Things became very busy for Bobby, Gideon, and Travis after their decision. On top of what things they normally did, they were now spending a lot of their spare time preparing for the wedding. It came as no surprise to any of them that when their parents found out, they all wanted to be involved. On one particular day, about a week later, though, the three of them found out just how determined their parents were to help make things go smoothly. As the three were sitting down together finishing up breakfast on a Saturday morning, the buzzer indicating someone was downstairs was heard. “I’ll get it,” Travis said, standing up and walking over. He pressed the button on the intercom. “Hello. How can I help you?” “Ah! Travis, hello! I hope I’m not disturbing anything,” a female voice replied. “No, not at all!” Travis turned to Bobby with a grin. Bobby jumped up from his chair and rushed over. “Aloha, mom.” “Aloha, Bobby,” his mother’s voice replied. “Are you busy?” “Not really. We were just finishing up breakfast. Why the sudden visit,” he asked. “I’m pretty sure you already know the answer to that,” she said with a laugh. “I have Amanda, Tyler, and Charles all here with me. May we come up?” Bobby chuckled, looking over toward Gideon, who nodded, having just finished his food. He then spoke. “Sure.” He pressed a button beside the intercom. “The door’s unlocked.” “We’ll be there shortly,” Kara told him. “Sounds good. See you soon.” Bobby chuckled softly, walking back to the table and finishing the last couple bites of his breakfast, having finished just as there was a knock at the door. “Ah’ll get it,” Gideon commented, walking over and opening the door. He was immediately met with the sight of all of their parents standing in the hallway. He stepped aside to allow them to enter. “Come on in,” he said. “Thank you, Gideon,” Bobby’s mother responded, giving him a soft smile as she entered. As Amanda and Tyler entered, both of them hugged Gideon, with Amanda also giving him a quick kiss, which made Gideon blush slightly. Charles then entered with a smile on his face. He was holding a folder in his paws as he entered. Gideon raised a brow as he saw it. “What’s the folder for?” “Just a few ideas for things I’ve had written down,” Charles commented. Hearing that, Travis laughed. “You really HAVE been waiting for this, haven’t you, Dad?” “For quite a while, Travis,” Charles told him. “Which is why we’re here,” Amanda added. “We wanted to help you set things up.” “Right,” Tyler chimed in. “We wanna make sure ya have everythin’ ya need taken care of before yer special day. Where yer havin’ it, yer guest list, what yer gonna wear... all that good stuff.” Bobby couldn’t help chuckling. “We knew you guys were going to do this eventually.” “Not that we mind,” Travis commented. “It’ll be nice to have things taken care of sooner rather than later. We’ve got some stuff figured out, but between running the pie shop and Bobby’s classes, we get pretty tired by the end of the day.” “Well, let’s see what we can do to lighten the load a bit,” Charles commented, placing the folder he had on the table. “What stuff have you guys already gotten figured out?” Gideon spoke up again. “We have our caterin’ figured out already. Stu, Larry and Gary are gonna work together fer that.” Bobby chimed in. “Which meant we also needed to make sure we had our guest list figured out, so we sat down together and wrote out the list of all the people we wanted to invite.” “We haven’t decided on WHERE we wanted to have it yet, but we’re sticking to our original planned date,” Travis added. “That’s going to be about three weeks from now, correct,” Kara asked. “Right,” Bobby replied. “That Saturday.” “So... you need some ideas on a place to have it, do you,” Charles commented as he opened his folder. “I can offer a few suggestions.” Travis laughed. “I figured you’d have an idea or two, Dad.” “Mmhmm,” the elder ferret said with a grin. “There’s a park on Cotton Tree Road that has plenty of space.” As he said this, he handed over a picture of the area. “There’s the chapel on River Street.” He handed over another one. “If you’re okay with a little bit of a drive, there’s Critter Park near the lake on the other side of town.” He handed over one more. “All of these are good options,” Gideon commented with a smile. “I agree,” Bobby remarked. “What do you think, Travis?” Travis nodded. “Yeah, I think any of those would work. But which one do we choose?” Amanda looked at the three of them. “Well, you don’t necessarily have to pick right now,” she said. “These are just some ideas.” “It’s probably better if we do, though,” Gideon said. “The sooner we get stuff planned out, the sooner we’ll be able ta let people know, so they can plan ta be there.” “He’s got a point,” Tyler commented. “Havin’ it planned out weeks in advance means people can give their workplace a few weeks advance notice, so they don’t end up workin’ if they can avoid it.” “Did you have any other possible options, Dad,” Travis asked, looking at his father again. Charles went quiet for several moments as if he was thinking about something before he spoke. “I do have one other place that I think would be a nice spot for it. There’s plenty of space for it too.” “Where’s that, Charles,” Bobby asked. “My house,” Charles replied. Travis went wide-eyed. “You’d offer to let us hold the wedding at your house, Dad? Seriously?” “I don’t see why not. You know we have a huge yard, and the kitchen’s big enough to hold the food for it,” Charles commented. “What do you think, guys,” Travis turned his attention back to Bobby and Gideon. “Ah think that sounds like a great idea. Don’t get me wrong. These other places are nice, but ah’ve seen yer dad’s house more than enough times ta remember how big it is, and the yard has more than enough space ta accommodate everyone.” Gideon smiled. “I think that sounds like a great idea,” Bobby said with a smile. “I’d love to have it there, if you’re offering, Charles.” “Great,” the elder ferret said with a smile of his own. “Then that’s one less thing for you to worry about. And now you’ll have an address to put on the wedding invitations.” “That we do,” Bobby commented. “Good. Now... What kind of wedding were you wanting to have,” Amanda asked, looking at the three of them. “I don’t think it needs to be anything extravagant,” Travis remarked. “Me either,” Bobby said. “Something simple, like what was done for the double wedding we went to, would work, I think. What do you think, Gid?” “Ah think that sounds good. No need ta make a big fuss over it,” Gideon commented. “Where’s the fun in that,” Kara said with a smirk. “You have to let us have SOME fun with it.” Bobby snickered. “I knew you’d say that, Mom. Was there something you had in mind?” She just smiled.” Actually... if you’re going to have the wedding at Charles’ house, keeping things simple probably WOULD be best.” “Oh, I don’t mind decorating if you have an idea, Kara,” Travis’ dad told her. “If you have an idea, I’d love to hear it.” “Well, I know Bobby’s favorite color is blue, and Amanda tells me Gideon’s is as well, along with green, which I’m told is Travis’ favorite color... So I was thinking we could decorate the yard in blues and greens. I’m sure we can come up with something nice.” Amanda grinned. “Oh, I LOVE that idea,” she said. “And I don’t think it would be too much trouble to have Larry and Gary decorate the cake with those colors either,” Charles commented. Gideon looked at Bobby and Travis. “Why am ah not surprised they’re gettin’ excited over this.” “Because they’re our parents,” Travis replied. “Which reminds me...” He looked at Bobby. “I’m surprised your dad isn’t here.” “He’s probably working right now. I figure he’d be here with Mom if he weren’t,” Bobby remarked. Kara looked at Bobby, Travis, and Gideon again, breaking away from her conversation with the others to do so. “What do you boys think of the idea?” “I can’t say I’m against it. Seeing things decorated in blues and greens would definitely make it look nice,” Bobby told her. “Ah agree. Yer gonna need a lot of decorations though. The yard is pretty big,” Gideon told her. “Oh, don’t worry about that. You leave that to us,” Amanda chimed in. Bobby, Gideon, and Travis all just laughed and nodded. “So, we’ve got the place figured out now. Our parents are taking care of decorating. We already had our wedding date figured out. We pretty much know who we want to invite too, but we haven’t made out the invitations yet. What else are we forgetting,” Bobby asked. “Hmm... Actually, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head,” Travis told him. “Me either,” Gideon responded. “Well, there’s still plenty of time ta figure it out,” Tyler reminded them. “Ah think ya got the most important stuff.” “Right,” Amanda agreed. “And even if there’s something you forget, we’ll help to make sure you have it by the time the wedding comes.” “Absolutely,” Kara told them. “We’ll make sure your wedding is perfect.” “I wouldn’t expect anything less from you, Mom,” Bobby said with a laugh. “Or any of you, for that matter. We all figured you’d do what you could to make this special for us.” “Yup,” Gideon agreed. “We’d have been more surprised if ya didn’t.” Everyone shared a chuckle at that point. “Seriously, though, boys... We want to make it a special day for you,” Kara told them. “We know, Mom,” Bobby commented. “And we’re all looking forward to it. Right, guys?” “Right,” Gideon and Travis replied together. “Well, then, I suppose we’ll head out and leave you to enjoy the rest of your day,” Charles commented as he gathered up the images he had gathered. “Hey, Dad,” Travis looked at him. “Hm?” “Sorry you wasted the time getting those pictures together, only for us to decide to use your house instead,” Travis remarked, rubbing his neck. Charles chuckled. “Don’t be. I only brought the pictures to give you some ideas anyway. I had no idea if you already had a place picked out or not. If you had, I would have wasted the effort anyway.” “I suppose so... You’re really okay with having the wedding at your house?” “Absolutely. I’m looking forward to it. I think I might head out and start gathering a few things to prepare,” Charles told them. “Oh!” Bobby looked at the others, having just realized something. “We told Larry and Gary we wanted them to cater it, but we need to decide WHAT we want to serve for it!” “Heh... See... Ya remembered somethin’,” Tyler looked at him. “That’s kinda important.” “Yeah, it really is,” Bobby chuckled. He then looked at Gideon and Travis. “What kind of menu should we have?” “Ah guess that depends on what time of day we’re havin’ the weddin’,” Gideon replied. Right then, Bobby’s cell phone rang in his pocket. He pulled it out and, almost immediately, laughed as he looked at the caller ID. He answered the phone, putting it up to his ear. “Were your ears burning or something, Gary? We were just talking about figuring out a menu for the wedding.” The timberwolf laughed. “Perfect timing then. That’s just what I was calling about.” “Funny how that worked out,” Bobby commented, before pushing a button on his phone to put it on speakerphone. “I’ve got you on speakerphone now. Travis, Gid, Mom, Amanda, Tyler, and Charles are all here. So... did you have some ideas?” “We did, yes, but that depends on when you wanted to do it. Were you thinking of doing a morning, afternoon, or evening wedding?” Gary asked. “Hmmm... What do you think, guys” Bobby looked at the others. “I think afternoon would probably be best. That way people have plenty of time to wake up without having to rush themselves to get there, but also still have time to make it home before it gets too dark,” Travis remarked. “Ya know what, Travis? Ah think that’s a pretty smart idea. Doin’ it in the afternoon sounds like a good plan ta me,” Gideon responded. “I agree,” Bobby said with a smile. “Plan for a lunch menu, Gary.” “Sounds good. Now what kind of a menu did you want to go with,” Gary asked. “Hmmm... Sandwiches would probably be easiest,” Bobby said. “Or maybe burgers,” Travis commented. “I have a grill you can use in the backyard that will help that along,” Charles told them. “Sandwiches would be faster, but burgers might be more fillin’,” Gideon added. “If you guys pay for us to make burgers, we’ll make them. Don’t worry about how much time it takes us,” Gary told them. “We want this to be about what you guys want.” “Burgers then, guys?” Bobby looked at the other two. “Yeah, let’s go with the burgers. I think that’s a better idea than just sandwiches,” Travis replied. “Same here,” Gideon added. “Alright then,” Gary said with a laugh. “Now then... What about the sides?” “Fries and onion rings typically go with burgers, so we could do that,” Travis commented. “And maybe some potato salad,” Bobby added. “Ah like the sound of that,” Gideon replied. “Would that be okay with you guys, Gary,” Bobby asked. “Yeah, we could do that easily enough,” Gary told him. “Want to go with that?” “I think so,” Bobby commented. “Great. Now, all you need to do is figure out what drinks you want to serve,” the timberwolf commented. “That’s easy enough. I noticed during the wedding we went to, there was a lot of tea, juice and a few different types of sodas. That seemed to work well enough for everyone,” Bobby commented as he looked at Gideon and Travis. “How does that sound to you two?” “Works fer me,” Gideon told him. “Same here. I mean, yeah, we’re gonna have a much different group of guests during our wedding, but I think that’s plenty of variety for everyone,” Travis remarked. “Great,” Bobby replied. “I guess we’ll go with that then, Gary.” “Alright. I’ve been writing this stuff down as we’ve been talking. This shouldn’t be too hard to get together,” Gary told them. “Sounds good. When you get costs all figured out, please let us know, okay,” Bobby replied. Gary gave a soft chuckle. “Of course. You guys are still planning on having the wedding at the end of the month, right?” “Yup. That’s the plan. And now that we’ve got the menu figured out, that’s one less stress for us to worry about. As you can probably guess, our parents have pretty much taken over the decoration phase of the wedding,” Bobby said with a laugh of his own. “That doesn’t surprise me,” Gary replied. “That reminds me... Just in case it wasn’t clear when Dad offered his grill, we’re going to have the wedding at his house,” Travis told him. Gary laughed again. “That’s great. We’ve got one we can bring as well. That will help speed things along.” “Is there anything else you need to know right now,” Bobby asked. “Not at the moment. I’ll make sure to let Larry know about the menu you guys have put together, and we’ll let you know when we have costs figured out.” “Sounds good. Talk to you later then.” “Yup. Take care, guys.” “Aloha,” Bobby said as he hung up. He then looked at the others. “Well, I guess that’s another thing checked off the list of stuff to take care of.” “Ah guess that means we should work on gettin’ the invitations sent out,” Gideon remarked. “Yup. This wedding is happening for sure now, so we have to make sure we give people enough time to plan for it. Hopefully, we can avoid the chaos that nearly happened with the last one.” As Bobby said this, he pointed to his necklace, chuckling. As he did, the others chuckled as well. “I suppose now that ya have things figured out fer the most part, we should probably leave so ya can get back ta enjoyin’ the rest of yer day,” Tyle said, addressing the three younger males. “Well, I can’t think of anything else we need to take care of at the moment,” Bobby commented. “Can you guys?” He looked to the others. “Not really. At least, not right now,” Travis replied. “Not that ah can think of,” Gideon told him. Kara smiled. “Then we’ll all get out of your hair. We have work to do as well, after all.” Bobby walked over and hugged his mom, kissing her on the cheek as well. “Mahalo for coming by. This makes things a little easier on us since we now have a better idea of what we’re going to do going forward.” “We were glad to do it,” Amanda told him. “Anything we can do to make your wedding day better, we want to do.” “Right,” Charles and Tyler chimed in. “Well, regardless, we appreciate it,” Gideon told them. “Ah’m lookin’ forward ta this more and more the closer the day gets.” “I think we all are,” Travis remarked. “The way things are going, I have a feeling it’s going to be great.” Charles walked over to Travis and hugged him. “We’ll do our best to make sure it is.” Travis hugged back. “I don’t doubt that, Dad.” Everyone made their way to the door, giving hugs to each other as they stepped out into the hallway. “Mahalo for coming over, everyone.” “We’ll keep in touch with how things are coming along,” Kara told him. “Sounds good, Mom. I hope you all have a safe trip back home,” Bobby commented. “Oh, I’m sure we will,” Kara replied. Just as Kara was about to leave, Bobby suddenly remembered something. “Oh! Mom! One more thing. I’m a little late passing this along, because I was supposed to tell you this the day you first got here, but...” Kara held up a paw. “I talked to them already, Bobby. Your father made sure I checked in with Tidus and Tho the day I got here because he figured you’d be busy getting ready for classes. How have they been going, by the way?” Bobby chuckled. “They’re going fine. I’m not having any trouble. Surprisingly I’ve been able to keep a good balance between my classes and working without an issue.” “That’s good. Don’t tire yourself out,” she told him. “Don’t worry, I won’t. Aloha for now, Mom.” “Aloha,” she replied, as she and the others left. With a chuckle, Bobby shut the door. He then walked back to where his dishes from breakfast were still sitting. He gathered them up, as well as the dishes that Gideon and Travis had used, and brought them over to the sink, rinsing them off. As he did, he had a smile on his face. “What’s got ya in such a happy mood all of a sudden,” Travis asked, walking up to him to help load them into the dishwasher. “I’m just looking forward to the wedding. I know it’s still a few weeks away, but I can’t help getting excited about it,” Bobby told him. “Ah can understand why,” Gideon told him. “Ah’m lookin’ forward ta the weddin’ mahself. Ta be completely honest with ya, Bobby, if we didn’t need ta wait ta get stuff ready so we can have all our friends and families there, ah’d do it right now.” This made Bobby’s smile grow. “It makes me happy to hear you say that, Gid.” “Ah mean it. That’s how much ah love ya,” the fox said. “I wouldn’t mind either, to be honest,” Travis replied. “But I want to have everyone there. There are a lot of people that I know would be sad if they missed it.” “True,” Bobby replied as he continued rinsing the dishes and passing them to Travis. “I wonder if Mayor Buckley... I mean Jasper has ever officiated a wedding where three furs were getting married to each other.” “No idea,” Gideon commented. “But if it’s anythin’ like how the double weddin’ was a first fer Leo, it’s probably just as rare an occurrence.” “While I’m thinking about it, I think I’ll call Stu and see if he knows a good way to reach out to him,” Bobby said as he handed off the last of the dishes. “I’m sure he does, seeing as they’re good friends,” Travis commented as he loaded what Bobby had given him into the dishwasher and closed it. Bobby nodded and pulled out his cell, calling Stu. After a couple of rings, the rabbit’s voice was heard on the other end. “Hey there, Bobby.” “Aloha, Stu... I had a question I wanted to ask. You’re good friends with Jasper, right,” Bobby asked. “Funny you should ask. I’m with him right now,” Stu said with a chuckle. “Really? Well, that’s convenient timing,” Bobby replied, chuckling. “Mmhmm. Did you need something,” Stu asked. “Yeah. I wanted to know if he’d want to officiate the wedding between Gid, Travis, and I,” Bobby told him. “Hang on. Let me hand him the phone.” There was some muffled chatter between the two of them before the other rabbit’s voice was heard. “Hey, Bobby. Stu tells me you had a question you needed to ask. What is it?” “Aloha, Jasper... I was wondering if you’d be willing to officiate the wedding between Gideon, Travis, and I?” “I’d consider it an honor, Bobby. Believe it or not, I don’t officiate weddings very often,” Jasper told him. “Really?” “When you consider just how big the population of Bunnyburrow is, it’s not too hard to find someone to do the job, so I don’t get asked much,” the rabbit said. “I think it’s been a little over a year since the last time.” “I suppose that does make sense.” “Mmhmm. In any case, I’d love to help,” the rabbit told him. “Great. I’ll make sure yours is one of the first wedding invites that get sent out then, so you know when and where we’re having it,” the porcupine replied. “Sounds like a plan to me. Did you need anything else from me?” “Nope. Not right now,” the porcupine commented. “Alright. Let me hand the phone back to Stu. Take care, Bobby.” “Bye, Jasper.” A few seconds later, Stu spoke. “It sounds like you’ve got your officiant.” “Mmhmm. Mahalo for letting me talk to him, Stu.” “No problem, Bobby. Did you need anything else?” “Nah. That’s all for now. Love you, Stu,” the porcupine commented. “Love you too, Bobby. Bye.” “Aloha for now,” Bobby replied, hanging up. He then looked at Gideon and Travis. “One more thing to check off the list.” “Yep,” the other two said in unison. “Is it weird of me to say I want to work on our guest list now, while I’m thinking about it,” Bobby asked. “Nah, ah don’t think that’s weird,” Gideon told him. “Since we’re already thinkin’ about it, we might as well.” “I agree,” Travis replied. With that, Bobby walked over to where they had a computer and printer set up, grabbing a piece of paper from the printer as well as a pen before walking over to the kitchen table and sitting down. “Okay, so, obviously, we want our families there,” he said as he started writing down names. “And I’m pretty sure a lot of our friends would be sad to miss it too.” “I’m pretty sure you’re right,” Travis replied. “And we have a LOT of friends. It’s a good thing Dad’s house is so big.” Bobby laughed as he kept writing. “Right.” “We’ve got so many that ah hope we don’t forget anyone,” Gideon remarked. “I highly doubt that would happen. Even after we send the invites out, if we forget anyone, we could always just visit Tidus and Theo and ask them to pass the message to anyone that might show up at the Zoo. Over the last five years, I’ve made so many friends that I’d hate to leave anyone out.” “Ah suppose that’s a good point,” the fox remarked. “Mmhmm.” Bobby, Travis, and Gideon spent a long time going over the different people they wanted to invite to the wedding, so they knew how many wedding invitations to make. Once they were sure they had everyone’s name down, they spent a while using the computer to design the cards, eventually printing them all out. They also printed extra in the event they forgot anyone. After that, they went to a store to buy envelopes and stamps for the cards, came back home, and began addressing them all and sending them out. By the time they had finished, the three of them had smiles on their faces. “There. All done,” Bobby said as he flopped onto the couch. “Yup. Now we can relax for a bit,” Travis replied. “Right. Let’s just enjoy the rest of the day. Maybe we can watch a movie or something together. We haven’t done that in a while,” Bobby suggested. “Ah like the sound of that.” The three of them did exactly that, settling down together and watching a movie before eventually having dinner together and going to bed. The next several weeks weren’t too much different from normal for the three of them, now that they had the majority of things figured out. Bobby attended his classes as normal, and he helped out with things in the pie shop whenever he wasn’t in class. Gideon spent a lot of his time baking, even when he wasn’t working because he said it helped to keep him from thinking too much about the wedding. Travis helped Gideon in the kitchen as well but also spent time working on his drawing skills, which he had been neglecting lately. As the days grew closer, it became more and more apparent how nervous and excited the three of them were getting. The night before the wedding came, and, when it had, Bobby had a big smile on his face. “I can’t believe the wedding’s tomorrow,” the porcupine commented. “Me either, but I’m looking forward to it,” Travis told him. “Same here. Ah don’t think ah’ve been more excited fer anythin’ in mah life,” Gideon added in. As they sat there talking, they heard the buzzer signaling someone at the door downstairs. Figuring he knew who it was, Bobby walked over to the intercom and pressed the button to answer. “Aloha!” “Hey, Bobby,” came Stu’s voice. “How are you feeling?” “Excited but nervous,” he said. “I can imagine so. Can I come up,” Stu asked. “Of course,” Bobby said, pushing the button to unlock the door. “Come on up.” “Be there in a minute then,” Stu said. “Alright,” Bobby replied. He turned to look at Gideon and Travis. “Guess I should get my stuff together, hm?” “Probably a good idea,” Gideon told him. Bobby nodded and headed to the bedroom, going through his drawer and gathering his clothes for the night. He also picked up his tuxedo and carefully folded it up, packing it away. Once he had, he came back out. When he had, he spotted Stu in the room, walked over, and hugged him. “Aloha, Stu. I’ve got my stuff packed for the night.” “Glad to hear it. Are you going to be able to manage being away from these two for the night.” Stu asked. “Yeah, I’ll manage. It’s gonna feel weird, but I know it will be worth it.” Bobby smiled. He then walked over to Gideon and Travis, kissing and hugging them both. “I love you.” “We love ya too,” they both replied. “See you tomorrow,” the porcupine said. As he looked at the two, a tear formed in the corner of his eye, knowing that the next time he saw them, he would be getting married. He then wiped it away and looked at Stu. “Alright, let’s go.” Stu nodded. He gave Gideon and Travis a hug, saying his goodbyes as well before taking Bobby out of the apartment, down the elevator, and to his van. “Are you okay, Bobby,” he asked after getting in. Bobby got himself situated inside as well. “Yeah. Just... really happy. I can’t believe this is happening.” “I can’t believe you’re willingly putting yourselves through the tradition of not seeing each other the night before your wedding.” “We thought long and hard about it and decided we wanted to do things right. Travis is being picked up by his dad, so he’ll be at the house, ready and waiting for us tomorrow,” Bobby told him. Stu nodded as he started up his van and began driving. “Well, you know your Dad and I are willing to talk you through whatever you’re feeling tonight.” “I know,” Bobby remarked. “I’m just... looking forward to this.” “It’s definitely going to be a special occasion,” Stu commented. “And I’m glad to be a part of it.” The two continued chatting as Stu drove to his house. When he got there, Sam was waiting by the front door and came over giving Bobby a hug and a kiss as soon as he was within reach. Bobby smiled and returned his father’s affection. “Aloha, Dad.” “Aloha, son. Come on inside.” Sam stepped aside to allow Bobby and Stu to enter, which they both did. “So, tomorrow’s the big day.” “Yeah... by this time tomorrow, I’ll be married,” Bobby commented, sitting down as Stu gestured for him to do so. “That you will,” Stu replied. “And I can tell you right now, it’s going to be the best day of your life.” “I don’t doubt it,” Bobby said with a smile. Right then, his cell phone rang. Pulling it from his pocket, he looked at the caller ID, smiled, and answered it. “Aloha, Mom.” “Aloha, Bobby. I’m at the store right now, and I was wondering if you’d like anything special for dinner. Nachos, maybe?” Bobby laughed. “When have I EVER turned down nachos, Mom? That would be great.” “I’ll grab what we need to make some for tonight then,” Kara told him. “Are you with Stu and your father yet?” “Yeah, I just got here a couple of minutes ago,” Bobby told his mom. “Very good. I’ll be there soon,” she told him. “Okay, Mom. See you when you get here. Aloha for now.” “Bye, Bobby.” Bobby hung up his phone and looked at his Dad. “Sounds like I’m getting my favorite meal for dinner tonight,” he said. “Seems that way,” Sam replied. “Haven’t had nachos myself in quite a while,” Stu commented. “And if your mother is making them, I’m sure they’re delicious.” “They are,” both Bobby and Sam said at the same time, laughing together. The three of them sat there chatting until Kara arrived half an hour later. When she had, Bobby helped her bring the groceries inside and helped get things put away. Afterward, Bobby was shooed out of the kitchen so Kara could make dinner. When he sat back down, he looked at his dad and spoke up once more. “Hey, Dad... I have a bit of a silly question.” “What is it, Bobby?” He paused. “Actually, Stu... I think this is a question I could ask you as well.” “Go on,” Stu looked at him. “What went through your minds on the day you first got married,” Bobby asked. Sam just smiled. “You mean when I was actually getting married, at the chapel?” Bobby nodded. “I remember being extremely nervous,” Sam told his son. “I wanted everything to go well. Up to that point, there weren’t any problems, but I had been waiting for something to go wrong. I didn’t relax until your mother was at my side, and, even then, I just wanted to be able to make her happy.” Stu nodded. “I was feeling close to the same way during my wedding with Bonnie. There was a lot of chaos getting everyone gathered, and I was so worried something was going to make things go south. When she was finally at my side, and we were officially married, I remember feeling so relieved and happy at the same time.” “To be completely honest, there’s part of me that’s worried something’s going to go wrong with our wedding too, but I keep telling myself I’m just overthinking it. We’ve already gotten everything we needed, and everyone we hope to see there has already confirmed they would be coming. I’m not really sure why I’m so worried about it,” Bobby told the other two males. “It’s okay to feel that way, Bobby,” Sam said. “Trust me when I tell you, though, that when you’re up there, and you’re actually getting married, you’re going to feel so much better.” Bobby nodded. “I’m sure you’re right. Truthfully, as nervous as I am, I want to do this. I want it more than anything in the world right now, and nothing is going to stop me from enjoying tomorrow to the best of my abilities. I’m getting married to the two men I love more than anything in the world, and I know we’ve got a great future ahead of us.” The other two males nodded and Sam spoke. “That you do. I know how happy the three of you are together, and there’s no doubt in my mind, your wedding will go smoothly.” “Same here,” Stu remarked. “I can see you three being together for a very long time.” “Mahalo, you two. That means a lot to me.” The three of them talked, with Kara eventually joining the conversation as well, while things were cooking. Once dinner was ready, the four of them sat down and ate, talking more about the wedding. As he finished his food, Bobby got up and cleaned his plate. When he finished, though, he just stood there, staring out the nearby window without a word. This was enough to get Kara’s attention, who walked over, putting a paw on his shoulder. “Bobby? Are you okay?” Bobby looked at her and gave a soft smile. “Yeah. I’m fine. Just thinking.” “About tomorrow,” Kara asked. “Specifically about what’s going to happen after we’re married. Do you think anything is going to change?” “What makes you think something is going to change at all,” his mother asked. “I don’t know, actually. I’m probably being silly. I mean, why would ANYTHING change? The only difference is we’ll legally be married, but that’s not going to change anything we do for each other, is it?” “As long as you still love and care about each other, you’ll be able to handle any change that comes your way,” his mother told him. Bobby nodded. Yeah, you’re right... And we definitely love each other.” “Then there won’t be any problems,” Kara told him. Bobby looked at her. “Mom...I have a stupid question.” “What is it, Bobby?” “Does it... feel weird, knowing you’re technically still married to Dad, but he‘s been in a relationship with Stu for the last five years?” Kara shook her head. “Not at all, actually. We talked about it a long time ago and we agreed to be in an open relationship. Granted, that was before our Clinical Homesickness had been cured, but I stand firm on that decision. In fact, your dad isn’t the only one who has found someone else to love.” Bobby’s eyes grew. “You found someone you’re in love with too, then, Mom?” She nodded. “I did. And you already know who it is.” Bobby paused, thinking, then facepalmed. “Mister Heathcliff.” Kara nodded and laughed. “Mhm. That’s the real reason he moved with me when I moved here. We’ve become a couple, just as Stu and your father have.” “I really should have seen that coming,” Bobby said, laughing as well. “How is he?” “He’s doing well. You can ask him yourself tomorrow, though. He’ll be at the wedding,” she told him. “I’ll do that,” Bobby replied. “Mom?” “Hmm?” “Mahalo.” Kara raised a brow. “For what, Bobby?” “Just... for being here. For being my mom. For being part of my life even through all the craziness that’s happened. I love you.” “I love you too, Bobby. That will never change,” Kara told him. “I know...” He smiled at her. He then turned back to Stu and Sam. “And mahalo to you both as well. I’m glad you’re both part of my life.” “I think I can safely speak for your dad when I say we’re both glad to be part of your life too, Bobby,” Stu said to him as he walked over, with Sam beside him. The three of them then gave Bobby a hug, which he returned. Bobby then smiled as he took a look around the room, knowing this was the last night he’d see it as a single man.
