It was a terrible spot on the dresser, but he didn’t have another spot for it. Good thing it was a temporary inconvenience. His neighbor asked him to watch the salamander, and he could never say no to her. He wouldn’t want to, either. If she ever wanted to, she could pick him up, and break him over her knee. Bane style.\n\nShe knew he wouldn’t say no. He doesn’t have anything better to do, either. Being a writer, he works from home. Since he just sold another book in a series, he didn’t have to worry about money for a while. The only thing he has to worry about for quite a long time, is the next book in the series. \n\nShe was a bodybuilder. Away on some sort of competition. He could never really keep up with that kind of thing, though. All he knew, was that she was going to be gone for roughly a month this time, and she only has one pet. She had asked him to watch the spotted amphibian, telling him how easy it was. He did have to say, though, that it was rather easy. Enough crickets as he wanted to eat, simply dropped into the tank every two days before bed, and whatever he didn’t want to eat removed afterwards. Apparently, she cleaned the tank out fully once a month, so she would do all the hard parts before she left, and when she got home. \n\nHe grabs the container of crickets from where left them beside the tank, and the bottle of powder lying next to that. With the shaker, he drops a little of the powder into it, adding a few crickets in afterwards and giving it a quick shake to give them a coating. He turns it over, clicking the latch with his thumb to drop them in. \n\nThey’re gone in seconds. He lets out a laugh as the salamander chases them down greedily, going after all of them like its’ on a hunt. With just a flick of her tongue, they’re gone, down her gullet to settle into her stomach. Once all of them are eaten, the salamander stops, turning slightly and seeming to look at the human standing over her terrarium expectantly. Dropping them in by twos, he keeps feeding them to the amphibian, finally stopping after she manages to put down an amazing seven crickets. He waits, seeing if she will eat the last one, but doesn’t bother. Staring at the cricket, she chases him around the tank, the insect hopping through water and moss. Each time it seems like she’ll catch it, she stops. Eventually, it becomes clear to the man that she’s just playing with the cricket. \n\nAfter he gives it more time, and it also becomes clear she has no intention of actually eating it, he scoops it up, placing it back into the container with the others. Then for his other duty, he picks up the spray bottle on top of the tank, spraying it through the screen at the top, letting it float down to putting a layer of moisture over everything. \n\n \tOnce everything is significantly wet enough, he sets the spray bottle full of bottled water down. He walks to his computer. Once there, he sits, plopping himself down on his chair and turning his computer on. The screen flashes blue, the Windows 10 logo flashing briefly on the screen before flickering off. \n\nHe always gets that pang of fear striking through him when his screen turns black like that, since it stays black for so long, even having done this every day for a while now. He can’t stay online for long, since his neighbor is supposed to come home tomorrow to pick up her salamander.
