did every day over Azshara, and in turn Drenan stretched his arms above his head with a deep yawn. He stared out the window somewhat sadly as he collected his thoughts. Fifteen years since she’d been born, and all too soon she was about to head out on her own. As of today, she would be considered an adult among the tauren, and he would no longer be required to take care of her. They had been through so much over the years, and now he would be considered obsolete.\n\n\tDrenan sighed audibly and attempted a smile to himself as he laid back on his pillow, his thoughts turning to the years that had passed. Fights, apologies, gifts, troubles, everything led up to this day. He truly did not wish for her to go, but there was nothing he could do. He’d devoted his life entirely to his daughter. His journeys for the Horde were all to keep her safe and living comfortably, and yet he could never bear to find another mate. There was no one in his mind who could take her mother’s place, even though he knew she probably needed a mother figure in her life. The shamans had done her a great service over the latest few years in training her, and the females among them were sublime role models. He had confidence that he’d done the best he could, and the rest was up to her.\n\n\tAs his reverie ended, the thought of his mateless life lingered. As a male he naturally had his needs, but had always been careful to keep to himself while Lyrah was out. This morning would be the last she would live there, and in turn he figured he’d earned the ability, as the urge came to him, to enjoy himself a bit prematurely. Rolling on his side he reached down to open a bedside drawer and rummage through a series of books and scrolls he’d collected of mature material in search of one in particular. He’d purchased it years before on his travels, and he could admit gently to himself of a fondness for the curvaceous women of Pandaria. \n\n“Shit,” he murmured under his breath, unable to find the scroll. It was seldom he removed them from the drawer, but it was not out of the realm of possibility that it could be elsewhere in the house. With an agitated sigh he abandoned his little quest, looking down in defeat at the tent that had cropped up overnight beneath his leathers. For posterity he reached to the back of his door and pulled a set of household robes over his head before he stepped out of his room and began to walk down the hall toward the stairs. Their home was not enormous to a tauren, though a human might find it more akin to a high-ceilinged guild hall.\n\nNormally he would head straight downstairs for breakfast, but as he stepped by his daughter’s doorway he gave pause. His hearing had been somewhat dulled during the wars, but ever-so-faintly he felt he caught a wisp of Lyrah’s voice, albeit he had no knowledge of what she was saying. He furrowed his brow in concern as he lightly stepped closer to her door, and with his ear against the wood he caught what sounded like a sharp squeak of pain.\n\n“Lyrah!” he called in concern and grasped her doorknob to fling her door open. “Are you alrigh-“\n\nHis sentence was cut short by the sight before him. His jaw slackened and his expression melted into neutrality as he processed the view of his newly-adult daughter, spread-eagled on her bed with his missing scroll splayed next to her and her prized flute pressed between her legs against her linen, full-body pajamas. At his cry, Lyrah’s eyes shot toward the door and widened in immediate surprise, but before either party could say a word Drenan stepped back, slammed the door shut, and hurried himself down the stairs.\n\n\tBreakfast was completely ready by the time Lyrah came down the stairs in full shamanic dress. Her father’s back was to her as he sat on a cushion on the floor in front of the house’s fireplace. He seemed to take no immediate notice of her as he ate, and without a word she tiptoed around him, poured a bowl of stew he’d made, and sat down next to him to eat. \n\nShe hesitated at the first spoonful while she indirectly eyed her father, who still made no move to acknowledge at her. “Dad…?” she piped up quietly.\n\n“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” he asked brightly between spoonfuls of stew, eyes on the fire.\n\n“Everything… I mean, how’d you sleep?” she asked back timidly.\n\n“Peacefully, thankfully.” Still no signs.\n\nThe young woman took a bite and swallowed hard. A long moment of silence passed before she spoke again. “Hey, I’m sorry-“\n\nHe was quick to cut her off. “No need to be sorry. You’re a grown woman. You have the right to do as you please. If anything, I should be sorry for barging in. I misunderstood what I heard.”\n\nShe let out a gentle sigh of relief at this. “Well, I’m sorry I took your scroll at least. It wasn’t right.”\n\nHis cheeks seemed to fill with a bit of color at her words, though still he just stared forward. “No need. You may keep it if you wish.”\n\nShe nearly choked on her stew at this, her own cheeks flushing. “I mean… I couldn’t…!”\n\n“Consider it a parting gift. You can bring me back another one someday,” he added with a soft chuckle.\n\nShe flushed all the more, but simply nodded. “Y-yeah, sure.” The rest of the meal lasted in silence. Lyrah finished quickly, and she couldn’t help but nudge her father as she did. “Thanks for not being mad, dad.” Drenan quietly nodded in response as she gently pressed her hand against his thigh to brace herself to stand, and from behind she gave him a warm, loving hug before hopping back off to her room to gather her things.\n\nAs her door closed, Drenan let out a heavy sigh of relief. Finally he looked from the fire down to his own lap. His stew was nearly gone, yet his powerful tent from his sleep had not disappeared. The image of his own daughter was constantly replaying in his mind, and he found he could not shake it no matter how he tried. Finally, the Farseer’s words came back to him, and he felt he understood exactly what they meant. He was very unsure as to whether he was relieved now, or incredibly disheartened, that his daughter was leaving.\n\n* * * * * 4\n\n\t“One second, just hold on!” Drenan called as he hurriedly stepped out of the sunken pool and wrapped a cloth towel around his waist. The thumping knock on the door would not cease, and Drenan found himself more than disgruntled this particular day. He flipped a small metal slit on the door to look through and find none other than Farseer Keldah. “Great, just what I needed,” he mumbled under his breath before opening the door halfway to keep himself more decent. “Farseer. Can I help you?” he asked somewhat stiffly.\n\n\tKeldah was no less stiff as he bowed his head. “Not at all. I was merely coming by to see if Lyrah had been by. I had heard she’d been seen in Orgrimmar this morning.”\n\n\tDrenan crinkled his brow. “I had not heard this, nor has she been here.”\n\n\t“I see,” Keldah remarked and took a skeptical glance into Drenan’s home past him. “Well, if she does stop by, do tell her I said hello and was curious as to how much she’s been practicing. Three years is a long time to go without tutelage.”\n\n\tDrenan nodded and eyed the shaman warily. “I’ll tell her if she comes by. Anything else?”\n\n\t“Yes, actually. If she does come by, ensure that should she require anything else on her travels, I would be happy to oblige.”\n\n\tAt this, Drenan’s nostrils flared gently as his gaze narrowed into a glare. “You are out of line, shaman. Leave.”\n\n\tKeldah hardly seemed fazed, yet he spoke as if he were falsely surprised by Drenan’s hostility. “Oh? I do not understand.”\n\n\tDrenan took a firm step over the threshold of his door. “You’ve come by one too many times over the years, and every time I see you I always think it is too soon. I trust my daughter and her faith in her teachers, but I do not trust you. Your interest is misplaced.”\n\n\tThe shaman sighed. “I have been nothing but good to your daughter. It is you I have always been more concerned for. I saw it in your eye when she was born, and if nothing else it has gotten worse. You are alone, and always will be unless you let your daughter go.”\n\n\tAnother step. “I choose my own path and always have. I chose to devote my time to Lyrah, and I have every confidence in her that she is doing just fine without me. Either way, it’s none of your godsdamn business, so leave before I force you.” The larger tauren’s hand slipped to the edge of the door frame where a sizeable, grandly-decorated warhammer leaned against the wall out of the shaman’s view. Drenan had not had to defend his home in years, but he still had a great deal of fight in him, and he was certainly not in poor health.\n\n\tThe shaman backpedaled softly as he noticed the gesture. “Very well. This has been your second warning,” he added before turning and beginning his trek toward the open ridges.\n\n\tThe younger male slammed his door shut and barred it before he let out an exhausted sigh. “Fool, he knows nothing of anything,” he found himself murmuring once again. Drenan was too private to like the shaman’s nosy disposition, but he couldn’t deny a bit of truth in the man’s words. Not once had he yet taken a mate since his daughter left their home – hell, even after his daughter was born he had abstained – and the loneliness had been taking its toll. He no longer served the Sunwalkers, though occasionally he would be called out for assistance at nearby settlements. He had no desire or interest to venture among any of the big cities, and despite the occasional venture into the wilderness, he spent most of his time simply at his home doing little more than exercising, reading, and generally just plain existing. He felt he had little purpose anymore without someone to take care of, but not just anyone would do.\n\nHis daughter kept him going even if she wasn’t around. Their parting had been left somewhat awkward considering the events from the morning that day, and in turn he seldom received any letters or mail from her at all. Occasionally he would send her a letter wishing her well, though he wondered if any of them had even gotten to her without any response. Still, he did not doubt her. He knew in his heart that she was still out there, and he always silently hoped that she might return. This was not the first supposed sighting of her in Orgrimmar, and in turn he held no genuine hope that she would come.\n\nWhat remained even more heavily embedded in his mind was the sight of her that morning of her departure. To his own surprise, he found himself thinking about it more frequently than expected, and he had even found it to be a more pleasurable memory than any of his scrolls or books could achieve. He had always loved his daughter dearly, but before that morning he had never thought of her as a sexual being. She was too young, and even then he was silently surprised to find out that she knew how to take care of her own needs. The two had always been fairly open, even during her moody years, but she had never brought up the subject of sex, and in response he hadn’t either. Indeed she was a spitting image of her mother, and the sight reminded him of how his late wife had looked so very long ago.\n\nAll these thoughts circled his mind as he cast his towel aside yet again to sink back into the naturally-fed, enclosed pool at the back of his home. His head lolled back as he let the heat of the water relax his muscles, and within moments the thoughts had waned and lulled him into a peaceful calm. That is, until another rap at the door brought him back from his reverie.\n\n“Not him again,” he grumbled to himself. He’d figured either it was merely the Farseer to bug him again, or Keldah had found Lyrah and escorted her back, which would make for a rather bittersweet reunion in his mind. In his angry haste he left his towel behind and strode nude to the door, unbarring it and keeping his lower half hidden behind the door as he swung it open part of the way. “What now-“\n\nHis sentence was cut short as the door was shoved roughly open from the other side by the newcomer. The figure leapt through the air and latched onto Drenan full-body before he could react, and he was just about to start swinging when the figure spoke excitedly into his ear, “Dad! I’m home!”\n\n* * * * * 5\n\nDrenan immediately froze in response as Lyrah pulled her head back to look at him with the widest smile upon her face. She looked the same as ever with her chocolate brown fur and inherited azure eyes, yet there is much that had changed about her in the past three years. Lyrah had grown at least a foot, though she still stood two feet shorter than her father. Her arms and legs were clearly muscular from heavy combat, though her belly showed that she had kept herself well-fed over the years. She wore her own special shaman’s garb now with shoulder pads covered in deep blue feathers to match her eyes, and such decorum trailed down to a loosely-held chestpiece that kept her now-fully-developed breasts in check. Her soft-looking and curvy midriff was exposed between her chest piece and blue-feathered skirt, the latter of which dropped to just above her knees. “How’ve you been, dad? It’s been forever!”\n\nHer words brought him out of his shock, and without thinking he wrapped both of his burly arms around her in a heavy bear hug, burying his muzzle into her neck. “Sweetheart, it’s been too long!” The elder tauren clenched back a number of conflicted emotions as they hugged. They weren’t important at that moment. “It has been a boring three years, but I’ve managed. Come! Sit! I’ll get you something to eat.”\n\nThe young woman smiled and giggled happily, but as they pulled back from the hug both tauren looked downward. It had been entirely subconscious, but the naked male’s manhood had brought itself to full mast during their hug, and in turn it hovered just below his daughter’s rump as she’d leapt upon him. Her cheeks flushed deeply with color upon the realization, and Drenan suddenly jerked backwards. Lyrah let go of him and landed with ease on her hooves, but her gaze was impossibly drawn to her father as he turned and strode as quickly, but coolly, as possible away from her, down the hall, and out of sight. “S-sorry!” she called after him, though made no move to follow. Unsure of what to do with herself, she took a seat on a cushion near the fire, crossed her legs, and tucked her hands firmly into her lap, breathing heavily.\n\nA few minutes later Drenan returned wearing a normal pair of deep blue leathered pants and a vest of the same color. It had been clear that he’d been trying to calm himself as well, and to the careful eye it would be easy to notice how firmly that particular pair of pants kept him in check. Drenan broke the silence with a rumbling chuckle. “It’s alright, sweetheart. You just caught me at a bad time. I’m just glad you’re home.” The two exchanged smiles as the male moved into their kitchen before returning with a plate of smoked venison. He sat the tray down in front of her and sat down next to her to hug his daughter yet again. “So, tell me, what all have you been up to? I want to hear it all.”\n\nLyrah nodded and accepted the venison hungrily as she began to talk. Drenan couldn’t help but chuckle a bit as he watched. She’d hardly changed at all. “Well, I’fe been pretty mufh efrywhere,” she started before a quick swallow. “I’ve been almost everywhere in Kalimdor now, and the druids down in Silithus welcomed my help. I’ve gotten all the way through Ahn’Qiraj, gotten to meet all sorts of people, and I even got to go through the dark portal! Nagrand is gorgeous!”\n\nDrenan nodded with honest interest. “Did you happen to go to Telaa at all? I made some good friends there once.”\n\nShe nodded happily after another bite. “Do you know a ‘Zani’? I think that’s what he called himself.”\n\nThe larger tauren clapped his hands thunderously together. “Yeah! Zan’s a very close friend. Him and I fended off a lot of Alliance out there.”\n\n“He was super-nice, and he even helped show me the way to the Netherstorm. I didn’t get to meet his daughter, but he talked about her a lot.”\n\n“He always did. He’s a good man, but he’s got his demons he’s been working through.”\n\nLyrah nodded after another swallow and continued her stories. Hours went by as the pair sat and talked. Lyrah would bring up a story and Drenan would chip in however he could, and things felt like that had been before she’d left. By the time the sun had set, the two were laughing and hugging as if she’d never left.\n\nAfter a while, Drenan let out a heavy yawn. “By the Earthmother, the sun was here a minute ago.”\n\nLyrah nodded and laughed softly. “Aww, you got soft, old man!” she quipped and elbowed his ribs. “I don’t usually sleep until the moon’s real high.”\n\n“No more bedtime has spoiled you,” he joked back and patted her shoulder. “I may not be staying up much longer myself. Your room’s just like you left it though whenever you’re ready.” He’d gotten to his feet when familiar memories hit him once again, and he couldn’t resist adding, “Oh, and I’ll make sure not to wake you in the morning. I learned my lesson,” he offered with a light chuckle.\n\nLyrah’s cheeks immediately flushed as she forced a small chuckle of her own. “Yeah… um, actually dad, I wouldn’t mind a wakeup call after sunrise if that’s okay?”\n\n“Oh? What for?”\n\nShe looked down to the floor for a brief moment to collect herself. “I kinda miss it. You used to wake me up every day.”\n\n“If you insist,” he returned genuinely as he leaned down to his seated daughter and wrapped her in an enormous, loving hug. “You can stay as long as you like, and if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask, okay?”\n\nShe smiled and leaned into her father while she reached up and tenderly squeezed his bulky forearms. “Promise.” As the male broke the hug and turned to leave, Lyrah called out to him. “Thanks for everything, dad! I love you!”\n\nDrenan smiled to himself and waved without looking behind him. “Love you too, sweetheart. Rest easy tonight.”\n\nAs Drenan’s door closed, the male exhaled heavily and happily. It had been the best time he’d had with Lyrah in a very long time, though now that she was out of sight his more taboo feelings for her rushed back into his mind and body. He wouldn’t be going to bed just yet.\n\nIn the living room, Lyrah sat for a long time thinking about her father. Their parting had not been a sour one, but she had missed him dearly during her absence and silently lamented not returning his letters. She had been kept busy most days with work for the Horde, and she’d even gone about saving more than one innocent over the years. Still, she’d always thought of Drenan and how much she missed him, and despite the awkwardness of their departure, his intrusion, in her mind, had not been entirely unwelcome.\n\nThe memory of him walking in on her returned to her on a nightly basis, for that matter, and when she was allowed a private night out in the wilderness she would pull that same, wonderful flute from her bag and indulge herself as she had when she’d been caught, almost hoping she’d be caught again. She was nearly caught multiple times, but each time she was quick to dress and fend off intruders. They weren’t Drenan, so they weren’t welcome.\n\nAfter her journeys, she felt no shame in such thoughts for her father. He’d been the only male she’d ever loved from day one of her life, and this added desire for him merely added to her longing to return home to him. She’d seen many other faces on her travels, and in turn she’d met others like her who found pleasure with their elders. It was more common than she’d ever imagined, but there were none who were outwardly public about their actions. Zani, or Zan as he’d called him, was one of the few who outwardly professed his love for his daughter who loved him just as much in return, though their story proved less fortunate than most she’d heard.\n\nThese thoughts and memories swirled in her mind as she stared at the living room fire, her legs spread and skirt flipped upward to absorb its loving warmth. She truly did not care if her father found her, though she knew he respected her privacy too much to barge in. Neither knew what the other was up to, yet both father and daughter laid in their respective parts of the house and indulged their carnal desires at the thought of each other. As Drenan neared his finish, he quickly grabbed a copper bar he’d forged ages ago and bit down to keep himself quiet. Lyrah covered her own mouth as her back arched with her finish, and as the pleasurable waves subsided Lyrah trudged weakly off to her room. Curiosity caused her to detour slightly to listen at her father’s door, yet the only hint of his climax was a sudden, sharp squeak of the bed. The young woman bit her lip in thought as she went to her room and shut the door, suddenly wondering if her father had ever found another mate. The topic had not come up in conversation, but the thought caused an intense jealousy to run through her.\n\n“Slut,” she murmured at the thought of the imaginary woman. She did her best to push the sour thoughts away and return them to her father as she laid down on her bed after having thrown her shamanic garb on a nearby chair. She’d wanted to try sleeping naked for ages, but the wilderness, nor any inn she’d found, was comfortable or safe enough for her liking to try it. The sheets enveloped her furred body, and within minutes she was out cold and snoring lightly.\n\n","writing_bbcode_parsed":" The sun rose as it did every day over Azshara, and in turn Drenan stretched his arms above his head with a deep yawn. He stared out the window somewhat sadly as he collected his thoughts. Fifteen years since she’d been born, and all too soon she was about to head out on her own. As of today, she would be considered an adult among the tauren, and he would no longer be required to take care of her. They had been through so much over the years, and now he would be considered obsolete.

\tDrenan sighed audibly and attempted a smile to himself as he laid back on his pillow, his thoughts turning to the years that had passed. He had confidence that he’d done the best he could, and the rest was up to her.

\tAs his reverie ended, the thought of his mateless life lingered.

“Shit,” he murmured under his breath, unable to find the scroll. Their home was not enormous to a tauren, though a human might find it more akin to a high-ceilinged guild hall.

Normally he would head straight downstairs for breakfast, but as he stepped by his daughter’s doorway he gave pause. His hearing had been somewhat dulled during the wars, but ever-so-faintly he felt he caught a wisp of Lyrah’s voice, albeit he had no knowledge of what she was saying. He furrowed his brow in concern as he lightly stepped closer to her door, and with his ear against the wood he caught what sounded like a sharp squeak of pain.

“Lyrah!” he called in concern and grasped her doorknob to fling her door open. “Are you alrigh-“

His sentence was cut short by the sight before him. His jaw slackened and his expression melted into neutrality as he processed the view of his newly-adult daughter, spread-eagled on her bed with his missing scroll splayed next to her and her prized flute pressed between her legs against her linen, full-body pajamas. At his cry, Lyrah’s eyes shot toward the door and widened in immediate surprise, but before either party could say a word Drenan stepped back, slammed the door shut, and hurried himself down the stairs.

\tBreakfast was completely ready by the time Lyrah came down the stairs in full shamanic dress. Her father’s back was to her as he sat on a cushion on the floor in front of the house’s fireplace. He seemed to take no immediate notice of her as he ate, and without a word she tiptoed around him, poured a bowl of stew he’d made, and sat down next to him to eat.

She hesitated at the first spoonful while she indirectly eyed her father, who still made no move to acknowledge at her. “Dad…?” she piped up quietly.

“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” he asked brightly between spoonfuls of stew, eyes on the fire.

“Everything… I mean, how’d you sleep?” she asked back timidly.

“Peacefully, thankfully.” Still no signs.

The young woman took a bite and swallowed hard. A long moment of silence passed before she spoke again. “Hey, I’m sorry-“

He was quick to cut her off. “No need to be sorry. You’re a grown woman. You have the right to do as you please. If anything, I should be sorry for barging in. I misunderstood what I heard.”

She let out a gentle sigh of relief at this. “Well, I’m sorry I took your scroll at least. It wasn’t right.”

His cheeks seemed to fill with a bit of color at her words, though still he just stared forward. “No need. You may keep it if you wish.”

She nearly choked on her stew at this, her own cheeks flushing. “I mean… I couldn’t…!”

“Consider it a parting gift. You can bring me back another one someday,” he added with a soft chuckle.

She flushed all the more, but simply nodded. “Y-yeah, sure.” The rest of the meal lasted in silence. Lyrah finished quickly, and she couldn’t help but nudge her father as she did. “Thanks for not being mad, dad.” Drenan quietly nodded in response as she gently pressed her hand against his thigh to brace herself to stand, and from behind she gave him a warm, loving hug before hopping back off to her room to gather her things.

As her door closed, Drenan let out a heavy sigh of relief. He was very unsure as to whether he was relieved now, or incredibly disheartened, that his daughter was leaving.

* * * * * 4

\t“One second, just hold on!” Drenan called as he hurriedly stepped out of the sunken pool and wrapped a cloth towel around his waist. “Farseer. Can I help you?” he asked somewhat stiffly.

\tKeldah was no less stiff as he bowed his head. “Not at all. I was merely coming by to see if Lyrah had been by. I had heard she’d been seen in Orgrimmar this morning.”

\tDrenan crinkled his brow. “I had not heard this, nor has she been here.”

\t“I see,” Keldah remarked and took a skeptical glance into Drenan’s home past him. “Well, if she does stop by, do tell her I said hello and was curious as to how much she’s been practicing. Three years is a long time to go without tutelage.”

\tDrenan nodded and eyed the shaman warily. “I’ll tell her if she comes by. Anything else?”

\t“Yes, actually. If she does come by, ensure that should she require anything else on her travels, I would be happy to oblige.”

\tAt this, Drenan’s nostrils flared gently as his gaze narrowed into a glare. “You are out of line, shaman. Leave.”

\tKeldah hardly seemed fazed, yet he spoke as if he were falsely surprised by Drenan’s hostility. “Oh? I do not understand.”

\tDrenan took a firm step over the threshold of his door. “You’ve come by one too many times over the years, and every time I see you I always think it is too soon. I trust my daughter and her faith in her teachers, but I do not trust you. Your interest is misplaced.”

\tThe shaman sighed. “I have been nothing but good to your daughter. It is you I have always been more concerned for. I saw it in your eye when she was born, and if nothing else it has gotten worse. You are alone, and always will be unless you let your daughter go.”

\tAnother step. Drenan had not had to defend his home in years, but he still had a great deal of fight in him, and he was certainly not in poor health.

\tThe shaman backpedaled softly as he noticed the gesture. “Very well. This has been your second warning,” he added before turning and beginning his trek toward the open ridges.

\tThe younger male slammed his door shut and barred it before he let out an exhausted sigh. He felt he had little purpose anymore without someone to take care of, but not just anyone would do.

His daughter kept him going even if she wasn’t around. This was not the first supposed sighting of her in Orgrimmar, and in turn he held no genuine hope that she would come.

What remained even more heavily embedded in his mind was the sight of her that morning of her departure. Indeed she was a spitting image of her mother, and the sight reminded him of how his late wife had looked so very long ago.

All these thoughts circled his mind as he cast his towel aside yet again to sink back into the naturally-fed, enclosed pool at the back of his home. His head lolled back as he let the heat of the water relax his muscles, and within moments the thoughts had waned and lulled him into a peaceful calm. That is, until another rap at the door brought him back from his reverie.

“Not him again,” he grumbled to himself. “What now-“

His sentence was cut short as the door was shoved roughly open from the other side by the newcomer. The figure leapt through the air and latched onto Drenan full-body before he could react, and he was just about to start swinging when the figure spoke excitedly into his ear, “Dad! I’m home!”

* * * * * 5

Drenan immediately froze in response as Lyrah pulled her head back to look at him with the widest smile upon her face. It’s been forever!”

Her words brought him out of his shock, and without thinking he wrapped both of his burly arms around her in a heavy bear hug, burying his muzzle into her neck. “Sweetheart, it’s been too long!” The elder tauren clenched back a number of conflicted emotions as they hugged. They weren’t important at that moment. “It has been a boring three years, but I’ve managed. Come! Sit! I’ll get you something to eat.”

The young woman smiled and giggled happily, but as they pulled back from the hug both tauren looked downward. Unsure of what to do with herself, she took a seat on a cushion near the fire, crossed her legs, and tucked her hands firmly into her lap, breathing heavily.

A few minutes later Drenan returned wearing a normal pair of deep blue leathered pants and a vest of the same color. I want to hear it all.”

Lyrah nodded and accepted the venison hungrily as she began to talk. Nagrand is gorgeous!”

Drenan nodded with honest interest. “Did you happen to go to Telaa at all? I made some good friends there once.”

She nodded happily after another bite. “Do you know a ‘Zani’? I think that’s what he called himself.”

The larger tauren clapped his hands thunderously together. “Yeah! Zan’s a very close friend. Him and I fended off a lot of Alliance out there.”

“He was super-nice, and he even helped show me the way to the Netherstorm. I didn’t get to meet his daughter, but he talked about her a lot.”

“He always did. He’s a good man, but he’s got his demons he’s been working through.”

Lyrah nodded after another swallow and continued her stories. Hours went by as the pair sat and talked. Lyrah would bring up a story and Drenan would chip in however he could, and things felt like that had been before she’d left. By the time the sun had set, the two were laughing and hugging as if she’d never left.

After a while, Drenan let out a heavy yawn. “By the Earthmother, the sun was here a minute ago.”

Lyrah nodded and laughed softly. “Aww, you got soft, old man!” she quipped and elbowed his ribs. “I don’t usually sleep until the moon’s real high.”

“No more bedtime has spoiled you,” he joked back and patted her shoulder. “I may not be staying up much longer myself. Your room’s just like you left it though whenever you’re ready.” He’d gotten to his feet when familiar memories hit him once again, and he couldn’t resist adding, “Oh, and I’ll make sure not to wake you in the morning. I learned my lesson,” he offered with a light chuckle.

Lyrah’s cheeks immediately flushed as she forced a small chuckle of her own. “Yeah… um, actually dad, I wouldn’t mind a wakeup call after sunrise if that’s okay?”

“Oh? What for?”

She looked down to the floor for a brief moment to collect herself. “I kinda miss it. You used to wake me up every day.”

“If you insist,” he returned genuinely as he leaned down to his seated daughter and wrapped her in an enormous, loving hug. “You can stay as long as you like, and if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask, okay?”

She smiled and leaned into her father while she reached up and tenderly squeezed his bulky forearms. “Promise.” As the male broke the hug and turned to leave, Lyrah called out to him. “Thanks for everything, dad! I love you!”

Drenan smiled to himself and waved without looking behind him. “Love you too, sweetheart. Rest easy tonight.”

As Drenan’s door closed, the male exhaled heavily and happily. It had been the best time he’d had with Lyrah in a very long time, though now that she was out of sight his more taboo feelings for her rushed back into his mind and body. He wouldn’t be going to bed just yet.

In the living room, Lyrah sat for a long time thinking about her father. Their parting had not been a sour one, but she had missed him dearly during her absence and silently lamented not returning his letters. She had been kept busy most days with work for the Horde, and she’d even gone about
