First she had been oblivious to this because of her youth and inexperience, but the lioness started noticing changes in herself - her first heat was starting and then she couldn't avoid the male like before. \n\nWhen the worst had happened, the young female felt lost. Older lionesses told her to accept it, but it was easier for them since they've had given birth before. Akinyi was scared and disgusted - she never wanted cubs, she didn't want to give birth, she was afraid of giving up and eventually becoming a loyal breeding machine. Even the thought of that made her feel like throwing up, but there was no backing away from the situation. When Akinyi felt the time was near, she found a safe cave and soon went to labor.\n\nIt was one of the most painful and difficult experiences she never had, but now the young mother was cradling four male cubs on her paws. At the same time the brown lioness felt nervous and excited. Akinyi had slowly gotten used to the idea that she would become a mother and now she was. It would be lot easier to think of them as her own cubs, not his. Maybe they could be raised without knowing their father well. Maybe she could actually love them. No, she would. They were her cubs, after all. She had even thought names; Bomani, Otieno, maybe Kijivu... Yes, \"Kijivu\" would be perfect name for the gray one. The lioness was so tired that she fell asleep, after licking the cubs clean.\n\nRays of the setting sun awoke Akinyi. She was expecting hungry mewling, but instead there was nothing to be heard. Three of the cubs were moving, but one was lying still. Akinyi tried to get them drink milk, but they were too weak. When half an hour had passed, rest of the cubs weren't moving anymore either and she realized that all of her sons were gone. Hot tears started to run down her cheeks and Akinyi held them, even though nothing could be done.\n\nSooner or later she had to return to the pride and tell what had happened.\n\n[b]He[/b] wouldn't be pleased.[/i]\n\n---\n\nOh deer.
