I forget the situation, whether it was a regular thing or a time of emergency, but once in a while, they would choose a child to sacrifice. They'd feed her good foods for a little while up to her death, then just before, they'd get her drunk with this special drink, dress her in the best textiles to please the gods or something, then kill the child.\n\nI'm a little fuzzy on the details, but...
