You'll have to break up with Ethan, though."

"I know, but that won't be hard at all. I'm positive that he's cheating on me with some other girl anyway. I can't stand him. I'm going to dump him tomorrow, and I'll start dating you instead."

"Heh, great. Now you're all mine, kitten."
