First, I know how much y'all degens from upcountry (this is a compliment, I am one of you) love pregnancy, so writing about infertility isn't ideal by any means. All the same, it makes sense for Val and why she starts of rather jaded and disillusioned with men and the like. It honestly hurt me to write it for her, because she doesn't deserve what she got, but she's making the best of it. Eliza and I had some issues before we had our boyo, and I wouldn't wish that crap on anyone. Childfree folks can do their thing of course!\n\nSecond, and much lighter, I didn't really hide the idea that he was a death knight, I swear! I just never acknowledged it. "writing": "<11>\n\n\tThis caught Bob’s curiosity. The two of them left their shelter behind and began to trek northward, giving them even more time to chat. “Why speak so poorly of your body?” He asked earnestly. “You’re beautiful.”\n\n\tHer ginger curls swung around as she shook her head. “Hah! Most men can’t handle this much woman. That ain’t the problem though. The trash takes itself out that way.” Val paused and her smile disappeared. She remained quiet for a long time before finally muttering, “… I’m infertile.”\n\n\tThe worgen’s ears drooped. “I’m so sorry.”\n\n\tVal shrugged, still aimlessly gazing at the sand. “S’alright. I’ve accepted it by now. It’s why Barnum/Krig left me. Greedy fuckface wanted an heir to keep all his treasure attached to his bloodline. When he found out I couldn’t do that for him, he threw me away without remorse. Ain’t no fun being rejected for something ya can’t help.”\n\n\tBob grimaced sadly. “I couldn’t imagine.”\n\n\t”It’s why I swore I wouldn’t sail anymore, too,” she admitted quietly. “Used to sail on ships when I was fourteen onward. I got real good at it. Spent a lot of time focused on protocols. Problem was, some men can’t handle it when a lady can beat their arse, even if it ain’t intentional. The captain on the fifth ship I worked on was one of ‘em. I was nineteen. He called me below deck when we were close to Boralus. Claimed a cannon I’d cleaned wasn’t firing right. I started inspecting it -was practically laying on it to get to inspect the barrel- and it went off. Sent me flyin’ backwards across the hull.”\n\n\t”That could’ve killed you,” Bob pointed out.\n\n\t”Could’ve,” she agreed. “Captain had lit the fuse when I wasn’t looking. He stood there and laughed while I was picking myself up. The rest of the crew laughed too, until I started bleedin’ anyway. I was lucky we were so close to shore. Got to a proper doctor before I bled out. Long and short of it: Innards were damaged beyond repair.”\n\n\tBob didn’t know what to say exactly. “That’s one wretched captain.”\n\n\tVal chuckled. “He disappeared a week later. No one knew where he went. They assumed he went overboard one night after drinkin’ too much. At least that’s what I was telling everyone.” The ex-lifeguard didn’t speak of the matter any further. “Anyway, I quit sailing and vowed never to go back. Got a gig as a lifeguard, met Barnum, moved in with him for about two years, then he dropped me when I told him what I just told you. Had to move right back out, hence the mess ya walked into.”\n\n\t”He was a jerk anyway,” the worgen half-growled.\n\n\t”He was -is- but he wasn’t evil, y’know? I kept in touch with him. Definitely not friends, but I got why he walked away. Didn’t feel right to fault him.”\n\n\tBob at least knew well enough to place a gentle hand on her shoulder for comfort. “Well, I’m not going anywhere… if you want me around anyway.”\n\n\tThis brought a look of genuine surprise from Val. “You mean that? Even after you figure yourself out?”\n\n\t”I promise,” he rumbled.\n\n\tVal’s smile returned twofold.\n\n* * * * *\n\n\tMidday turned into afternoon as the beach turned into a strip of rocky, grassy land. Even more beach stretched beyond it, but Bob stopped dead atop the unusual strip. “We’re close,” he half-growled. “But we shouldn’t stick around, It’s not safe.”\n\n\tVal followed his gaze across the beach, then off to the northeast where a lone, menacing tower stretched toward the sky in the distance. Feral-sounding growls and howls could be heard from where they stood, but it was too far to tell if there was anyone or anything entering or exiting the tower. “Sounds like a lotta beasties.”\n\n\t”Feral worgen pack,” he said with certainty, “like the ones who nearly got to you this morning.”\n\n\t”Good thing I got a sane one with me then,” she quipped and nudged him in the ribs.\n\n\tBob smiled, and the worgen unexpectedly turned eastward and began walking toward the sea.\n\n\tIt wasn’t long before a familiar sight came into view.\n\n\tAt the very tip of the strip stood a tiny dock. Its wood was in heavy disrepair, covered in holes, and was half-sunken into the ocean. There was nothing salvageable about it, but the dock itself was irrelevant. In the ground mere feet from the dock was a singular, black greatsword planted tip-first into the ground. The sword had clearly been there for several years. There wasn’t a speck of rust on it, but moss and sea salt had settled upon the cross guard and pommel. “That’s it,” he muttered incredulously. “That’s mine.”\n\n\tVal trotted over to the sword, but didn’t touch it. “I don’t see your name on it.”\n\n\t”Trust me. It’s mine. I know it in my heart.” Bob stared at the sword and stopped a mere foot from it, but a trembling hand wouldn’t quite reach out for it. “But I-“\n\n\t”Bob, ya might wanna grab it and run!” Val suddenly cried out and pointed out to the northern beach. From the tower beyond, a pack of a half dozen feral worgen had bolted across the beach… and were now making directly for the pair. Again, Bob hesitated, his gauntleted hand quivering less than an inch from the sword’s grip. Val continued to look more and more panicked. “C’mon, what’re ya waiting for!? Hope you remember how to use that damn thing, ‘cause I don’t!”\n\n\tThe worgen looked over at Val… and a strange sense of calm washed over him. He steeled his gaze, then grasped the sword.\n\n\tAnd its blade flared to life, both sides lighting up with the blue glow of magical runes.\n\n\tThe images returned to his mind, and this time they were crystal clear.\n\n\tVal watched in awe as the worgen yanked the runeblade from the ground and held it high, inspecting the runes in the fading sunlight. “First you’re a worgen, and now you’re tellin’ me you’re a damn death knight!?” It all made sense to Val. The perpetual chill of his body, the fact that he sprung right up on the beach when she found him, the deep scar on his chest, his plate armor and the strength it took to wear it… he was never really alive.\n",
