The rest of the world had been developing creative new methods for storing narrative tales, and in doing so, had created many new forms of conveying the art. He didn't just want the stories, he wanted different cuts and edits of the stories, different models of hardware, he wanted to chronicle the development of the technology and culture as much as he wanted the stories themselves. His collection developed neatly but never really took up much more than a single two floor building in town.\n\nHe saw frequent traffic, but such new developments were a bit more a novelty or curiosity up in the Peaks of his homeland. He decided to search for a more down-to-earth location and found several, as well as means of speaking with new people who showed far greater enthusiasm for his goods than he'd seen back home. Then he learned of his uncle's death.\n\nHis uncle had not been the most sociable, but the few interactions Aurum had had were pleasant enough. In Gryphon culture, it is considered an insulting disgrace to refuse inheritance, and almost exile worthy if the rejected inheritance is a collection. When Aurum went to make the transfer official, he learned there were some strings attached to this particular inheritance.\n\nAurum's uncle was in a religious order, that much the family knew. What he did not know was that the collection had a strong link with the uncle's involvement with the order. So, to gain access to his uncle's collection, Aurum had to join the order.\n\nThe Order of the Aetherial Dawn, which many used as a joke of something made up or exagerrated, like the Illuminati or Detroit, almost fit the jokes. Almost. The world was known to have dangers lurking in the wilderness, but some of those dangers had been trying to find their way into civilization for millennia. Some of them could be halted by the average family, through use of superstition or habits, most of which were divulged through nursery rhymes and scary stories. The Order was more concerned with those that needed special training to fight. Aurum also noticed their use of the word \"wilderness\" seemed to be a bit more broad than he'd heard before.\n\nHe took nine years to complete his training, ascension, and induction into the Order, longer than average, though he lacked the prior experience most operatives had going in. Upon completion, he received his pendant, a holy symbol of the religion as a whole, depicting a radiant sun as the alchemical symbol for gold, which coincidentally was called aurum by the old science. The pendant itself being made of pure gold with a ring of silver in the design.
