My story starts out as most other stories on a normal sunny day. However anything about this day would be considered far beyond normal. Well it began like any other day, so this is my story from the beginning.
It all started in my field lab. I was working on a potion of sorts specifically one that was supposed to give you amazingly good luck. I was going to call it Liquid Luck the name I had derived from a movie I once saw but I digress. The potion was designed to last a few days so that I could test properly however since I had nobody but myself I usually ended up becoming the test subject of said potions, which is why I make an effort that the effects of said concoctions are beneficial rather than harmful.

I went outside in search of a four leaf clover. I needed one to finish my Liquid Luck potion that I was so close to finish and since a four leaf clover was considered lucky by many I needed to get my paws on one. I stretched my wings as I looked a little ways off in the distance where a small mountain range would come before my eyes. I believe the range itself was called the Goldencap Mountains due to the supposed rumors of the extremely rare and of course valuable Goldencap mushrooms that are said to be found there. Personally if I got my hands on one I could make my potions as strong and potent as can be enabling me to auction of my Liquid Luck for thousands if not more gold coins, however I have to do with what one has available to them.
I went back into my steel building of solitude before quickly shuffling around grabbing a small bunson burner, my incomplete potion of Liquid Luck, a mini flask, and one small little dropper as I placed them all cautiously in a small rucksack before heading back out into the wonderful daylight that this environment receives on a daily basis. Once outside I breathed in the fresh prairie air as I flapped my wings before rising slowly above the ground a few inches as I flew towards the mountain range at a steady pace that slowly increased the longer I flew. After half an hour or so of what became high speed flying I made it to the base of the mountains where a would come across a densely forested section which is where I then found my little trail on the side of the mountains themselves. I lowered myself on to the ground as I stopped my wings from flapping manually of course, once I came to a complete stop I slowly walked into the dense patch of forest as I headed up the side of the mountain.
Another hour or so would pass as I climbed the steep slope until it gradually flattened out in to a little plateau where my other laboratory was located. The reason I needed to go to this one was so I could continue making the potion while searching the nearby area for four leaf clovers because of course if you don’t know already the plains aren’t a very good place for finding clover depending on the native species of flora in that specific environment. Once I reached the steel reinforced building I put down my rucksack gently as I took out my assortment of glasses, flasks, and of course the bunson burner along with the dropper organizing them neatly on the desk before heading back out into the early afternoon sunlit field.
I searched the nearby area for a patch of clovers and after several minutes I found a nice patch, however of course when I went through it there was no four leaf clover. I knew this would take a while so I spent the next half hour searching through each clover in every patch I came across. It wasn’t easy but if I was to find one I had to make sure I didn’t become lazy while looking. I decided if I didn’t find one soon I would search on the other side of the ridge, however after searching through two more medium sized patches I finally got lucky…really lucky! Were my eyes deceiving me it seemed as if there was two four leaf clovers in the same patch. I crouched on my knees as I examined the specimens of clover and sure enough there were two of them right in front of my eyes. I greedily snatched them up as I headed back to lab two or it’s officially name the Shroom Lab since the name of the mountains were, well you know. Once back in the lab itself I immediately placed both clovers in the mini flask before turning on the burner as I added a few drops of water with the dropper from a jug I kept handy in the cabinet.
“This water has been purified and should extract the luck factor from the clovers as they get boiled down, along with tinting the potion a slight green,” I said to myself as I looked over the transparent potion that was nearly completed.
I would wait for a few minutes as the two clovers boiled down before picking up the flask and tilting it from one side to the other then swirling the green liquid from side to side in order to mix it since I had no stirring stick. I stuck the flask back on the little mini burner as its gas powered heat was working perfectly for my solution that I was brewing. Four or so more minutes would pass and the clovers had been melted into a semi-liquid state. I started to speak aloud as if there was a crowd of students to give a lecture to, “Unfortunately most of the solution is no good due to it not being an emerald green; however I found a way to make the entire thing useful over some trial and error experiences. If one was to turn the heat to very low like I have done just now, one would discover that if the solution is left to simmer at said heat for another six minutes maybe seven you would be able to use the entire solution as the heat broke down the entire clover into an even finer more greener liquid. This is the stuff one wants in any solution associated with charming or good luck. Took me a few months to figure this out, if only I could go back and reuse all the clovers I’ve wasted.”
After a waiting a few minutes the clovers just as predicted had been entirely melted into a fine dark green liquid a little bit thick but otherwise perfectly useable for any enchantment, or in this case potion usage. I turned the gas powered mini burner off as I swirled the flask a bit more eyeing it in the process. My muzzle curled a little upwards to form a smile as I mixed in the transparent Liquid Luck solution in with the green solution to complete the potion itself that I was brewing. The potion then became an emerald green as I let it set for a couple minutes. Once it sat out long enough it was time to cool it down so I stuck it in a container where I had placed some ice that I acquired from one of the higher peaks in order to cool it faster. The ice itself I had enchanted so it never really melted unless you decided to suck on it, then the particles from your saliva broke down the mid-level enchantment and melted the ice into water.
I have to wait an entire day for the ingredients to properly combine so for the rest of the sunny day I read more alchemy books and learned a tip or two in the process. I kept reading until it was getting dark outside and once that happened I closed the steel doors behind me, locked them, and then silently went to my bed as I quietly dozed off into a peaceful slumber. I would dream of the endeavors that would happen after drinking the Liquid Luck and for much of the night it was my reality that is until the first beams of the early morning light shone through encouraging me to get up slowly as I headed to the container where the potion had been placed. I opened the Styrofoam box as I looked at the green liquid inside. I could tell it had been chilled immensely when I picked it up but as I tilted the little tube of green I realized it wasn’t frozen which was good. I slowly gulped down the contents making sure to note the time and date that I ingested the fluid also I jotted down an estimated temperature of the liquid itself onto my notepad.
Normally my potions tasted mostly clear and had no real defined taste since they were transparent, but this one was green and in fact it tasted well, it tasted a bit like a green vegetable which thankfully I liked being an omnivore myself and really too picky either. Moments later my body would glow a green but only briefly before a sort of popping noise would be heard as there were literally sparkles appearing around my body as it seemed to shine. I cursed myself for this happening but instead of moping around I decided to go outside to test my luck since the potion was supposedly working how it normally should with the exception of me being shrunk as a very rare side effect. I had to fly back down to the ground then slide through the small crack on the underside of the two doors that way I could actually get outside without exhausting myself from trying to open the doors themselves. For the next three hours I kept wondering around avoiding close calls mostly with insects and small mice but the really lucky part was I managed to find a patch of Goldencap mushrooms so it seemed to me that the rumors were true hence the name of this mountain range.
