"description": "Her hair was the color of milk and snow. A prize for the High King who found the fae lost in the woods, he knew the the sidhe often haunted the woods near his domain, but for his hunters to bring this woman into his court, it was surely an auspicious sign. Maybe an unlucky one. \n\nHe called his druids and magi to read the olghms, the King didn't to bring ruin to his estate, especially since she was pursued and was brought to him, he knew his druids would at least divine if this was bad or good luck.\n\nThe eldest druid was called Friend of the Holly, and saw the unicorn woman in a warm room washed and warmed in thick soft wool. She had fire beside he and she slept softly but he saw pain in her face. Friend of Holly frowned and drew the lots. His worry grew thick as he bowed to his HIgh King and told him of the news. \n\"She is a daughter of Danu, you must show her hospitality. She was not caught but came to your hunters for protection.\" \n\"Did the trees tell you?\" \n\"Yes, Oak for strength and Rowan for magic, Witch Hazel for protection. She also is pregnant.\" That news startled the king. He had been seeking a wife for months, but a pregnant faerie at his door? What is even after her? He furrowed his copper brow, if the gods had ask him to keep this one in his home, then he must, after all a punishment by Danu would be ill advised. \n\n\"What must I do for her?\" \n\"Feed her what ever you eat, do not feed her meat of deer, but only of bird. Her hair must be kept long, and do not look her in the eye. When she labors call the midwife and I. She must bore her daughter on the highest part of your keep on a blanket the color of dusk. Yule when she will have her daughter. Be warned good king, she must not be touched by any unmarried.\" Holly's words rang in the King's head. He must tread carefully. This was a test. \n\nThe woman was called Ailbhe, and she was favored among the court. Only those in his trust could glimpse the unicorn woman. Sometimes she was human with a spiral horn, other times she was white mare in the pasture. But most of the time to the King's favor she was faun in face and form. White as new snow and eyes like lapis. she was cold and silent. White like a blank stone, or a empty sky. She was quiet only speaking hushed snow words to the court. But she was treated kindly, fed fresh bread, and milk, she ate the meat of wild birds. Sickness did not come to his court, and any baby born was fair and of good health. A boon to the court the King fell in love with her. \n\nBut he did not touch her. \n\nHe knew the warning of the druid who first saw her and Ailbhe did not trust any human man that came near. Women were the only humans she trust, any male or male-seeming was given a wide berth. Accept for a foolish hunter. Bran was the first human that saw her before bringing him to his lord's hearth. He was enamored with her, and her wide belly as Samhain approached. She followed her from the Grand Hall to her room his foot steps long and silent as he listened to the sound of her hooves on stone. She stopped and turned her head, eyes on him. \n\"You are, a beauty, lady fair I wish to truly know you. Please why are you so quiet strange one?\" He reached out to touch Ailbhe, long ears jerked back, the King's voice rang out as he saw his hunter follow the fae. \n\"NO, wait! Don't touch her.\" \nBran stood still his hand out stretched, cold spilled into his fingers chilling him and turning his breath in to mist.A second stood still. Ailbhe stood in her wool dress eyes on the human who dare touch her. If Bran would touch her he would be frozen solid. The King saved his life. She turned away and left the hunter and his lord in the dark of hall. Good is the King who heeds the words of his druids. Good is the King who is mindful. \n\nAilbhe continued to be gracious under hospitality, and the King found the snows of his domain to be soft but still unfeeling. Chill rippled just as Yule approached, It was then she invited the King to her chamber that she stated for several months. Unheard of inviting a man to her room, the court whispered warnings about her fae nature and her deception. He heard their words but did not feel worry as she took his hand. it was not ice, she accepted him. \n\n\"What do you ask of me lady?\" \n\"Only for you to bear witness to your daughter.\"\n\"My daughter?\" He said shocked at her words, like river ice. Sharp but clean. he frowned. \n\"How is your unborn is a daughter of mine?\" \n\"I was come to your court the Hounds of the Underworld seek. I will return to the Underworld after I bear my child, but I wish for her to be among man. I have watched you since Autumn Rite, you have shown compassion, kindness, reason and firmness. All good traits but remain unbound. How strange? You will find a wife three moons, she will find favor of you and your foundling daughter. Your domain will never fear the cold or the bite of winter, if you so choose to keep my daughter.\" Warned Ailbhe, \n\"And what is in exchanged?\" the King knew the rules. She grinned as she asked him to follow him. \n\n\"You will join me after my child's 16th birthday.\" The King stood still, eyes wide, will it was not a suggestion it was a command. But, his heart throbbed, he was in love with the unicorn, and knew if he dare reject her gift he would damn his domain. So, he did not refuse. \n\nIn moon light as the cold seem stay away from them, she stood naked before the High King. Exhaling she moved through the cold stone his eyes transfixed. \n\"Do...do you need a midwife? Or a maid?\" \n\"No. I can foal alone, I will only need you to bare witness to her-NGH-for her to be real.\" \nHe did not understood, but only watched as she strained and squatted, he adverted his eyes feeling it rude to watch a woman like this but still, despite the flushed cheeks of embarrassment, he was fascinated at the sight of a creature laboring like mortal. It was messing and grim as she yelled and moaned. He couldn't bear it. He moved to be near but he was shoved away. He grabbed the gown she hand, midnight blue, and put it under her as she pushed, her neathers bulge under the pressure and fluid dripped. Lips pink and soft as he watched. Supporting her as she felt her daughter move through her, pushing is she passed through her womb into her canal, her hands behind her as she pushed her pale head into the mortal world. The King caught her, fluids coating his hands and chest as the newborn wailed into his arms. Quickly he took his knife to cut the cord and called his men to fetch his maids to serve Ailbhe, but as soon as he turned around with the squalling infant in his arms, his unicorn was gone. \n\nShe bore her daughter, and her job was done. \n\nIt was said though, the domain never experienced the harshness of winter, and the King's daughter bore her mother's name. All children were born healthy, and the woods were filled with game. A blessing, but a strange one. Only the few would get to see, the princess, the daughter of Winter itself. ",
