"writing": "<159>\n\n\t”It frightened me to death,” Karthak added. “My mission to finish off the harpies was not done, yet I was about to be a father. Theira became my top priority.”\n\n\t”We had to leave Stonetalon for proper aid. We took a flight to Thunder Bluff, which is where your father was born. I remember seeing him for the first time, and I knew he would be everything to me.”\n\n\tDespite Theira’s gentle words, Karthak’s sad expression remained. “I had thought the same at first. It is difficult for me to admit, even now… but I was a horrible father. I was not ready to be a father. All I could think about was my brother and his passing, so I… I was rarely around while Drenan was growing up.”\n\n\tTheira, too, frowned. “It was a difficult time. All things considered, Drenan was an easy baby. He was quiet, gentle, would never hurt a fly. And he was smart, too. He was a chatterbox at an early age, and he was able to read very early. I was proud of him… perhaps a bit too proud, at times.”\n\n\tLyrah chuckled. “Is that even possible?”\n\n\t”… it is when you try to impress a life on your child that he doesn’t want.”\n\n\tKarthak let out another sigh. “I would come home once a month to see them. He was growing so fast.”\n\n\t”And all he wanted was to be like you,” Theira added.\n\n\t”He did… and I wish he had not. My focus was in the wrong place. My family was… ugh, I hate reliving this… my priorities were not what they should have been. I became obsessed with the death of the harpies, but I did love my son. I saw my mission as a horrible necessity. I had to do it, and it became an excuse to justify being away from home so much.”\n\n\tTheira frowned. “I could see the pain on Drenan’s face whenever his father left home. He asked so many questions about him, many of which I felt were not my place to say to him.”\n\n\t”They were my stories to tell… that I refused to tell him,” Karthak admitted. “And… and then it was too late.” The bull pointed to the scar that ran up into his mane. “I made a mistake during one of my journeys. I had found a nest of harpies and climbed one of the taller mountains to reach it. There were far more harpies within than I had anticipated… one of them struck me on the head, and I fell. I slid all the way down the mountain and into a crevasse… I remember this because I did not perish for many hours after my fall. My body was broken, and there was nothing I could do to save myself this time.”\n\n\tKarthak looked at Theira, who sighed shakily. “When he didn’t come back for his monthly visit… I knew he had overreached. Drenan was only ten at the time, and after three months, I abhor saying it… but it was as if Karthak had never existed to him. I tried so hard to talk to him about it, but he would get so angry and just run away from me. He wouldn’t talk to me about it or process it at all, no matter how hard I tried. He was his father’s son, after all… and eventually I gave up trying. Instead I… I tried to focus on his future. He was all I had left in the world, and I wanted him to succeed so badly. The idea of him becoming a warrior made me physically sick. In an effort to steer him away from it, I started pushing him toward druidism, just like me.”\n\n\tLyrah tried to laugh to break the tension a little. “Really? I can’t imagine Dad shapeshifting.”\n\n\t”Neither could he,” Theira returned with a chuckle. “He put his hoof down at twelve that he had no desire to learn the druidic arts… but I refused to listen to him. I kept pushing him, and I know now that all I did was push him away from me. On his fifteenth birthday, we had the worst argument of our lives. I had my mind set that he had to do this, as if it would save himself from his father’s fate. I went to bed furious that night… and when I woke, Drenan was gone.”\n\n\t”I… I had no idea,” Lyrah said softly.\n\n\t“It broke my heart,” Theira admitted. “In retrospect, I only blame myself, but I couldn’t see it at the time. I couldn’t find him for several years, until I had discovered he’d joined the Sunwalkers from a friend of mine. It was… a bittersweet discovery. I was upset he’d taken on a profession that sent him into combat, but at the same time it was a relief that he’d found something at all, and that he was alive and well. So… I decided to immediately seek him out. I found out that he rarely visited the Sunwalker Lodge, so I left Thunder Bluff while he was on a mission to Thousand Needles. I hadn’t seen him in three decades at that point… and when I saw him, his face lit up! He hugged me. He said he was happy to see me. I couldn’t believe it!”\n\n\t”He is a very kind male,” Lyrah agreed and smiled.\n\n\t”He is… and I just broke his heart all over again,” Theira added with a frown. “I wanted him to come home so badly. I begged him. But he wouldn’t budge. He said his place was among the Sunwalkers… so I suggested he look into the Cenarion Circle instead. I remember the way his smile fell, the look of betrayal… the scorn on his face. He didn’t say another word to me, and he returned to his post as if I had never spoken to him.”\n\n\t”Grandma….”\n\n\t”I know. It was foolish. I regret it to this day. I should have known better. I just… I couldn’t let him be his own person, and I paid for it with everything.” Theira grimaced. “On my way back through the Barrens, I encountered a Grimtotem raiding party. They captured me and took me to the Stonetalon Mountains, where I was brought face-to-face with a woman named Styrinna.”\n\n\tKarthak glared at the ground and interjected with, “… My mother.”\n",
