Once upon a time, there was a little calf, separated from her herd. She bleated desperately for her mother, but no one heard her. No one but a young hyena male who had been sent scouting across the savanna. "Little calf, what are you doing all alone, so far away from the herd?" he asked her, in mock sympathy. The calf was afraid of the hyena, and shivered in fear, but when she heard his kind words, she came closer. "I was chasing butterflies." she said, "and when I looked again they were all gone." The hyena laughed, in its high pitched shrieking hyena laugh, "Oh boy, what a luck this is, it is a great day." and kept laughing despite the calfs perplexed look. "Why are you laughing, I am all alone and scared!" she asked. He however kept laughing and cheering. "Oh no, don't you see, it's a blessing. You have been sent to us from the lords of the savannah, so we shall not go hungry today. I have never found prey before, when they sent me out to look, you are my first catch!" The calf started crying. "No! please, I don't want to be eaten, I'm too young to die!" and bleated out for her mother. There the hyena got angry. "Silence!" he barked. "Stop your pathetic bleatings, or I shall rip out your throat where you stand and drag your bleeding carcass back to our pack!" There the calf stopped crying, but it still whimpered and looked upon the hyena boy with wide open scared eyes. "There, that's much better!" he spoke, and moved closer, his teeth bared to make sure she saw he was not joking. "Now move, this way. I shall present you to our pack so they can compliment on my catch." The calf started moving, and the hyena followed, sniffing the air behind her, for he disported himself. Her scent of fear and despair in his nose made his mouth water. Soon later they came upon another pack member, a female who was slightly older than the boy. She greeted him laughing and made fun of the calf. "What have you found there, such a tasty morsel. Come, let me help you drag it back to our pack, so it doesn't run away from you." The calf heard her and made a fearful step away, but the hyena boy snarled at his sister and bared his fangs. "Back off, sister, she is mine!" he barked, as he knew well that she just wanted to take away his first prey and present it as her own. "Relax, relax." she answered and laughed her hyena laugh. "I was just kidding. But better watch her, if she runs away from you, she is mine!" The calf could tell that the female would not hesitate to sink her fangs in her throat to claim her as her own. From now on, she kept close to the boy, so close that he could almost reach her little tail with his snout, and he had to compose himself, not to snap at her and take her between his teeth. "That is right, stay close to me, you are safer that way!" he told her, and gulped down his slobber, indulging into her pleasant scent that made his mouth water. Finally they arrived at the pack. There they were greeted with cheer, and other hyenas run around them barking, as they went to meet the chieftain. She was a strong and regal female, ruling her pack with both love and an iron fist. Her gaze fell on the little calf and her mouth watered, but she stood firm and waited for the boy and his sister to step forth, the calf between them. "Well done!" she spoke. "Now finish the deed, then give us our share, and then we shall all feast on this lovely meal you brought us." The boy bowed and turned towards the calf, licking his lips. "Thank you little one, you made this a proud day for me." he spoke. "In return I shall grant you a swift death, you will feel not a thing." She however trembled. "No, please, don't kill me. I don't want to die!" The boy glanced at his sister, then the clan mother. All looked at him, expecting him to do what a hyena does. "I can't let you go even if I wanted. A swift death is all I can offer you." She looked around, at the many maws waiting to feast on her, and suddenly defiance awoke in the little calf. "I don't want a swift death from you." she said. "What would be the point, you could have killed me right there where you found me." The boy sighed. "As you wish. I shall let you life. But we will still feast on you. This way you shall suffer pain that you can barely imagine. Only the moment the last bite is taken out of you shall your screams end, and then there will be nothing left of you." The other hyenas laughed at that. "That's the way, take her like a real hyena." his father encouraged him, and he licked his lips and circled around the scared little calf. The carf trembled and shivered, but she could not flee, surrounded by the many hungry predators. She closed her eyes, but after a moment, feeling the boys breath on her rump, next to her tail, she opened them once more and could not look away. 'Nothing left of her' - she understood the words, but she could not imagine how that could be. It was harder to imagine than death itself, just to be removed altogether. She didn't think it was possible. Surely they were joking. Then however the boy opened his jaws and clenched them into her belly, just inside of her thigh, where her skin was thin and vulnerable and no bone could hinder the beasts teeth. She screamed as she felt his teeth pinch her fur, clench on the fold of tender calf skin he had taken between his jaws. It was like no pain she felt before and she thought there could be no pain beyond. She was wrong. The hyena boy had merely tasted a drop of her blood, and was just positioning himself to take his first bite. Then she felt his paws on her rear, claws digging into her rump, but only to give him leverage. Once he had that, the sensation was as if she was being ripped apart. Piercing hot, tearing, but it was nothing compared to sensation as her skin and flesh gave way and her belly tore open like an old rag being ripped to shreds. The poor calf heard the sickening wet sound of her belly being torn, even though her shrieking cry seemed to have deafened all other sounds. On shaking legs she stood, as the boy let go of her for merely a second, left behind a ragged blood red hole in her. He chewed, and gulped. He licked his blood stained lips as he savoured her taste. Then the hyena boy met her desperate gaze with a hungry smile. "Your taste is exquisite!" he told her. "Have my thanks for being such a delicious meal." The calf could not answer him. She gasped for air, stared back at that gaping hole in her that pained her so. The hyenas hunger however was not stilled. He placed his paws on her rump almost gently, then stuck his snout into the hole he had made. The calf tensed in shock as she felt his jaws deep inside her touch things that were never meant to be touched. Then he pulled out once again. Slowly this time, without force he pulled, but in his maw he dragged her entrails with him. The calf saw that and felt her guts pulled out, and she screamed loud, but she couldn't do a thing. All the slimy things that had been in her belly came out and she felt them drop on the dusty floor beneath. That was the moment all the hyenas around had waited for. It did not matter that the little calf bleated and begged, whimpered and screamed, they were hungry and thirsted for her blood. Two grabbed her front legs and two grabbed her back legs. Two sank their teeth into her sides and one bit her in the throat. But the hyena boy's sister joined her brother and picked up the guts that dangled out of the little calf's tummy. She screamed once more for her mommy, as she felt the many hyena's teeth tear on her, but her herd was far away and could not hear her. The calf felt the hyenas pull on her limbs, and she pulled back as much as she could, even though their pointy teeth and clenched fangs bit her badly. But she was not strong enough. The hyenas were stronger and pulled her this way and that way, while the boy and his sister gorged themselves on her spilled guts. Her legs broke between their maws like twigs that were trampled upon and then the little calf ripped right in two in the middle, as the hyenas pulled in opposite sides. The calf could not feel her legs anymore, nor her belly or anything below her chest. She screamed, but her scream drowned in the cheerful feasting of the many predators. And then she saw them take what had been her other half, rip it to many pieces and swallow it down, faster than one can say "gulp". That moment the little calf understood what the hyena boy had spoken the truth. They really weren't going to leave anything of her. No matter if it was her bones, her flesh, her guts or her blood, they were eating it all until there was nothing left. And really, as she watched them eat her tail half, the others were already tearing apart what was left of her. One ripped her leg of at the shoulder, one ripped out her throat, then another one dove its fangs into her chest and ripped out her heart. Each bite they took from her left a mortal wound now, yet they didn't let her die. They ate faster than death. All the little calf could do was watch it happen with wide eyes, then >snap< someone ripped her neck apart and she could no longer feel what the others were doing to her. She only saw one hyena, the mother, the chieftain, the queen. She placed what was left of her on the ground and chuckled. "What a tasty morsel you were. Look, there is nothing left of you now but your head. I am proud of my son for he brought a worthy meal. Now watch again as I eat the rest of you." The little calf trembled, but only her eyes could show. The hyena gave her a kiss, but bit hard and left the calf without a nose or teeth or tongue. She blinked as the hyenas jaws snapped shut once more, and thus she couldn't see her head burst between those massive fangs, she also missed the sight of the hyena chew gulp down, because she couldn't open her eyes anymore. Because there were no eyes, no ears, no nose, no legs to walk on, no fur to feel the savannah's gentle breeze. There was nothing left of the little calf.
