The breakfast table had everything they would hope for out of a simple place, muffins, jam and bread, cereal, and fresh squeezed juice. The two pigs naturally were ready to take hold of as much as they could, while Rupert modestly took a muffin and bowl of cereal.\n\nAs they sat down at their table, Cedric asked them. “Do you boys have any idea of what you want to do today?”\n\n“I was thinking it would be fun to take a stroll along the stream,” said Rupert.\n\n“That will take too long Rupert,” said Podgy, “How about we paddle in the stream instead?”\n\n“We didn’t bring a boat, so I suppose you mean getting our feet wet?” wondered Cedric, “That kind of depends on how cold the water is.”\n\n“Maybe if we walked far enough up the stream where no one would see us, we could do a little more than paddling,” suggested Rupert with a wink.\n\n“You don’t mean what I think you mean, do you?” wondered Podgy.\n\nJust then they heard a zap from outside followed by shout of glee from a familiar voice, “It works!”\n\n“Is it just me, or was that the Professor?” asked Cedric.\n\n“It sure sounded like him,” said Podgy.\n\n“If it is the Professor, I wonder what he is doing here?” asked Rupert, “I’ll go have a look.”\n\n“But Rupert, we’re not done with breakfast,” said Podgy.\n\n“Don’t worry Podgy, I’ll be back in time for your fourth course,” said Rupert as he got up to go outside.\n\nAs Rupert went through the door to the back yard, sure enough it was the Professor was outside with a familiar machine, “Hello Professor, what brings you out this way?”\n\nThe Professor was startled, “Rupert, my boy!” he said, “I don’t suppose you are here on holiday too?”\n\n“I sure am,” said Rupert, “I figured you would have stayed in town for the bake sale.”\n\n“Oh I would have loved to,” said the Professor, “However I have thought it would instead be best to test out a new invention with an old one, and I didn’t feel it best to do this in a place where people might recognize my activities.”\n\n“No wonder, that’s the big small machine that shrunk me and Podgy and later turned Podgy into a giant,” said Rupert.\n\n“And of course you will remember Rupert,” said the Professor, “Before you came outside, I was just testing it on that tree over there.”\n\n“You mean the one with the big plum on it?” asked Rupert, “Interesting your machine only made that one branch with the plum grow in size and not the whole tree.”\n\n“That’s because I wrapped the branch with a grounding band,” said the Professor as he picked up a rubber band like item, “This allows for only one part of something to grow or shrink in size. All you do is wrap this band around the edge of the area you want to change the size of, and then point the big small machine at that section and the energy beam will only alter that one part.”\n\n“Fascinating,” said Rupert as he took a hold of the band, “So then if you want one thing bigger than the rest, you just wrap this around that part and then aim the big small machine at it?”\n\n“Bigger or smaller, here, I’ll demonstrate,” said the Professor as he picked up one of the trophies he brought from his home and set it on the ground, “First I’ll make this trophy larger without using the band.” He aimed the big small machine at the trophy and increased the size of it to about two meters. \n\n“And now what we will do is shrink everything except for the decorative atom figure on the top,” he wrapped a grounding band around the stem holding up the atom figure, turned the dial on the machine to small, and fired a beam at the part below the atom figure, shrinking it back to it’s original size while the atom figure on the top remained larger.\n\n“Incredible,” said Rupert, “do the grounding bands work on anything?”\n\n“Anything you want Rupert,” said the Professor.\n\nJust then Cedric and Podgy came outside, “Rupert, are you still out here?” asked Cedric, “Oh, hello Professor!”\n\n“Egad, Mr. Pig and Podgy, I’m happy to see you as well,” said the Professor, “I was just demonstrating before Rupert a new invention of mine.”\n\n“That’s not a new invention, that’s the big small machine,” said Podgy.\n\n“Actually Podgy, the new invention is something you use with the big small machine,” said Rupert as he picked up a grounding band and showed Podgy, “You wrap this around the one thing you want to grow or shrink and only that part changes size, like that plum on that tree over there.”\n\n“Mmmm, if only I knew I wouldn’t be done with breakfast,” said Podgy.\n\n“Tell me you three, do you think you could stay here and watch my machine for a while?” asked the Professor, “I haven’t had breakfast yet myself and I also need to go upstairs and finish some notes for my journal.”\n\n“Well, my dad hasn’t woken up yet I don’t think, we might be stuck here for a while anyway,” said Rupert, “I suppose unless the pigs have plans.”\n\n“Sure, of course we will, is that alright Podgy?” asked Cedric.\n\n“I guess so,” said Podgy.\n\n“Good,” said the Professor, “Tell you what Mr. Pig, could you help me move the machine over behind those bushes so that it’s less visible? I wouldn’t want the rest of the guests to crowd around my work.”\n\n“Certainly,” said Cedric as he and the Professor picked up the machine and moved it out of sight on the other side of the nearby bushes with Rupert and Podgy following behind with the Professor’s other belongings in tow. They set down the machine in a place along the edge of the nearby wood where there was a clearing toward the river.\n\n“This should be a good spot,” said the Professor, “Now I promise I won’t be long, but I might say I’m awfully hungry. I wonder if there are any muffins left?”\n\n“You’ll have to ask them that question,” said Rupert, looking at the pigs.\n\nThe Professor giggled as he left them. Cedric meanwhile thought that he should check on Mr. Bear, “You boys excuse me for a moment, I’m going to see if Rupert’s dad is awake yet.”\n\n“Sure Mr. Pig,” said Rupert.\n\nAs Cedric left Rupert and Podgy with the big small machine, Podgy walked over to a nearby tree and sat beside it, “Oh Rupert, why did you sign me up for this?” he asked, “This is going to get boring too quickly.”\n\n“It doesn’t have to be boring,” said Rupert as he sat down besides Podgy’s feet, “We can always play a game while we wait.”\n\n“You mean Nose on Toes?” asked Podgy excitedly at first, but then lost enthusiasm, “Nah, you’re too good at that game.”\n\n“Actually Podgy, I was thinking about playing with your feet another way,” said Rupert as he looked at the big small machine, “You know, your feet would be a lot more fun to play with if they were bigger.”\n\n“Bigger?” wondered Podgy, “How big do you want my feet to be?”\n\n“You’ll see,” said Rupert as he got up, “Take off your shoes and socks.”\n\nPodgy did as he was told as Rupert walked over to the big small machine to switch the dial over to big, and then grabbed a couple of grounding bands. He then sat down by Podgy and wrapped the bands around Podgy’s ankles, “Now put your feet together and out towards the machine.”\n\n“Okay,” said Podgy, “I hope you know what you are doing.”\n\n“Of course I am,” said Rupert as he went back to the machine and aimed the machine at Podgy’s feet, “Hold still.”\n\nRupert pressed the button to fire the beam, and soon enough Podgy’s feet grew larger and larger. Once they were about the same height as Rupert from heel to toe, Rupert let go of the button, “Perfect!”\n\n“Perfect?” wondered Podgy as he tried to lift up a foot, “Rupert, you made my feet so big they are as tall as you are, and they are so heavy I can’t move.”\n\n“Don’t worry Podgy, I’ll return your feet to normal size when I’m done playing,” said Rupert as he walked up to Podgy’s enormous feet to have a feel.\n\nThe smell of the enlarged feet was a lot stronger, apparently the big small machine also boosted the odor of anything it enlarged. As they sat down at their table, Cedric asked them.  “Do you boys have any idea of what you want to do today?”

“I was thinking it would be fun to take a stroll along the stream,” said Rupert.

“That will take too long Rupert,” said Podgy, “How about we paddle in the stream instead?”

“We didn’t bring a boat, so I suppose you mean getting our feet wet?” wondered Cedric, “That kind of depends on how cold the water is.”

“Maybe if we walked far enough up the stream where no one would see us, we could do a little more than paddling,” suggested Rupert with a wink.

“You don’t mean what I think you mean, do you?” wondered Podgy.

Just then they heard a zap from outside followed by shout of glee from a familiar voice, “It works!”

“Is it just me, or was that the Professor?” asked Cedric.

“It sure sounded like him,” said Podgy.

“If it is the Professor, I wonder what he is doing here?” asked Rupert, “I’ll go have a look.”

“But Rupert, we’re not done with breakfast,” said Podgy.

As Rupert went through the door to the back yard, sure enough it was the Professor was outside with a familiar machine, “Hello Professor, what brings you out this way?”

The Professor was startled, “Rupert, my boy!” he said, “I don’t suppose you are here on holiday too?”

“I sure am,” said Rupert, “I figured you would have stayed in town for the bake sale.”

“Oh I would have loved to,” said the Professor, “However I have thought it would instead be best to test out a new invention with an old one, and I didn’t feel it best to do this in a place where people might recognize my activities.”

“No wonder, that’s the big small machine that shrunk me and Podgy and later turned Podgy into a giant,” said Rupert.

“And of course you will remember Rupert,” said the Professor, “Before you came outside, I was just testing it on that tree over there.”

“You mean the one with the big plum on it?” asked Rupert, “Interesting your machine only made that one branch with the plum grow in size and not the whole tree.”

“That’s because I wrapped the branch with a grounding band,” said the Professor as he picked up a rubber band like item, “This allows for only one part of something to grow or shrink in size.  All you do is wrap this band around the edge of the area you want to change the size of, and then point the big small machine at that section and the energy beam will only alter that one part.”

“Fascinating,” said Rupert as he took a hold of the band, “So then if you want one thing bigger than the rest, you just wrap this around that part and then aim the big small machine at it?”

“Bigger or smaller, here, I’ll demonstrate,” said the Professor as he picked up one of the trophies he brought from his home and set it on the ground, “First I’ll make this trophy larger without using the band.”  He aimed the big small machine at the trophy and increased the size of it to about two meters.  

“And now what we will do is shrink everything except for the decorative atom figure on the top,” he wrapped a grounding band around the stem holding up the atom figure, turned the dial on the machine to small, and fired a beam at the part below the atom figure, shrinking it back to it’s original size while the atom figure on the top remained larger.

“Incredible,” said Rupert, “do the grounding bands work on anything?”

“Anything you want Rupert,” said the Professor.

Just then Cedric and Podgy came outside, “Rupert, are you still out here?” asked Cedric, “Oh, hello Professor!”

“Egad, Mr. Pig and Podgy, I’m happy to see you as well,” said the Professor, “I was just demonstrating before Rupert a new invention of mine.”

“That’s not a new invention, that’s the big small machine,” said Podgy.

“Actually Podgy, the new invention is something you use with the big small machine,” said Rupert as he picked up a grounding band and showed Podgy, “You wrap this around the one thing you want to grow or shrink and only that part changes size, like that plum on that tree over there.”

“Mmmm, if only I knew I wouldn’t be done with breakfast,” said Podgy.

“Tell me you three, do you think you could stay here and watch my machine for a while?” asked the Professor,  “I haven’t had breakfast yet myself and I also need to go upstairs and finish some notes for my journal.”

“Well, my dad hasn’t woken up yet I don’t think, we might be stuck here for a while anyway,” said Rupert, “I suppose unless the pigs have plans.”

“Sure, of course we will, is that alright Podgy?” asked Cedric.

“I guess so,” said Podgy.

“Good,” said the Professor, “Tell you what Mr. Pig, could you help me move the machine over behind those bushes so that it’s less visible?  I wouldn’t want the rest of the guests to crowd around my work.”

“Certainly,” said Cedric as he and the Professor picked up the machine and moved it out of sight on the other side of the nearby bushes with Rupert and Podgy following behind with the Professor’s other belongings in tow.  They set down the machine in a place along the edge of the nearby wood where there was a clearing toward the river.

“This should be a good spot,” said the Professor, “Now I promise I won’t be long, but I might say I’m awfully hungry.  I wonder if there are any muffins left?”

“You’ll have to ask them that question,” said Rupert, looking at the pigs.

The Professor giggled as he left them.  Cedric meanwhile thought that he should check on Mr. Bear, “You boys excuse me for a moment, I’m going to see if Rupert’s dad is awake yet.”

“Sure Mr. Pig,” said Rupert.

As Cedric left Rupert and Podgy with the big small machine, Podgy walked over to a nearby tree and sat beside it, “Oh Rupert, why did you sign me up for this?” he asked, “This is going to get boring too quickly.”

“It doesn’t have to be boring,” said Rupert as he sat down besides Podgy’s feet, “We can always play a game while we wait.”

“You mean Nose on Toes?” asked Podgy excitedly at first, but then lost enthusiasm, “Nah, you’re too good at that game.”

“Actually Podgy, I was thinking about playing with your feet another way,” said Rupert as he looked at the big small machine, “You know, your feet would be a lot more fun to play with if they were bigger.”

“Okay,” said Podgy, “I hope you know what you are doing.”

“Of course I am,” said Rupert as he went back to the machine and aimed the machine at Podgy’s feet, “Hold still.”

Rupert pressed the button to fire the beam, and soon enough Podgy’s feet grew larger and larger.  Once they were about the same height as Rupert from heel to toe, Rupert let go of the button, “Perfect!”
