His yellow tail eased from under the sheets without disturbing his bed mate, though the dragon looked back with a soft smile that may have not resided on his lips if Leland had been awake.\n\nHe wouldn’t have wanted the blue drake to see. Not yet. If ever.\n\nHm…\n\nNate shook his head. He didn’t really know what to think about that, not at all. It was one thing to pursue Leland for so long, slowly easing into his good graces in the art group they were in and getting him to meet up for coffee, then dinner. Nate wasn’t at all ashamed to say he was attracted to the other dragon, but taking things beyond that into a more intimate side… Well… That hadn’t ever really been his style.\n\nAnd there he was: the morning after a wonderful night in bed with Leland. \n\nBut everything was fine, just fine, Nate told himself firmly as he paced lightly through his flat to the kitchen, taking quiet, easy steps so he didn’t wake his bed mate. Everything was fine, so he had nothing to worry about.\n\nYet his stomach still churned at the mere notion of “letting someone else in.” He’d already said too much, mentioning some slivers of his younger years and his father who had left before, well…before a father ever should have. It may well have been the sort of thing he could have talked about with friends or even a therapist, letting more and more out over the years, but, even though Nate had reached his late twenties, he’d remained closed-off.\n\nAnd just where had that left him? Nate grunted and leaned over the kitchen counter, his tail drooping behind him so the pointed, yellow-spade time nearly dragged on the linoleum. It hadn’t got him anywhere, that was what. Yet every time he wanted to be more open, to say something more…he closed up. Like a steel trap snapped shut around his jaws, they were clamped again, a sick feeling of cold-heat crawling through him, stomach roiling.\n\nSex was different, kind of. It felt like those barriers he’d put up – for good reason – were down, though he hadn’t attempted to cross the boundary yet. Having that sense of openness and vulnerability, however, when he was balls-deep in a partner, was very different matter.\n\nHe closed his eyes, humming lightly under his breath. The closeness of sex was unlike anything Nate could get anywhere else and he pursed his lips to think of how he had been rather promiscuous in his early twenties. Although that had seen him engaging in somewhat risky behaviour, he hadn’t come out of it with any ill-effects, for which the drake was grateful. If he’d thought about some pretty basic things, such as simply using a damn condom with random encounters, perhaps things would have been a lot less risky.\n\nBut it was too late for that. He’d simply been caught up in the moment, drawn back to new sexual partners again and again, wanting that softness, that pull of vulnerability, even if it ended up brief. Some partners hung around after the deed was done and others were gone, as if he was nothing to them. He didn’t honestly remember the ins and outs of many and even the names of some, so Nate didn’t feel like he could complain. At least he could say, with those past experiences, they’d got something the needed from one another. Maybe that was enough, even in the clarity of hindsight.\n\nHe had not had to chase down Leland. Nate sighed and shuffled his wings against his back, though he was not of the class of dragons that had wings large enough to fly with: they were more for show and, if ever needed, dominance and intimidation for his kind of dragon. Leland had been a hard chase and yet a quarry that he wanted to claim for his own, to be tucked in against the other dragon. Even to protect him too – though Leland seemed more than capable of that himself.\n\nBarely even thinking clearly, he reached out slowly, his fingers seeming to take a longer time than usual to span the gap between his body and the coffee machine. He’d already loaded it up with two pods for the morning – why had he done that? How could he possibly have known, or still hope, that Leland would be around for coffee after the act?\n\nHis stomach ached and he pressed a hand absently to it, breath hitching in his chest. Ah, there was that old tightness back again, but Nate couldn’t let it control him. He shook it off bodily, taking a step back from the counter. Maybe it was ever so slightly silly to take things like that, but he shook out each leg in turn, flexing his toes and curling them, letting the shake travel up his body to wiggle his hips and shake out his arms too. That was a silly little trick he’d picked up some time back, but he’d found it quite interesting how it made him feel lighter. Perhaps it was just the fact he felt daft doing such a thing – especially when he was naked.\n\nUnlike some dragons, his shaft did not retract into a slit at the base of his abdomen and his balls too were externally held. Leland was the same, though his cock was differently shaped to his. His shaft was ridged and light, so it could look a little unusual when it was soft, but it had a thickly defined head when it was hard with a ridged nuance to the glands. That was a little difficult to pop into a partner, but he had never not managed to do so.\n\nLeland, on the other hand, had a big, smooth cock with a rounded tip. It was almost like the shafts of some of the mammalian anthros he’d slept with, though Nate could not say he was fussy over dicks in the slightest. Even in his rampant, open sexuality, he was still more attracted to the anthro the shaft was attached to rather than only their genitalia. The skin of his shaft was a paler blue and he shivered at the memory of running his thumb, and then his tongue, over the smoothly slick head the night before.\n\nDamn. He really wanted to do that again.\n\nHe was so caught up in his thoughts, however, that he didn’t notice Leland entering the kitchen, the drake giving him a run for his money when it came to stealth. Leland slipped his hands around the dragon’s bare torso and Nate jumped as his stomach was caressed. Even though he didn’t have visible abs there at the moment, they were still strong under a slight layer of fat on his body. He would have been more comfortable with the touch if he was leaner, but winter was so often a time where he felt he was better to bulk in the gym and not be as strict with his diet. Everyone had to rest a little at some point, after all.\n\n“Mmm, hey,” he murmured, once his mind caught up with who it was there with him. “I didn’t think you were awake yet.”\n\n“Hm, heard you padding around, had to come check it out,” Leland said with a toothy grin. “Doing coffee?”\n\nNate nodded, a strange heat warming his cheeks. That was odd.\n\n“Yeah,” he said, pulling away only so he could turn and face Leland. “You like that over tea, right? Sorry, I can’t do an iced one for you today.”\n\nHe meant to go on and say that he had looked at how to do that at home, with a shot of coffee, but he hadn’t got the kit he needed for it yet – to do it properly. The instant pod-coffees were one thing, but iced ones were most certainly Leland’s preference.\n\nLeland’s lips pressed a little tighter together, the scales at the corners of his eyes, fine and delicate, creasing ever so slightly.\n\n“Nate, you didn’t have to go to all that trouble for me, you know.”\n\n“Huh?” He rubbed the back of his neck. “What trouble? I didn’t even manage to get it. For you.”\n\n“Mm, but you thought about it and you looked into it,” Leland said more gently, something softening in the blue dragon, reaching out to brush the backs of his fingers over Nate’s cheek. “And that… That means something too.”\n\n\n\n\n\nEnd preview.\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you for reading! Nate groaned, the crimson-scaled dragon slowly sliding from the warmth of his bed and stretching his arms, one after the other, out above his head. His yellow tail eased from under the sheets without disturbing his bed mate, though the dragon looked back with a soft smile that may have not resided on his lips if Leland had been awake.
He wouldn’t have wanted the blue drake to see. Not yet. If ever.

Nate shook his head. He didn’t really know what to think about that, not at all. It was one thing to pursue Leland for so long, slowly easing into his good graces in the art group they were in and getting him to meet up for coffee, then dinner. Nate wasn’t at all ashamed to say he was attracted to the other dragon, but taking things beyond that into a more intimate side… Well… That hadn’t ever really been his style.
And there he was: the morning after a wonderful night in bed with Leland.
But everything was fine, just fine, Nate told himself firmly as he paced lightly through his flat to the kitchen, taking quiet, easy steps so he didn’t wake his bed mate. Everything was fine, so he had nothing to worry about.
Yet his stomach still churned at the mere notion of “letting someone else in.” He’d already said too much, mentioning some slivers of his younger years and his father who had left before, well…before a father ever should have. It may well have been the sort of thing he could have talked about with friends or even a therapist, letting more and more out over the years, but, even though Nate had reached his late twenties, he’d remained closed-off.
And just where had that left him? Nate grunted and leaned over the kitchen counter, his tail drooping behind him so the pointed, yellow-spade time nearly dragged on the linoleum. It hadn’t got him anywhere, that was what. Yet every time he wanted to be more open, to say something more…he closed up. Like a steel trap snapped shut around his jaws, they were clamped again, a sick feeling of cold-heat crawling through him, stomach roiling.
Sex was different, kind of. It felt like those barriers he’d put up – for good reason – were down, though he hadn’t attempted to cross the boundary yet. Having that sense of openness and vulnerability, however, when he was balls-deep in a partner, was very different matter.
He closed his eyes, humming lightly under his breath. The closeness of sex was unlike anything Nate could get anywhere else and he pursed his lips to think of how he had been rather promiscuous in his early twenties. Although that had seen him engaging in somewhat risky behaviour, he hadn’t come out of it with any ill-effects, for which the drake was grateful. If he’d thought about some pretty basic things, such as simply using a damn condom with random encounters, perhaps things would have been a lot less risky.
But it was too late for that. He’d simply been caught up in the moment, drawn back to new sexual partners again and again, wanting that softness, that pull of vulnerability, even if it ended up brief. Some partners hung around after the deed was done and others were gone, as if he was nothing to them. He didn’t honestly remember the ins and outs of many and even the names of some, so Nate didn’t feel like he could complain. At least he could say, with those past experiences, they’d got something the needed from one another. Maybe that was enough, even in the clarity of hindsight.
He had not had to chase down Leland. Nate sighed and shuffled his wings against his back, though he was not of the class of dragons that had wings large enough to fly with: they were more for show and, if ever needed, dominance and intimidation for his kind of dragon. Leland had been a hard chase and yet a quarry that he wanted to claim for his own, to be tucked in against the other dragon. Even to protect him too – though Leland seemed more than capable of that himself.
Barely even thinking clearly, he reached out slowly, his fingers seeming to take a longer time than usual to span the gap between his body and the coffee machine. He’d already loaded it up with two pods for the morning – why had he done that? How could he possibly have known, or still hope, that Leland would be around for coffee after the act?
His stomach ached and he pressed a hand absently to it, breath hitching in his chest. Ah, there was that old tightness back again, but Nate couldn’t let it control him. He shook it off bodily, taking a step back from the counter. Maybe it was ever so slightly silly to take things like that, but he shook out each leg in turn, flexing his toes and curling them, letting the shake travel up his body to wiggle his hips and shake out his arms too. That was a silly little trick he’d picked up some time back, but he’d found it quite interesting how it made him feel lighter. Perhaps it was just the fact he felt daft doing such a thing – especially when he was naked.
Unlike some dragons, his shaft did not retract into a slit at the base of his abdomen and his balls too were externally held. Leland was the same, though his cock was differently shaped to his. His shaft was ridged and light, so it could look a little unusual when it was soft, but it had a thickly defined head when it was hard with a ridged nuance to the glands. That was a little difficult to pop into a partner, but he had never not managed to do so.
Leland, on the other hand, had a big, smooth cock with a rounded tip. It was almost like the shafts of some of the mammalian anthros he’d slept with, though Nate could not say he was fussy over dicks in the slightest. Even in his rampant, open sexuality, he was still more attracted to the anthro the shaft was attached to rather than only their genitalia. The skin of his shaft was a paler blue and he shivered at the memory of running his thumb, and then his tongue, over the smoothly slick head the night before.
Damn. He really wanted to do that again.
He was so caught up in his thoughts, however, that he didn’t notice Leland entering the kitchen, the drake giving him a run for his money when it came to stealth. Leland slipped his hands around the dragon’s bare torso and Nate jumped as his stomach was caressed. Even though he didn’t have visible abs there at the moment, they were still strong under a slight layer of fat on his body. He would have been more comfortable with the touch if he was leaner, but winter was so often a time where he felt he was better to bulk in the gym and not be as strict with his diet. Everyone had to rest a little at some point, after all.
“Mmm, hey,” he murmured, once his mind caught up with who it was there with him. “I didn’t think you were awake yet.”
“Hm, heard you padding around, had to come check it out,” Leland said with a toothy grin. “Doing coffee?”
Nate nodded, a strange heat warming his cheeks. That was odd.
“Yeah,” he said, pulling away only so he could turn and face Leland. “You like that over tea, right? Sorry, I can’t do an iced one for you today.”
He meant to go on and say that he had looked at how to do that at home, with a shot of coffee, but he hadn’t got the kit he needed for it yet – to do it properly. The instant pod-coffees were one thing, but iced ones were most certainly Leland’s preference.
Leland’s lips pressed a little tighter together, the scales at the corners of his eyes, fine and delicate, creasing ever so slightly.
“Nate, you didn’t have to go to all that trouble for me, you know.”
“Huh?” He rubbed the back of his neck. “What trouble? I didn’t even manage to get it. For you.”
“Mm, but you thought about it and you looked into it,” Leland said more gently, something softening in the blue dragon, reaching out to brush the backs of his fingers over Nate’s cheek. “And that… That means something too.”
