I felt like I couldn’t breathe! “Kate..!! Kate…!!!” I begged, hoping for some miracle that she would untie me and save my life. Yet, she continued to ride me. My vision grew fuzzy, sounds became dull, everything began to go dark….\n\nSuddenly, my eyes opened, my vision was cleared. Except… I was in the air. Was I dead..? I glanced down at the room below, and saw a lifeless body on the bed. Was it my body?\n\nNo… no…….. It couldn’t be… it was… Kate… She was dead, laying on her back on my bed. Anguish filled my soul, I felt the sudden need to die, the urge to let everything go, but what the hell was going on…?! It was then, that time slowed. My hand felt around my neck. I could feel the rough texture of a rope. Oh… I get it now…\n\nThat’s right… It was always me. That night I raped my daughter in her sleep, I forced her on me the next morning, and every time since. She never consented, she never wanted it. It was in my head the whole time.. That’s right… Tonight when she threatened to tell, I killed her, I choked her to death. And now I’m hanging myself.\n\nMy vision faded as time resumed and I swung in the air. The last thing I saw was my daughter Kate laying on my bed, smiling at me.\n\n\n\n* * *\n\n\n\nAlternate Ending B\n(Continuing from after he blacked out from the original heart attack)\n\nMy eyes opened to see the most adorable little girl I had ever seen. My daughter Kate, with a big smile. Yet, as my vision become clearer, something was wrong. She was younger.\n\n“Mommy! Grandpa’s up! Grandpa’s up!” I heard her cry and run out of the room. What was that all about? I wasn’t a grandpa. I was her father. Trying to sit up didn’t work, so I stayed down and looked around the room. A hospital room. I supposed I survived the heart attack after all. A young woman rushed into the room with a man I’d never seen and Kate.\n\n“Daddy!” the woman cried with a joyous smile, a smile I knew all too well. It was the same smile Kate’s mother would give. “You finally woke..”\n\nTears streamed down her cheeks. “Daddy?” I was incredibly confused, but squinting my eyes allowed my vision to focus just enough on the woman to recognize who it was. “Kate…?” my heart leapt into my neck, the heart rate monitor began to beat faster.\n\n“Don’t overwhelm him! Don’t overwhelm him!” the man warned.\n\n“Daddy, calm down,” Kate asked as she eyed the heart rate monitor.\n\nIt took a lot of effort, but I shut my eyes for a moment and breathed steady, my heart rate slowed down to normal. “I dont understand… What’s happened?”\n\n“Daddy…” Kate trailed off, fiddling with her fingers like she did so much as a child and teenager. The little girl I thought was Kate stared up at me from next to Kate’s leg.\n\n“Mr. Nip,” the man began, clearing his throat. “You’ve been in a coma for a long time. We come to visit you once a week. It’s me… Bill,” he told me, and I tried my best to make heads or tails of what he was saying. Bill… Billy??? That runt that was in the room with my daughter, the one I kicked out of the house?\n\n“You..!” I growled at him, but stopped as Kate raised her hand to protest.\n\n“Daddy, Billy and I are married. We have a daughter, your granddaughter Allyssa,” she explained. It took a lot for me to soak this all in, it was too much. But I remembered what I put her through. I owed her this much, I would try to understand…\n\n“Hi, grandpa!” Allyssa said with a big smile, giving me a hug. My heart melted, I felt a tear stream down my cheek.\n\n“That’s.. Amazing,” I choked, smiling at them. “I’m proud of you,” I said, and I meant it more than she could ever understand. She made it past everything. The trauma, the pain, her mental problems. He had never seen her so.. Normal, acting and speaking her own age. Married, with a child. Despite everything, Kate was happy, she has been happy, and that.. Means everything to me.\n\n“Daddy I’m so happy you’re awake, I’ve waited so long for this day…” she came to me and gave me a hug, a hug that had never felt so good.\n\nAs I laid awake for the first time in many years, staring at my aged and mature daughter, her husband, and my grandchild, I couldn’t help but weep, as my family held each other in the hospital room and smiled at me.\n\n* * *\n\nThe door was slammed shut in my face, preventing me from leaving. I sighed in frustration and turned to face an angry Kate. “Sweetie, I’m not having this discussion. I’m turning myself in. I have to answer for what I did. I know it’s painful to hear, and to talk about, so we won’t. Let me go now,” I asked, truth to my voice. It’s been a few weeks since I was released from the hospital, and this subject was something I battled with until I ultimately decided what the right thing to do was.\n\nKate wouldn’t hear of it. “Daddy, you’re not going! I just got you back!!” she began to cry, it killed me to see her cry.\n\n“Please don’t, Kate…” I begged. “I have to pay for hurting you. I’m sorry…” Not knowing what else to say, I simply gave her a hug.\n\n“Daddy… I know where my mind was back then, but I was always aware of what you were doing. I was more than old enough to understand it. I didn’t care.. I wanted you to, and I’d do it all over again if it meant being close to you…”\n\nI couldn’t help but scowl at that. “Don’t say that…” Please don’t..\n\n“Daddy, I won't press charges, and I don't want you to go. If you really want to make it up to me, stay here, and be my father… please..?”\n\nThat look in her eyes, those words… If that’s truly how I could make it up to her, I’ll do it. I’ll do anything to right my wrongs. She wants a father, she always has. This time, I’ll do it right. “Okay, Kate. I’m your father, and I’m not going anywhere, I’ll never hurt you again.” In my heart, I felt the sincerity of my words.\n\n“I love you, Father…” That was the second time in her life, that she referred to me as ‘father’.\n\n“I love you too, Catherine.”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*author’s note: Ending C may also be interpreted as Tom getting out of prison for his crimes and seeing his grown daughter and her husband and child, a similar effect would apply there.
