As a mean to control the overpopulation due to the limited resources, this dystopian society has been running an event that proved to be effective for the past decade. As the citizen is marked when they reach a certain age, they are then automatically enrolled to an annual event named the "Rite of Hunting", which is happening once per seasons. All participants then have to survive as they have to hunt each others, regardless of the location (they are sometimes making this as a televised sports as mean of making this profitable) and if they have successfully survive four events (or four seasons), they are losing the mark forever, making them no longer allowed to be hunted and thus, live they life without danger.
Although the citizens weren't grown to be natural killers, certain establishments are running various courses that are related to self-defense, even on how to kill. For the latter, they are making the learning more effective by using living test subjects, but since they cannot simply use marked citizens for the demonstrations, they typically use criminals who were sentenced to death. On rare occasions, they also use marked citizens who has willingly forfeited their place in the rite, which basically means they have signed their death warrant.
On a day like the others, an instructor has welcomed his new group, with his desk covered with a large sheet, which was obviously hiding something under it. After explaining certain tricks regarding hand to hand combat, he then proceeds with finally revealing what was under the sheet, an unconscious male Dalmatian. Of an average build, he had purple spots he had instead of the typical black ones. He also had multiple tattoos of stars on his purple left ear to simulate a starry night. The instructor recalled his name was "Lotus", which no doubt earned this name because of his particular color of fur.
After mentioning a few tricks on to eliminate someone by snapping someone's neck, he then proceeded with a live demonstration while asking his group to pay attention to how he does it and how the body reacts. Grabbing the dalmatian's head, he proceeds with forcing a quick turn, followed with an audible "crack" from his neck, which sealed his fate. While still holding the head, pressing the back of it against the instructor's chest, he waited until the body stops twitching before he put it back on his desk, followed by cover him with the sheet once more.
"Thank you for joining today's course, everyone!", said the instructor. "I hope this will help you survive the next event!"
