They were on one of the top floors of the building so he could see the dark expanse for miles. There were a few emergency lights but backup generators would only last so long. They needed to restore power to the city soon. \n\nThe only other lights that could be seen were those of the whirling blue and red of the police. They didn’t stand a chance against the alien technology wielded by the Purple Dragons. If Hun started a citywide take over, there was nothing the New York police could do to stop him. \n\nTurning from the window, Leonardo looked at his team. Though Raphael had recovered, he was still not at his full potential, and Tello and the girls were green by comparison. Splinter and Sliver had decided that they would join the fight. Even Donatello, who had the most reason to stay behind, stood ready. \n\nIt had been a heated discussion between Leatherhead and Donatello over who would be the one to go. They only thing they could agree on was that one of them had to stay for the sake of their children. Begrudgingly, Leatherhead backed down, acknowledging that Donny and his brothers fought best as a team. \n\nThey weren’t going to fight alone. Leatherhead, April and, Dr. Chaplin were coordinating the teams from Foot Headquarters. They were in communication with each team leader. Karai and her Foot Soldiers were already on the move, protecting the city from the shadows as best they could without interfering with the police. \n\nIt had been decided that Leonardo and his team would be the ones to stop Hun. He had been a blight on the city for long enough. \n\nLeo’s eyes drifted to Rachael. He didn’t want her to go on the mission. He didn’t want any of them to go. Leonardo had to push down his fear of losing a loved one and place the need of the city and its people over everything else. \n \n“Let’s go.”\n\nLeonardo, Donatello, and Tello each had a special earpiece so that they could stay in communication with the other teams on the ground and headquarters. The others had smaller devices tucked in their belts for a quick message if they got separated. \n\nThe building had reliable generator that could keep the emergency systems operational for several weeks if needed. They all hoped that the city’s main power would be restored sooner than that. If the city was in darkness for too long, it would only be a matter of time before riots broke out, if they hadn’t already. \n\nThey took the one working elevator down to the garage. Taking a vehicle was out of the question. Traffic during the blackout would make their trek longer than if they went on foot. \n\nThe darkness made a rooftop run impossible and the sewers were going to be even more dangerous. So, they had to take the roads on foot, sticking to the shadows as they made their way through the chaotic city. \n\nPolice were going to be out in droves in an attempt to prevent thugs from taking advantage of the blackout. The thugs were something the police were equipped to handle. Hun was a much larger threat. \n\nDonatello had been able to pinpoint Hun’s location simply by following the power drain. Though outward appearances made it look like the building was also affected by the outage, Donny had been able to detect the heat signature of something large inside. \n\nThey couldn’t even begin to guess what Hun was up to. The past few years, his only goal seemed to be cornering the drug market. He never sold his high-tech weapons. They gave him an advantage and was used to overrun the other cartels. His empire was secure. What more could he want? \n\nDonny had suggested, “Maybe Hun is trying to bring Shredder from another dimension into ours”. That worry was one that was a constant for him. Even after watching Shredder die, Donny feared he would somehow return. The knowledge that there were so many dimensions where Shredder still lived plagued him. \n\n“How would Hun even figure that out,” Raph countered. “Even though he’s stockpiled Triceriton tech, he ain’t smart enough to build a portal machine out of it and Stockman’s still with Bishop.”\n\n“What else could he be up to,” Donny asked as they made their way through the city. \n\n“That’s what we’re going to find out,” Leonardo answered. “Whatever he’s up to, we are going to stop him.”\n\nIt took them a better part of an hour to get to their destination. Slipping through the shadows on a typical night in the city was a lot easier than trying to do it during an emergency. \n\nThey had been expected. The Purple Dragons were there to meet them with blasters in hand. Hun knew that his actions would draw the Turtles to him and he was ready for them. \n\nIn the hands of skilled soldiers, those blasters would have given their foes an advantage. If they were up against Bishop and his men with these weapons, the Turtles wouldn’t stand a chance. Fortunately for the Turtles, the Purple Dragons weren’t the best or brightest of fighters. \n\nCutting through the first line of defense was done without any injuries taken from his team. Inside the building they were met with darkness. \n\nThey slipped on the special headgear that the trio of purple banded turtles had made to help them see in the dark and protected their eyes from sudden flashes of light. The power cells on the headgear was limited, which was why they had to hold off on using them until now.\n\nLeo was more concerned over any sudden flashes of light than making his way through the darkness. Using his chi, Leo felt more than saw his environment. He knew that there were men waiting for them in the next room. \n\nHe signaled to his team to proceed with caution. \n\n“There is no activity at any of the known Purple Dragon hideouts,” Karai said over the radio. “We are on our way to assist you.”\n\nAs expected, they were met with a flash of light meant to blind them. The headgear did as it was supposed to and shielded their eyes. Purple Dragons fell around them as they were met with the full force of the turtle team. \n\nThe room they were in was well lit so they removed their headgear. There was a large machine in the middle and Purple Dragons flooded the room to fight the Turtles. \n\nSome of the Dragons were former Foot soldiers and proved to be harder to fight than the common tugs that had fought them outside. Some had been mutated, their amplified strength making them formidable adversaries. \n\nHun laughed in the distance and he bellowed over the noise of battle. “Even after all I have done, you’ve managed to come back stronger. Did you mutate yourselves some girlfriends? Maybe after I kill you, I’ll keep one for myself. Which one’s your girl, Raphael? Or, did I ugly you up too much for one to like you?”\n\nHe was looking over the railing from a platform above them. He had a wild smile on his face and a terrifying glint of joy in his eyes. \n\n“Better looking than you’ve ever been,” Raph roared as he crashed through a group of Purple Dragons in an attempt to get at Hun. He would have to fight up a spiraling flight of metal stairs to get to him. Tactically, it put him at a disadvantage. \n\n“Don’t let him goad you,” Leo called out. “Stay focused.”\n\n“I am focused,” Raph yelled back, “on killing him.”\n\nDonna, Donny, and Tello managed to fight their way to the source of the power drain. The others, minus Raph who was still trying to get to Hun, held off the Dragons so that they could figure out how to shut it down. \n\n“What does this thing even do,” Tello yelled in frustration as he scanned the large device. \n\nDonna replied, “It looks like it just drains power.”\n\n“Why would Hun make something like that?” Donny argued, unable to accept Donna’s observation. “What would be the point? This has to do something more.”\n\n“I think that’s a receiver,” Tello said as he pointed to it. \n\n“Then it would be in out best interest to figure out how to block the signal,” Donna said. \n\n“Unless blocking the signal detonates something,” Tello countered. “We have to figure out what this does.”\n\nLeo took a moment to check on Raph. There was a swarm of Dragons between them and he was halfway up the stairs. Splinter was fighting his way through the Dragons to get to him. \n\nRaphael was almost to the top of the stairs. \n\nHun smiled. “Watch your loved ones die.” Lifting his hand, Hun revealed that he held a small device and pushed the button. \n\nThere was a loud, sharp, metallic clank. It took a moment to process what had happened. The fighting had stopped from the shock of it. Three Dragons were dead, a spinning blade had passed through two of them before coming to a stop, imbedded in the third. \n\nIt took longer for Leo to realize that the blade had first passed Mikey, close enough to sever his left arm clean off, just below the shoulder. His little brother stood pail faced and in shock as his mind tried to process what had just happened. \n\nHun laughed, “Perfect,” and readied to push the button again. He was willing to sacrifice his own men to make Raph suffer. \n\nLeonardo felt sick. “Move,” he shouted but there was no way of knowing what would happen next. \n\nThe room exploded into chaos. The Purple Dragons had stopped fighting and were racing for the exits, but the doors had shut and locked at some point during the fight. They were all trapped in the room. Raph was still trying to get at Hun with renewed vigor, trying desperately to prevent him from pushing the button again. \n\nLeonardo pulled a shuriken from his belt and threw it towards the device in Hun’s hand. It reached seconds after Hun had pressed the button a second time. \n\nThere was a flash of something that streaked past Leo, close enough that it sliced across the bridge between his eyes. His mask fell, cut in half. Blood filled his vision before blocking his view entirely. \n\nStumbling back, he cried out in pain but it was drowned out by the cries of others. He swore he heard his father’s voice in the mix. The gut-wrenching feeling that this was the end filled him with dread. \n\n“I’ve got you,” Rachael said, coming up beside him. She pressed something against the wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding. \n\n“Are you alright,” Leo asked her. \n\n“One of the bolts shot by my arm,” she replied. “I’m bleeding a bit but I’m okay. Leah’s not so lucky. She took one through the shoulder.”\n\n“We have to stop Hun from pushing the button again,” Leo said, worried over what would come next. \n\n“Your father’s taken care of it,” Rachael said, holding Leo down. “He won’t be a problem anymore.”\n\nAlmost too afraid to ask, Leo said, “Did we lose anyone?”\n\nRachael took a slow steading breath. “There are a few who are hurt bad but as long as we can get some medical help soon, everyone should be fine.”\n\n“Can you stand?” The question came from Donny. \n\nLeo nodded and he was helped to his feet. \n\n“I got that monstrous device shut down and power’s been restored to the city,” Donny said as he guided Leo. “Karai’s on her way with some vans. Keep steady pressure on the wound. Don’t let up.” There was a moment of pause. “Father killed Hun.”\n\n“Rachael told me,” Leo replied. “But, she didn’t say how.”\n\n“There was rage in Splinter’s eyes after he caught sight of what happened to Mikey,” Donny said. “With the Dragons fleeing he was able to leap to the railing, bound his way up to Hun and then… separated his head from his body.”\n\n“Leonardo!” Karai’s call came from a distance as she rushed forward to check on Leo. “How bad is it?”\n\n“It hurts a lot,” Leo said.\n\n“I don’t know yet,” Donatello replied at the same time. \n\n“We tried to get in sooner,” Karai said, “but the building locked down after you had entered.”\n\n“The area needs to be cleared of all Triceriton technology,” Leo said, taking command despite his injury. “And, we need to collect Hun’s body and the bodies of any other mutants. None of this can fall into the hands of anyone else.”\n\n“I agree,” Karai stated as a cool breeze signified that they had exited the building. “This is why my men were darting the mutated Purple Dragons as they exited the building and they are scouring the city for any others. And, we are raiding all known Purple Dragon warehouses.”\n\nLeonardo was guided into a van. Rachael stayed by his side, holding the cloth in place while others were brought in after them. He felt Splinter’s hand on his arm. Leonardo placed his hand over his father’s and gave it a gentle squeeze, managing a soft smile for him. \n\nSplinter moved on to check on the others. Leaning his head back, Leo tried to think of how they could have handled things differently but all he wanted to do was rest. \n\nAt least they managed to end Hun’s threat to the city. With him gone, they no longer had to worry about the police or the civilians they tried to protect coming in contact with something beyond their capabilities.\n\nAnd, they were all alive. Broken, but alive. \n","writing_bbcode_parsed":"<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>Leonardo looked out over the city.
