Blazing Speed

	The crisp solian air shuddered as sparks and mechanical parts flung through the air at high speeds.  Damaged metal, destroyed sprockets and spilled oil littered the landscape as robot upon robot, bearing the insignia of a bald man with a large mustache were burned to cinders by searing flames, flames engulfing anything unwise or unlucky enough to cross it's path.  The source of these flames jumped around the battlefield, dodging attacks and reducing the sources to nothingness.  A female feline of flames, danced around her targets with ease with twisting about in bright flames unending.

	This cat, Princess Blaze to all those who lived in the land, stood to defend her homestead against these mechanical menaces, landing to the ground after a high jump, she turned and faced her adversaries, look and tone of a steadfast protector.  “Unless you wish to become a molten pile of slag, I suggest you all leave at once!”  She shouted aloud, drawing her flames within her palms.  “Either way, no harm shall come to my home!”  The eyes of the furious feline ignited with a flame of bravery as the robots paid no heed and charged.

	The land filled with hundreds of automatons, one after the other kept charging forward into Blaze's defensive ring.  While several robots were no challenge to the cat, this was different, the amount of robots charging at her was way more than she had ever faced alone.  Whatever the doctor was planning, clearly he wanted her out of the way, so he was going for the “quick kill” option.  It didn't matter to Blaze, she was scrap any and all robot sent at her.

	One after the other, robots were burned, smash, melted, eviscerated, and every other destructive state under the sun.  But they just kept on coming, Blaze herself starting to become winded as minute after minute of fighting passed by, she began to wane.  Easy dodges turned into more close calls, attacks had less punch to them as her stamina drained away.  

	After nearly an hour of constant battle, Blaze had managed to riddle down the attacking force to an eighth of what it was starting out, but her strength was leaving her as she took a need to the soft solian soil.   “pant......Nggh...can't take much more of this....huff....But I'm not....finished yet!”  Her words still carried a resolute tone, but her body had other stories.  Her legs shook as she tried to stand and gather her flames, but collapsed on both knees when the power refused to gather.  

	The robots marched forward to the tired cat, weapons drawn and ready to eliminate her.  The realization of this mattered little to Blaze as she still kept trying to gather herself and defend her home.  The robots were nearly to her position before one of them suddenly exploded without warning, sending parts all around with a loud bang.  The metal menaces looked around to see where such an attack came from, only to look forward at Blaze once more, to see her staring up at the back of a certain blue hedgehog.  

	“You...”  Blaze spoke as she looked to her standing guard.  The blue hedgehog stood in front of her, looking forward to the pile of bots ready to charge forward.  With a smile and trademark wipe of the nose, Sonic spoke out with a witty tone.  “Ya know, it ain't nice to pick on a lady boys.  Which egghead sent you huh?”  The robots didn't answer Sonic's question, they simply marched forward, ready for a fight.  Sonic smirked and looked back at the panting Blaze.  “Seems like these metal heads worn you down princess, how about you let me take it from here?”

“As if I need-....nggh...”  Blaze's attempted at retaliation became muted as her body agreed with the blue blur, even if her pride didn't.  “I had it...*huff*....well in hand!”  She blurted out to save at least some face.

“I can see that.”  Sonic retorted with a chuckle, turning back to the ever closer bots.  “Well, while I'd like to catch up with you, maybe I should take care of these bolt heads first.  Take a breather Blaze, I've got this.”  Sonic gave the ground bound cat a thumbs up as he charged into the fray, bolting up and down and all around to smash anything his is path.  His lighting fast speed making fast work of the bots.

	While having a sizable force would be enough to take down one of these heroes, it was a far different story with two.  Only a fraction of their force remained and had to deal with a fresh faced speedy hedgehog, this wouldn't take long for Sonic at all.   

	Blaze's pride might have been a little damaged from the display of aptness by the hedgehog, her tired body was happy to get a little rest from the fighting.  While she was dismissive at first, in truth she was good to see one of her best friends again, especially Sonic.  He always knew how to put on a lovely display of heroism.  She watched up, enjoying the carnage of metal, albeit reluctantly.  In truth, the display was awe-inspiring to her.
 
	A smashed robot here, a witty remark there was the hedgehog's trademark, making fast work of the remaining bots.  Watching such a show, Blaze felt old and hidden feelings swell up inside her.  She didn't know if it was just being tired from the constant fighting, or just the fact that Sonic was here to save the day yet again.  But she felt genuinely happy to see him regardless of the circumstances.  She sat cross-legged in the grass as she observed, thinking to herself: “Always have to put on a show don't you? 	Sonic landed to the ground, dusting his legs off, then his hands as he turned around to inspect the damage.  Hundreds of robot parts were scattered around, the land was more metal than dirt.  Sonic put a hand over his eyes to look out, seeing the spray of parts all around.  “Man, where do the eggheads get all these guys?  Guess it was a two for one bargain sale!”  Smirking again and shrugging it off, the blue hedgehog turned his attention to the purple cat that sat to the ground.  He walked over to her, offering a hand.  “So, why don't we head back to your castle?  Unless you like sitting around a bunch of burnt bots.”

	Blaze pouted as she raised her chin away from Sonic's hand.  “I don't require your assistance, I told you I had it well in hand.”

	“Uh-huh, and my name is Mr. Needle-mouse.  Now cmon, do you REALLY wanna walk all the way back?”  Sonic shut his eyes part way and smirked yet again.  Blaze on the other hand was rather irritated, both by the comments and the offer.  As if she needed more of her pride damaged.  Then again, her sense of practicality ran a bit deeper than that, and while reluctant to do so, she put a hand out to the hedgehog.  

	“ALLYOOP!” “Wah!”  Without any warning, Sonic gripped Blaze's hand and raised her up into a carry position and started running, Blaze grabbed onto his shoulder and looked at him, clearly annoyed.  

	“You could have at least told me you were going to do that first!”

	“Oh c'mon I'm not gonna drop ya, relax and enjoy it, I don't give folks free rides that often ya know.”

	“Hmph!”  Normally, Blaze didn't care for such help and while she showed a clear dislike for the action, the feeling of the fast wind on her body, the strong grasp of security, in truth....she enjoyed it.  She hid a bit of an embarrassing blush as the two ran to Blaze's home castle, she would never admit this openly, but for a long time, she had feelings for her blue friend. When I went through, I ended up here and the portal closed behind me.”  Sonic responded as they approached the Castle of Sol, the newly established structure had it's gates opened with no signs of damage.  It seemed the castle and it's denizens were fine, no bots had made it through to cause any harm.  This made Blaze breath a sigh of relief, her people were safe.

	“I can stand now Sonic...Thank you.”  Blaze spoke as she hopped out of the hedgehog's grasp, though deep down, she wouldn't mind staying it a little longer.  “If ya say so.”  Sonic shrugged as the two made their way into the castle, various guards greeting them along the way.  “I've had reports of these portals you mentioned appearing all across Sol, your Eggman must have been sending robots to the Sol dimension to bolster our Eggman's robot forces.  I'll have my stewards prepare a return portal for you, but it's going to take some time.”   

“Hay I don't mind, this place has a pretty cool flare to it, mind if I crash for a while?”  Sonic asked.

“I wouldn't want a friend of mine sleeping on the streets now would I?”  Blaze returned rather sarcastically.   The two of them laughed as they traveled up the castle's structure, chatting about how their friends were and what's been going on.  It had been a long long time since the two had seen each other, and while Sonic felt just a simple “long time no see” vibe, Blaze's emotions and thoughts ran a bit more intimately.
