So I told hir about the chance to let our expert surgeons get used to the assembly-line efficient work they'd have to do on Christmas eve, and the nights we'd be doing free work for volunteers to let our staff practice back-to-back lapping, and shi showed up at one of our facilities around close-of-business. One of our clerks let hir in at the side entrance, with the rest of our volunteers trickling in, and we stumbled into each other at the lunch counter where the volunteers were waiting with snacks and cider while they filled out their paperwork and committed to a few weeks of helping us help the Red Cross raise money. \n\nWhen they handed in their papers, one of our techs picked up our new branding gun, and froze a pawprint onto their right hip, and a hoofprint onto their left, then painted a serial number below the hoofprint with sunscreen - zinc oxide cream. Next, another tech injected a microchip between right ear and horn, and linked the microchip to the medical records, and turned them loose to wait - our operating rooms needed to be cleaned and stocked and our surgeons needed to get a break, a meal, and cleaned up. (We did the branding and tagging before the waiting so there would be less opportunity to chicken out - in for a penny, in for a pound!) Pretty much all of our volunteers spent the next five minutes with tingling rump-cheeks, watching the frost brands fade as the tissue thawed, and admiring their new, permanent markings, which marked them as lapdragons-to-be (the pawprint) and members of the Christmas 2058 class of volunteers (the reindeer hoofprint).\n\n\nAfterwords, we return to Esven (\"Dragon #21\") wakes up after his transformation into \"Reindeer #21\"; the first thing he does after coming to and remembering where he woke up was lift his leg to inspect the \"improvements\" made there.
