Each review will be a picture of my characters acting out a situation from the movie and dressed as the characters. Plus, at the end of the review, I will compare it to the animated film that played last year during the same month. So without furthur adeu, heres the review (Heh, rymes)\n\nSo, On Tuesdsay I went and saw Strange Magic and I have to say that I thought it was good, not perfect, but not bad and I wil ltell you why.\n\nStory: The story revolves around two kingdoms right next to one another but at odds end with one another. Marriane is about to become wedded til she finds out she is cheated on and suddenly becomes more assertive, the Bog King hates all love and keeps it away from his home land. When he kidnaps Marrianes sister Dawn, its u p to her to rescue her from the Bog King and ends up discovering something about him. From what I have read, the story is supposed to be like Beauty and the Beast, so theirs not a whole lot of originality going for it.\n\nCharacters: Their are some rather interesting characters. Marriane (Even Rachel Wood) is one of two main characters who ends up become agressive after she finds out the fairy she was supposed to marry cheated on her and keeps her guard up more. The Bog King (Alen Cumming) is a hideous creature who resides in the dark woods despises love and keeps all who trespass in his woods as their prisoners. The Sugar Plum Fairy (Kristen Chenoweth, Gabbi from Rio 2) is the films spellcaster who makes the potion to help one fall in love and is a prisoner of the Bog King. Sunny (Elija Kelly) is an elf who has a crush on Marriane's sister Dawn and goes on a quest to get the love potion to help accomplish his task of getting her to notice him. Roland (Sam Palladio) is the fairy who cheated on Marrianne and plans to get her to love him so he can be ruler of her army. Most of these characters are what you'd expect from a film. the typical girl becomes less girly and more open minded, the evil king who despises cute stuff, a scumbag who tries to make one fall in love with him. but in all honesty, I don;t find these characters really bothersome. I especially enjoy Marriane and the Bog King as they are rather interesting and have themselves a really good sort of bonding time (which the film should have fleshed out more) but all in all, they are characters that I dont want to punch in the face (Like a certain last januarys films characters)\n\nAnimation: Now what this movie lacks in story and character development it makes up for with great animation and art direction. Kudos goes off to Industrial Light and Magic for seeminglessly jumping from special effects in live-action movies to full blown animation. The locations are very lucious and bright in color and have some really good lighting in dark locations. While some of the character designs can be a bit generic, some designs are rather nice and creative too. like one creature who kind of looks like a walking pirana fish.\n\nScore: The music is nothing special to write home about. The score done by Marius de Vries is what you'd come to expect from scores in most generic animated films, but it does have its moments of exoticness. As for the songs, they tried WAAAAAAY to hard for this to be a musical by incorperating songs from modern day and other songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's. They come off as out of place or out of nowhere and kind of throw off the mood of the movie. That's not to say they are bad or anything. some performances of songs like \"Love is Strange\" or \"Strange Magic\" Are really good considering the talent behind the microphone. But all in all, this film did not need to be a musical and would have been better without them, except maybe for \"Strange Magic\" I really love that one.\n\nAll in all, this film for me gets a 6.5 out of 10.
