"description": "I went and saw Smallfoot yesterday and let me say, it was rather surprisingly good, it surprised me in ways I never thought it would. Let me explain now. \n\nStory: The world of Yetis live on a mountain top surrounded by clouds and have done so for millions of years. They follow rules of laws set in stone all protected by the StoneKeeper. Until one day, a lone Yeti named Migo, while in his duties to learn about being a gong ringer, finds a human on the mountain top and begins to question things which upsets the StoneKeeper and has him banished. Along with the ragtag team of SES members, they begin to uncover the truth and show everyone that the SmallFoot (humans) truly do exist and that their is more to following a set of rules. To start, what an interesting setup for a sort of conspiracy type of film which this does delve into. I will say, however, this does not go as deep as, say, Zootopia, but considering the studio this animated film came from (WAG) its a surprising tale to tell. Kind of reminds me of Sausage Party, but done in a more kid friendly way. The world that the yetis live in is a sort of community group that work and live together as friends to keep the city going despite what their work is all about and that's what I like about it. The one problem I have with it is how much this film doesn't dive deep into it. I mean, I guess it is mostly a kids film in the long run and I can understand. The film may have a few hiccups down along the way, but their is still a little bit of interesting pathos in this movies script.\n\nCharacters: Migo (Channing Tatum) Is the main character of this film. Set to become the next Gong Ringer after his father (Danny DeVito) He learned the ins and out of it while also realizing after finding out about the smallfoot, that not all the rules set in stone are true and he tries to find proof after being banished and learn about the human world. Percy (James Corden) is the other sort of main character in this movie. After losing his sponsors and suffering huge amounts of dept, he sets about to restore his former glory and fame once he learns about the Yeti and ends up learning about their fascinating culture and builds a friendship with Migo. Meechee (Zendaya) is the non believer in her fathers (StoneKeeper) rules and helps Migo realize it while also building a relationship with him. Most of the other characters are their to fill the roles of supporting like the SES members consisting of Gwanji (LeBron James) Kolka (Gina Rodriguez) and Fleem (Ely Henry) and their is also Brenda (Yara Shahidi) who is Percy's assistant and friend who tries to talk him out of the fake Yeti set up while also being their for him during his rescue of Migo later on down the film. The one in this film who experiences the best arch is Migo since he has to come to grips with learning how the rules are not always what they seem to be despite how old they are and asking questions is a good thing rather them pressing them out of existence. The challenge of authority while also having to go along with it once he is told the \"supposed\" truth about the humans makes him a very compelling and relatable character once he sort of accepts his destiny of following the stone rules is both captivating and heartbreaking and I would go to say his character reminds me of Judy Hopps from Zootopia. Even his father comes to a revelation after his accidental discovery. The other characters just kind of fill their role as being sometimes the comedic or tagalongs, which is fine, but could of used more work in their development as characters.Percy, himself goes through a bit of an arch himself. He, at first, cares about getting himself back on top and then suddenly changesd his mind after becoming friends with the yeti's and goes about helping in their protection against the humans. Oh, and the Stonekeeper (Common) is quite the character himself, but I wont go to much into him since he does play an important part in the story. While most of the characters aren't that well developed, their are still some enjoyable characters and strong main character, to help carry this picture along. \n\nAnimation: As we have seen with one of WAGs previous films Storks, Sony Pictures Imageworks comes in to deliver some, once again, albeit tame, cartoony animation that fits in well with the quick wit of Looney Tunes style from slapstick antic to character behavior and its fun to watch. This film also managed to make the Himalayan mountains look very enchanted and pretty. I want the people from Norm of the North's production to look at this film (and Frozen) and get a sense of what a cold place should look like since they made Antartica look so plain and boring. The mountain, and the community that the Yetis live in, is very creative and has that primitive look to it like cave people, but with a bit more sophistication. The one thing, however, that enchanted me the most was the human village that was all aglow in the nighttime with that very eastern Tibetan look almost Chinese and oriental, and since I have been on a Tibetan binge lately, it tickles my creative bone to see a place represented in such a way not normally seen a lot in films, other then last years Rock Dog. As for the character designs, they do have that more cartoony design to them almost like what you do see in films like Despicable Me and Hotel Transylvania, but their movement, while still having that cartoony antic about them, are a little more controlled and not like you just swung a 3-D model through G-Mod. Although, its a shame since from what I researched, the character designs would have looked a bit different, not to mention, had a more unique identity about them (https://www.facebook.com/thespastudios/photos/a.163184020428409/1898747680205359/?type=3&theater) Considering that the movie was based off a book called Yeti Tracks written by animator Sergio Pablos who helped write some of the script, was an executive producer for this film AND he created these designs I have linked you to, it would have been a lot more respectful to the original creators vision. Oh well, in Hollywood, they do what they can to sell people on the idea of the film and if doing it in this style is more attention grabbing, then so be it. Still looks good, I suppose. \n\nMusic: Now, get this, this film is a musical. Yea, I didn't think they would market it as such. Maybe one song in the credits sure, but their are some musical numbers. The songs were written by both the Director Karey Kirklpatrick and his brother Wayne and, they are pretty good songs in their own right. Maybe not to the levels of Disney songs, but they are pretty good in their own right. Perfection is that sort of song that's a bouncy pop song about how great things are in their world. Its a mix of \"Get back up Again\" (Trolls) and \"You're Welcome\" meaning it has that bounce of GBUA, and Tatums singing sounds like Dwayne Jonson's in \"You're Welcome\" Wonderful Life is that song of hope of discovery and what lies beyond and sung beautifully by Zendaya. But my most personal favorite song from the film is \"Let it Lie\" rapped by Common. While it is a rap, it was written incredibly symbolic and very hard hitting and Commons voice just makes it flow naturally. It is the one song in this film that helps you understand his intentions which feels like a call back to the song \"Open up your Eyes\" from The My Little Pony movie. I recommend that you go watch this movie before you hear the last song, it leaves a huge impact more then listening it separately. Their is even one song sung with the melody of Under Pressure (Queen) and new lyrics by the song writers as Percy sings about his predicament to Brenda in a pub. They could have EASILLY used the song as Ice, Ice Baby, considering all the location is covered in snow, but they, thank god, did NOT. and their is one final song in the movie called \"Finally Free\" by Niall Horan which is pretty serviceable. As for the score in this film, its very hit and miss. While it is pretty generic for the most part, it cane give us some pretty good stuff with the use of such things like foreign music that has that primitive style thrown in, which makes me wish they went for more of that then the generic stuff. The score was done by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me movies and Angry Birds movie) which does have that similarity to the other works I have mention. While the score leaves a lot to be desired, its strength lies in its written songs. \n\nIf I had to give a final rating to this film, I would give it a 8 out of 10. While it does have its story and some character problems, their is still a good chunk of stuff to appreciate here and I do recommend that people check this one out.",
