Her mind and heart struck with an odd sense as she spent so many years trying to equal herself in power only to now easily over power her sister with a meer thought thanks to her third eye, she was lost, thinking she no longer had a mistress to serve, yet Gereheart stepped in, convincing the kitsune that while she may have achieved the status of a twint tail, on top of her talents in other magical natures, she was but a novice entering a new category in its entirety.
Hitomi of course scoffed at this, hearing it from a Tanuki of all creatures, until her pride was challanged, Gereheart wagering that she/he could turn Etsuko back to her original state without any loss of memory of power, yet if Hitomi lost, she'd abide by Etsuko's wishes to start a new and would protect her ever still.
With the wager accepted the kitsune felt she had it all in the palm of her hand... yet in the end she lost, spectacularly, to the point the defeat is still subject to many questions as to what exactly happened.
