The remainder of class passed without incident. Roxy had somehow managed to finish the little gizmo she'd been working on, so that was at least one positive, but now there was only one break period between her and the inevitable fate. The lounge was crowded as usual, but Roxy still managed to find her usual quiet spot. Just a few moments to herself to try and forget everything that had happened today. "Um... hi..." Roxy cringed as she looked up from her game to see Riley standing in front of her. His eye was still swollen, and streaks of dirt were still visible in his fur, and he had a noticeable rip in his t-shirt that his vest didn't quite cover. "What?" Roxy said sharply, hoping this would be quick. "I, uh... I wanted to thank you for this morning," Riley said as he nervously shuffled his feet. "You kinda saved my butt." "Uh huh," Roxy nodded, turning her attention back to her game, hoping he'd get the hint and leave. Instead, Riley took a seat near her, glancing over at what she was playing. "Is that a Gameport XL?" said Riley, sitting back in his seat. "I'm jealous. I've wanted one for a while now." Roxy didn't say anything, barely giving him a low grunt of acknowledgement. She was trying to ignore him, but out of the corner of her eye, she could see Riley taking his shoe off and pointing his bare foot at her, wiggling his toes. Roxy was absolutely confused as to why he was doing this, so she just turned her attention back to the game. "These school shoes are kinda silly, huh?" said Riley, crossing his legs so his bare foot was pointed at Roxy. "Meh," Roxy just shrugged. She had gotten used to them by now. "They could just let us wear our own shoes," said Riley, flexing his toes. "You'd probably like that, huh?" "I'm sorry, but what are you doing?" Roxy was too distracted now to ignore it. "What do you mean?" Riley said with a shy smile. "With your foot," said Roxy. "What are you doing?" "Oh, just... relaxing," Riley said nervously. "Nothing wrong with that, is there?" "Actually, there is," a voice from behind them came. Roxy looked up to see Jeff standing over them as Riley was frantically pulling his shoe back on. "Gah! Sorry!" Riley said as he fumbled his heel back into his shoe. "If you wanna go barefoot, the garden is a good spot for it," said Jeff. "How ya doing kid? Your eye still hurt?" "Um, a little," Riley said nervously. "Well at least you can take a punch," said Jeff, giving Riley a playful nudge. "Roxanne, are you going to class?" Roxy looked around and saw students beginning to file out of the lounge. She hadn't even heard the bell. "Can you just look the other way today?" "No can do," said Jeff. "Wait, you don't want to go to class?" said Riley. "But we get to perform our first magic today!" Roxy just shoved her stuff into her bag and gripped her tail. "I can find my own way." "Actually, today's freshman magic classes are being held in the auditorium," said Jeff. "What!" Roxy almost jumped out of her seat. "You mean... with a crowd?" "No, it's just the class," said Jeff. "But that's the only place inside with enough room for the testing equipment." This did little to calm Roxy. The last thing she wanted to do was get on a stage in front of anyone. "I... I can't do this..." "It'll be alright Roxanne," said Jeff. "I went through it when I was a kid. It only takes a minute." "No..." said Roxy, clenching her tail. "Take me to the principal. I'm not going." "You're just going to run away?" said Riley. Roxy's ears perked up hearing this. She suddenly had an image of an RPG battle she wasn't prepared for, trying to run away, but failing constantly. She suddenly felt really embarrassed for some reason. "I... I'll go..." Roxy slowly stood up, legs slightly shaking as Jeff led them into the halls towards the auditorium. It felt like she was being led to an execution. Everything in her life was going to change from this one class. Her tail was clutched so tightly in her hands, it almost felt like she might draw blood. It didn't feel fair. Having to make some big event out of this in an auditorium. She wanted to run, but much like the pretend battle in her head, she couldn't. "End of the line," said Jeff, dropping them off in front of the auditorium. Riley held the door open for Roxy, definitely catching on that something was wrong with her. The auditorium was empty except for the class up on the stage. "Don't worry, you got this," said Riley, trying to give her a reassuring smile. Roxy didn't say anything, instead forcing all her energy to her legs to force herself towards the stage. Everyone else was already there. Roxy quickly found Will on the stage, not even caring he was with Tolbin and Roscoe. "You actually showed up!" said Will, quickly noticing her standing next to him. "Are you ok?" "Help me..." Roxy managed to mutter under her breath. "Just relax," said Will. "It'll be over before we know it." "Why are we on a stage?" Roxy quivered, "I feel like we're going to be judged on our performance or something!" "That's ridiculous!" said Will. "We're just figuring out our affinity. It's nothing more than that. I promise." Roxy nodded, trying to calm herself down. It was probably too late to run away at this point. She was going to have to see this through to the end. "Um... Roxanne, right?" Her trance was slightly broken by someone calling her. Roxy spun around to find the silver fox from technology class standing behind her, but looking decidedly less angry then she had been. In fact, she looked like she'd been crying. "I just... I wanted to... apologize for how I... I mean... for yelling at you and... and..." "I don't... I mean..." Roxy wasn't sure how to respond to this. It looked like she was about to start crying again. "I'M SO SORRY!!!" Without warning, the fox fell to her knees and wrapped her arms around Roxy's waist, bawling her eyes out as she pressed her muzzle into Roxy's chest. "Ow... can't... breathe..." Roxy gasped as she tried to squirm away, but the death grip on her torso was too much. She could only glance around the stage as everyone else in the class stared at her. "Ok Lola, I think she gets it!" the skunk boy from earlier had appeared and was now trying to pry the fox off of Roxy. Her grip loosened as she stood up, wiping the tears from her eyes. Roxy gasped as she was finally able to breathe again, still in shock from that outburst. She turned to Will, noticing every single other person there staring at her. "This is the worst day of my life..." Roxy managed to wheeze out as Will tried to give her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Ok, everybody settle down!" Maya had appeared from the backstage area, rolling a large plastic cart with what looked like a pile of junk on it with her, placing it in the center of the stage. "Alright everyone, so today is the big day!" Maya said excitedly. "I always love doing this every year! A shame this is my last class of the day." Everyone's attention was turned to the cart. Several odd looking devices were scattered on top of it. Looking closely, the class could see a bucket of water, a weather vane, a Bunsen burner, a soil pot, and some kind of electric device that had probably been borrowed from Napino. "Is this how we're going to be tested?" said Tolbin. "Yes it is," said Maya. "Are you kidding me?" the leopard girl said. "That's a pile of junk!" "Maybe so," said Maya, lighting the Bunsen burner with a snap of her fingers. "All we need to do is present you with the elements, and see which one you react to." She placed her hand in front of the Bunsen burner, and the flame was suddenly drawn to her, igniting her hand. "Just like that. Now, who wants to go first?" Predictably, everybody's hand shot up into the air except Roxy's. "Alright, another question," said Maya, taking what looked like a necklace out of her pocket. "What is this?" Everyone was quickly thinking to themselves trying to recall the lessons of the entire week, but it was Roscoe who finally spoke up. "A dragonscale necklace that can amplify magical abilities?" "Correct, you get to go first," said Maya. Roscoe pumped his fist in excitement and quickly approached the cart, standing behind it so as to face the class. "Uh... what do I do?" "Just remember what we talked about in class and see which one you can get a reaction from," said Maya as she draped the necklace around Roscoe's neck. Roscoe took a deep breath and held his hand out towards the stuff on the cart. The necklace let out a dim glow as he did. Everyone was dead quiet as all eyes were on the cart. Then, without warning, the silence was broken by a loud popping noise and an explosion of confetti shot up in front of Roscoe's face, knocking him backwards off his feet as the rest of the class let out a collective shriek. "Sorry, little prank I pull on all my students," Maya laughed. "Very funny," Roscoe groaned as he tried to shake himself back to his senses, getting back up and returning to the cart, a bit more hesitant to approach it. Slowly, he placed his hand over each strange gizmo one at a time. Nothing seemed to happen until he reached the Bunsen burner. The light flickered towards his palm like it had with Maya earlier. The flickering became constant, and suddenly his hand was engulfed in flame. It looked like it should've been extremely painful, but Roscoe was more mesmerized by it. "Looks like you're an Ignaren just like me," said Maya. "Cool," Roscoe grinned looking at his flaming hand. He suddenly struck a pose like he was trying to throw a ball, but the flame on his hand extinguished. "Mr. Reed, were you attempting to throw a fireball in the auditorium?" said Maya. "Heh, no, of course not?" Roscoe smiled innocently as he took the necklace off and handed it back to Maya. "Alright, enough of that," said Maya as the rest of the class laughed. Roscoe went to rejoin the others, giving Tolbin and Will a high five as he did. "Next question. What is the earliest known reference to magic?" "Um... the dragon's gift?" this time it was the male skunk. "Correct, you're next Mr. Starr," said Maya. The skunk approached the cart in the same was Roscoe had. Maya placed the necklace on him as he placed his hand near the Bunsen burner, but this time there was no reaction. Slowly, he moved it down each device until he reached the small electric device, which started emitting an arc into the palm of his hand. "Excellent! A Fulmaren!" Maya said excitedly. The skunk let out a sigh of relief before removing the necklace and rejoining the silver fox, who was now surrounded by an aura of eagerness. Her outburst earlier seeming to have disappeared. "Next question," said Maya. "At what age can magic affinity be determined?" "Um... 12 years after birth?" This time, it was Arnold who answered. "Correct, go ahead Mr. Zetta," said Maya. Arnold looked almost as nervous as Roxy as he approached the cart. It didn't take long to figure out his element, as the first one he tried, the soil pot, gave him a reaction of building a small pile of dirt towards his hand. "A Gairen, wonderful," Maya smiled at him. "I knew I would be..." said Arnold, sounding a little depressed as he walked back to the group. Roxy felt like she had just gotten a glimpse of her future, just with fire instead of dirt. "Ok, next question," said Maya. "Why do we wait until age 14 to test magical affinity?" "Oh! Oh! Oh!' Serena's hand shot into the air. "To provide a safe and controlled environment?" "Very good Miss Milgran," said Maya. Serena happily skipped up towards the cart. She took a moment after receiving the necklace to place her hand in front of each device, but it was the water bucket that responded, as frozen ice shoots began to form and extend to her hand. "A Glacien! Excellent!" said Maya. Serena let out a happy giggle as she skipped back to the group. "Next question. How can magic affinity be assigned to a person?" "It's through your genes, right?" said Riley. "Incorrect," said Maya. "Anyone else?" "Life experiences can shape what your affinity is," said the cheetah girl. "Very good Miss Parr," said Maya. The girl gave Riley a snotty look as she approached the cart. It took a minute before anything gave her a reaction, this time it was the weather vane. "An Aeran," said Maya. "I do have to warn you not to try to get to the roof to practice flying, please." "Have students actually done that?" said the cheetah as she removed the necklace? "Unfortunately, yes," said Maya in an annoyed tone. "Alright, next question, and it's an easy one. True or false? Dragons will only commune with people who share their affinity." "No, dragons will commune with whoever they want," said Riley. "Very good, Mr. Rose," said Maya. Roxy found herself rather interested with Riley's turn. He was a red fox like her, so maybe he'd end up being an Ignaren too. As he approached the cart, the Bunsen burner was one of the first things he tried, but he got no reaction. He seemed to be focusing harder than anyone else had, keeping his eyes closed as he moved his hand across everything. Once again, it was the bucket of water that reacted, but this time it formed a ball of water. Riley didn't notice this until he opened his eyes. "Wh-wh-what is that!" he let out a shriek as he backed away from the cart, throwing the necklace to the floor, the water splashing back into the bucket. "That's normal," said Maya. "It just means you're an Aquaren." "N-n-no!" Riley stammered. "Fix it!" "Fix it?" Maya scratched her head. "I don't know what you mean." "I don't want it!" Riley was clearly panicking. "Make me something else!" "It doesn't work that way," said Maya. "But... but..." Riley was breathing heavily, a bit of sweat seemed to be dripping from his fur. "Maybe you should sit down," said Maya. Riley just nodded, walking past the group off the stage, taking a seat in the front row. "What was that about?" said Will, glancing over at Riley, who was huddled into a ball in his chair. "I guess he didn't like his element?" Roxy shrugged. "Alright, settle down," said Maya. "Next question. What is the law of magical use in common life?" "To be used responsibly without harm," this one came from the silver fox. "Ok Miss Kit, you're next," said Maya. She was absolutely giddy by now, seeming to have moved past her crying breakdown before class. Much like Arnold, the first thing she tried responded to her. This one the electric device. "We have another Fulmar-" "TONY!!! WE GOT THE SAME ONE!!!" The fox had thrown the necklace off and bolted full speed at her skunk friend, knocking him to the ground as she slammed into him. "Uh... Mr. Starr, are you ok?" Maya said. "Oh yeah, she does this a lot," said the skunk, somewhat muffled by the fox smothering him. "Alright, Miss Kit, let him up," said Maya, picking the necklace back up and the fox and skunk stood back up. "Next question. Define the symbiotic relationship of Lumaren and Umbran forces?" "Polar-opposites of the universal construct!" This time, it had been Tolbin and Will who answered at the exact same time. "Hmm, looks like we need a tie-breaker," said Maya as she approached them, pulling a pen out of her pocket, then putting both hands behind her back. "Ok boys, which hand?" "Uh... left?" said Will. "Right!" said Tolbin. Maya paused for a moment before pulling her hands out in clenched fists. She opened both of them to reveal the pen was gone. "Hmm, where did I put that?" She grabbed Will's ear, finding nothing. Then grabbing Tolbin's ear, the pen appeared in her hand. "Ah, there we go!" "Yes!" Tolbin grinned triumphantly. "Hey! That's not fair!" said Will. "Don't worry, Mr. Skysong. You can go next," said Maya. Will grumbled and folded his arms, but softened as he glanced over at Roxy. He knew she was running out of time before she would have to go. Tolbin wasted no time once he had the necklace. He tried each element, but it was the soil pot that reacted. "Aww man, I'm a Gairen?" "Are you gonna go cry about it with Doofus McPunchInTheFace," said the cheetah girl, pointing over her shoulder at Riley. "Shut up!" Riley shouted from his seat. "Enough, Miss Parr," said Maya as she took the necklace back from Tolbin. "Now then, it looks like we're left with the infamous Skysong twins." Everyone turned to Roxy and Will. Roxy instantly clutched her tail nervously. Will almost seemed to share her apprehension. "William, I did say you could go next," said Maya. Will sighed as he began to step forward, but Roxy grabbed his arm to stop him. He turned back to look at her receiving a look that said 'let me do this'. "Um... I'll let my sister go first," said Will. "Very well. Roxanne?" said Maya. Roxy let out a small whimper as she started to walk towards the cart. Maya handed her the necklace, which she draped over her neck. It felt like a heavy weight, despite not being much larger than a small rock. The cart loomed in front of her. Beyond that, everyone was staring at her. "Just do it Roxy..." she said to herself, taking a deep breath, then thrusting her hand towards the Bunsen burner. "...YEOUCH!!!" Roxy let out a cry of pain as she pulled her hand back, her middle finger instantly going into her mouth to ease the burn she had just got. "You don't just put your hand in the fire like that!" said Maya as the rest of the class let out a laugh. "Do you need to go to the nurse?" "No, I'm fine," said Roxy, taking her finger out of her mouth to survey the damage. It was just a bit of singed fur and flesh on the tip of her finger. Nothing serious. She took another deep breath and went back to the burner, this time placing her hand in front of it. She focused all she could on the flame, but it didn't budge. 'I'm not doing it right,' Roxy thought to herself as she tried to concentrate harder, her arm shaking a bit from her concentration. "Um, Miss Skysong," Maya interrupted. "I don't think that will work. Maybe try another one?" Roxy gulped as she took another look at the flame. Maybe she wasn't an Ignaren? That thought hadn't even crossed her mind. She felt a bit of excitement as she moved her hand to the bucket of water, seeing if she could get a reaction from that, but nothing happened. Neither the weather vane, soil pot, or electric arc responded either. "It's not working..." Roxy felt as if the necklace was tightening around her neck. "You're trying too hard," said Maya. "Just take a step back and relax." Roxy looked down at the necklace to make sure it still had the same dim glow it had for everyone else, which it did. That meant she was the problem. She let out a deep sigh and closed her eyes, trying to pretend she was all alone as she held her arm out towards the cart, beckoning anything to respond to her. A collective gasp knocked her out of her trance. Roxy opened her eyes to see what happened, and her breath was taken away by what was before her. Strands of light dancing through the air around her arm. Every single student has staring in disbelief. Even Rilen had rejoined everyone on stage to get a better look. Roxy had seen this before in Zoe Prower's class, but she couldn't believe it was the same thing. "Does this... am I..." Roxy was trying to string together any two words. "A Lumaren..." Maya was just as shocked as everyone else. Lumaren. A universal magic. Roxy just stared for a moment as the light bounced and danced around her arm. She felt calm seeing it. Like this somehow meant everything was alright. "I told you that you'd be something weird." Roxy lowered her arm, causing the light to disappear, seeing Will standing next to her, all smiles. "Ok, my turn," said Will, taking the necklace from Roxy. "Uh... William, could you actually wait one moment please?" said Maya with an air of urgency to her words as she seemed to be scribbling something onto several pieces of paper. "No way!" said Will, draping the necklace around his neck. "My sister has a universal magic! I'll probably have the same thing!" Will let his hand drape over the cart as he let himself focus. Roxy stayed at his side to see if the result would be the same for him. But no light appeared. Instead, the already dark stage seemed to get darker. Roxy felt a chill run through her spine as she saw Will start to become engulfed in darkness. The expression on his face had turned from excitement to shock. The students at the end of the stage seemed just as worried, many of the huddled together in fear, the silver fox girl having crumpled to the floor in a quivering heap. "Will! Stop!" Roxy shouted. "What... what am I..." Will seemed unable to stop, absolutely consumed by his power. It wasn't until a blinding flash of flame shot in front of his face before he was able to lower his arm, the chilling feeling disappearing, and the room light returning to normal. "Ok everyone, we're going to end class early," said Maya, taking the necklace and handing the paper scraps to the rest of the students. "You're excused to go... somewhere. Roxanne! William! Come with me!" "Will, c'mon, snap out of it," Roxy grabbed Will by the arm to drag him along after Maya. His face was frozen in fear, knowing that even though he didn't have the necklace, that power still existed within him. The two followed Maya out into the empty halls. Classes weren't supposed to be over for another 20 minutes. Where exactly were they being led? And why? Had they done something wrong? Roxy wanted to say something, but her head was still spinning, trying to process what had happened. She glanced over at Will, who had a glazed-over look in his eyes. Sure enough, Maya led them straight to the principal's office, which was empty except for the secretary at her desk, who jumped slightly as Maya barged in. "I need to see Malego," she said in a panicked tone, "It's an emergency!" "Um... well he's not busy at the moment, but-" "Great," Maya cut her off and just barged past her into Malego's office. If he was startled by her intrusion, he did not show it. "I'm sorry sir, but we have a problem." Malego glanced up from the papers on his desk that had held his attention previously, seeing Maya standing in the doorway with Roxy and Will right behind her, and his secretary bringing up the rear. "Come in," he said after a brief pause. Maya motioned for Roxy and Will to take a seat in front of Malego's desk as they stepped inside, the secretary shutting the door behind them. "So, what seems to be the problem?" Malego folded his hands in front of his face and stared straight at Roxy and Will, his piercing gaze sending a shiver down their spines. "Well sir..." Maya spoke up. "They were part of my final magic class of the day, and... there was an unusual occurance." "Explain," said Malego, not taking his gaze from Roxy and Will. "Roxanne and William had their turn, and..." Maya paused for a moment, "They're universal mages." Malego finally turned his gaze to Maya, though his expression didn't change much. "Meaning?" "Roxanne is a Lumaren, and William is an Umbran," said Maya. "I see," Malego turned his gaze back to Roxy and Will, his expression still frozen. "So what exactly is the issue?" "Forgive me sir, but I've never had universal magic show up in my entire career," said Maya. "It's usually recommended that Lumaren and Umbran be taught in private facilities." Roxy's heart skipped a beat. We're they about to be kicked out of school already? This didn't feel fair. They hadn't done anything wrong. Malego gave a deep sigh as he removed his glasses and turned his gaze back to Maya. "Miss Fenne, do you understand the principles of universal magic?" "Yes sir, but-" she replied. "Then there should be no reason you could not teach these students," said Malego. "Sir, the universal magics are dangerous," said Maya. "To the other students, and to themselves." "I understand that," said Malego. "And I know you understand that. But do they?" He motioned towards Roxy and Will. Roxy nervously clutched her tail. She hadn't known that, and it was making her even more nervous. She glanced over at Will. He looked like he was in a daze, his head hung just staring down at the floor, his arms shaking slightly. "As I see it, they should be treated no differently than any other student," said Malego. "I trust you will be able to handle that Miss Fenne?" Maya paused for a moment before replying, "Yes sir," she nodded. "Good," said Malego. "Now I believe the bell rung a few minutes ago, so I see no reason to take up any more of their time." Roxy was still a bit stunned. She wasn't sure what to do. "Um..." she finally managed to speak up. "Does that mean..." "You're free to go," said Malego, his attention having been diverted away from them. Roxy and Will slowly stood up as Maya led them out of the office back into the hallways, which were now flooded with students. "Well then..." Maya turned towards them. "I suppose I will see you Monday..." she said nervously before walking away. They stood rooted in front of the office for a moment, neither of them still having fully processed the events of the last half hour. Universal magic? Them? It didn't seem real. What do you even do with that kind of power? Neither of them wanted to break the awkward silence between them, instead just silently shuffling off towards the entrance hall. Neither one a word with each other as they stashed their books away. Roxy was expecting to wake up from whatever dream this was at any second. She caught a glance at Will as she removed her school shoes. Will was staring off towards the entrance, seemingly in a daze. It took a moment for her to notice Tolbin and Roscoe near the exit, looking like they were trying to avoid him. The bus ride wasn't any more pleasant. For the first time, Serena and Arnold didn't sit near them. Roxy was starting to feel like she should say something. She kept glancing over at Will, who looked like he was in a trance. She kept meaning to speak up, but she had no idea what to say. It was still hard to believe the events of today were real. She just clenched her tail and tried not to think about it. At long last, the bus dumped them out at their usual stop. Will remained silent as he shuffled off the bus, not even caring that Roxy was following him. "Roxy! A friendly voice! She was actually surprised to hear someone say her name at this point. She spun around to see Serena approaching her. "That was really impressive what you did today," she said with a smile, which quickly turned nervous as her eyes darted towards Will. "And... I'm sorry about your brother." Roxy didn't know how to respond to that. She started to say something, but Serena had already started to walk away, leaving Roxy alone as the bus drove off. Will had already started to walk away, seemingly taking no interest in Roxy or Serena. Still feeling weird about the whole situation, Roxy quickly ran to catch up to Will. He remained silent, just continuing down the road, still in a haze. Roxy cringed at how awkward things felt. She couldn't stand it anymore. She had to say something. "So... that was weird, huh?" Will remained silent. "I mean... universal magic? What do we even do with that?" Will still didn't respond. "I guess... I'll come in handy if the power goes out?" The silence was unbearable. "Damnit Will! Say something!" Will finally came to a halt. He was silent for a moment, before uttering a single word. "Umbran..." Roxy just stared for a second, not sure how to react. "I... I don't..." "I'm an Umbran," said Will. "My skill is darkness. The negative energy of the universe." "Well... yeah," said Roxy. "That is how it works..." "And what does that say about me?" Will turned to face Roxy finally. She gasped at the sight of tears in his eyes. "Will... it doesn't say anything..." Roxy said nervously. She had never seen him like this, "The hell it doesn't," Will growled. "You saw what happened. That's my whole life, decided right there!" "That's not true..." Roxy stammered. "Hey kid! Guess what? You get to wield the power of evil!" Will was shouting now, a couple tears streaming down his muzzle. "That doesn't mean you're evil!" Roxy said, starting to feel really nervous. "Oh sure it doesn't," said Will sarcastically. "Plenty of ways to be an anthrotarian with the power of evil behind you!" Roxy moved towards him and grabbed his arm. "But you don't have to-" "Don't touch me!" Will pulled his arm away and stepped backwards, staring at Roxy like he didn't even know who she was. A deafening silence held in the air between them as neither moved. Roxy was too scared to say anything as Will started to back away again before turning and running towards the house. Roxy tried to call out to him, to say something, anything that would fix this situation. But nothing came. Never in her life had Roxy felt more alone. It should have been all she ever wanted. Instead, it felt cold and crushing. She could only stand there in silence and try to process everything. The world felt flipped. Any excitement she had felt earlier was replaced by fear and confusion. She clearly didn't completely comprehend the ramifications of these power's that her and her brother had found themselves with. A loud honk snapped Roxy out of her daze. She jumped out of the way of the car that had appeared behind her onto the lawn. She shook herself back to her senses and turned back to the house. She was worried about Will. "Roxanne, what happened at school today?" She was quickly greeted by her mother at the door. Will was nowhere to be seen in the living room, which differed from his usual routine of slumping on the couch in front of the TV for several hours after school. "Where's Will?" Roxy finally said. "He just ran straight up to his room and locked the door," said her mother. "We had our magic identifications today," said Roxy, sitting down on the couch. "I'm a Lumaren." Even saying it still felt wrong. "Will is an Umbran." Her mother's eyes widened. "Universal magic? But... how?" "I don't know," Roxy clenched her legs tight to her as she gripped her tail. "That's amazing!" Her mother flung her arms around Roxy's shoulders. "I'm so proud of you two!" "Mom!" Roxy tried to struggle free of the hug. "I think Will was upset by the whole thing." Her mother released her. "Oh... I'm sure he's just in a bit of shock over the whole thing. Let him cool off." Roxy quickly retreated to her room, slumping on the bed and staring up at the ceiling. The sound of incredibly angsty music was drifting through the wall from Will's room. She never thought she would need to worry about him, but the look on his face when she had taken his arm was burned into her mind. He couldn't really think he was destined to be evil just from being an Umbran, could he? "MAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!" Roxy jumped a bit as she turned to see Corrin on the floor, peering up at her. His happy looking face was enough to break her out of her funk. "Oh, right. You're probably hungry," she said, reaching into her backpack and pulling out an unopened bag of spicy BBQ chips, ripping it open, and placing it in front of Corrin, who's head quickly disappeared into the bag. "Hey... wanna see something cool?" said Roxy. Corrin pulled his head back out, mouth still full of chips. Roxy held her finger out and reached deep down inside her, looking for that same power she felt earlier that day. It took a moment, but a few strands of lights appeared from the tip of her finger. She waved it slowly in front of Corrin, who was quickly mesmerized by the strange light. He gave the strands a sniff as they faded away, let out a sneeze that singed Roxy's sheets, and went back to his chips.
