"writing": "<166>\n\n\tTears continued to fall, but Drenan sniffled and tried to wipe them away before speaking again. “My f-father passed over seven decades ago… but I… I never wanted to believe it. I thought he had abandoned us… a-and I wanted t-to be angry about it. I-it made it easier to h-handle… to accept that he had not just… fallen so easily. H-he was so strong….” He tried another wipe, but it didn’t help much. “And my mother… despite everything… I loved her to the end, whether s-she listened to me or not, but I… I turned her away after she had tracked me down. I was a Sunwalker… her life was not meant for me… and a week later, I received news that she… s-she was… gone.” His tears started ramping up once more. “I thought for sure… I thought I had killed her. That turning her away had broken her heart… or if I had just listened to her, she might not have…” Lyrah pulled him into another fierce hug, allowing Drenan to cry all over again, clutching her for dear life.\n\n\t“Daddy,” Lyrah said softly as she held him. “You’re not to blame. Grandma made her own choices, and so did grandpa. I… neither of them deserved their fates, but you had nothing to do with either of their deaths.”\n\n\tDrenan’s hunched-over form shuddered as he tried desperately to regain control over his breathing, though Lyrah’s gentle rubbing was helping considerably. Finally, his head rose once more, but this time there were no fresh tears atop the matted fur of his muzzle. He looked his daughter in the eye, then leaned forward to give her the softest, most appreciative kiss he could muster for her. He slowly drew back with his voice only a whisper. “Thank you, Lyrah… I am sorry I never told you any of that. I can tell they were… thorough. I have held onto that anger and grief since I was a child. Was… was there any more?” he asked in earnest.\n\n\tLyrah smiled at him, returning his kiss, then taking a more proper seat opposite him. “Um… not a lot. They were both pretty… sad, really. They seemed to do a lot of reflection in the afterlife. I guess your dad mentioned having a brother once.”\n\n\tDrenan nodded. “My father spoke of Uncle Datch a great deal when he would visit home… but it was almost always out of anger. I never met Datch of course, but I almost felt like I was attached to him just by his memory. I still think of him fondly sometimes, as if I have known him since childhood. Did you meet him?”\n\n\t“No,” Lyrah admitted and shook her head. “Maybe he ended up somewhere else in the Shadowlands? I didn’t meet any further removed relatives either. I got the sense that your dad didn’t like either of his parents. I think his mom’s in Revendreth at least, especially after what she did to your mom. She didn’t talk about her folks much either.”\n\n\t”That does not surprise me.” Drenan hugged his daughter once more, and the two of them carefully picked each other up off the floor. “Thank you so, so much, Lyrah. I am sor-“\n\n\tLyrah gave him a soft pat on the rump. “Stop apologizing, old bull. I’m just… glad I could help, I guess. They were very nice to me, and I learned a lot from every spirit I met. I think I need to start regularly practicing speaking to them.”\n\n\tDrenan hugged her again. “I think that is a fine idea. If you speak to them again… could you tell them that I hold no further ill will toward them?”\n\n\tLyrah grinned from ear to ear. “Count on it.”\n\n* * * * *\n\n\tOnce things had settled between the two of them, Lyrah was finally able to relax in her new home. There was part of her that definitely lamented not being a part of the construction process, but considering the downpour outside, having a roof over her pregnant head made up for it immensely. Drenan had even built a removable panel on the first floor, which allowed Lyrah to carefully shift the earth below the house and create a full-sized basement for them, at least until Drenan got some framing in to finish it off. The sprightly shaman was overjoyed with it all, thanking her father again and again and outlining a multitude of different ways she wished to decorate.\n\n\tThe rain never let up that day. Groa finally showed herself again around suppertime, and Lyrah was just as quick to make her acquaintance as she was to realize how… personable she could be. Nonetheless, all three remained friendly throughout their modest meal, and afterward Drenan was able to happily lead Lyrah up their grandiose, hardwood spiral staircase and down the upstairs hallway. The very last door at the end opened into an extremely spacious, master bedroom, complete with an over-tauren-sized, four-poster bed; the only furniture with any sheets or adornments on it.\n\n\tLyrah laughed happily as she went to flop onto her new bed, but instead gently eased herself down upon it, finding it significantly more difficult to move easily. “This is incredible… you did all this in two months?”\n\n\tDrenan shrugged and pulled off his tunic. “I was worried to death and there was nothing I could do. So I did what I could, which was build.”\n\n\tLyrah looked him up and down, particularly as he dropped his drawers as well. “Dad, you look thin… kinda.”\n\n\t”I have not been eating well,” he confessed.\n\n\t“Yeah but… whoa. I think you got more muscle-y.” She got right back up off the bed and moved to give his biceps a few exploratory squeezes.\n\n\tDrenan chuckled. “I would not condone undereating, but I suppose construction work involves additional exercise.” He didn’t move as Lyrah walked slow circles around him, occasionally gripping his well-toned muscles, which he gladly flexed for her. “You look as radiant as ever yourself, my love.”\n\n\tLyrah blushed at this. “I feel like a big ol’ roly poly,” she admitted. “You really think I look pretty?”\n",
