In 2008, I left Christianity after seeing basically nothing of the Jesus of the Bible anywhere in the faith as I had experienced it up to that point. It wasn't because I hated Jesus or wanted to sin; it was because out of all the horrible things that my church pastors warned me about \"the world\" doing, the vast majority came not from \"the world,\" but from within our own congregation.\n\nBut I never really felt \"at home\" anywhere else. I wanted to follow Jesus, I just couldn't reconcile so much of how I had been treated with the man who I'd read about in the Gospels. Plus, there are numerous other things as well that I had to try to reconcile: my love of dragons, my love of pornography, my bisexuality, and a whole host of other things that make me who I am.\n\nRecently I came to the realization that I have been cursed. Not by God, but by a woman I used to be in love with. I won't go into the dark details of this bit of nastiness, I'll just say that this is what ultimately led me to come back to Jesus. I've been bouncing back and forth for the last few years on this, but I'm not getting any younger and I want to get back to living my life. I had dreams of serving Him before I left... I just never carried them out because of so much of the fear-inducing doctrines of the church I attended (the Rapture, doubting my salvation, being constantly compared unfavorably to others as if belief in Christ was somehow a kind of zero-sum game and not the personal relationship that it actually is), and of course all the things I love being considered \"sinful\" by my church certainly didn't help things.\n\nThis image is a redraw of an older image. Originally, I drew it as a sketch, all the way back in 2015, and it was of the Pagan Goddess that I used to claim to be, having sex with Jesus. At the time I drew the original I knew it was blasphemy, but I didn't see the blasphemy itself for what it was. It wasn't that it was a picture of Jesus having sex: it was that his partner was a pagan goddess.\n\nJesus is the Head of the church, just like in the marriages of his time the man is the Head of the household. The Church is described as His Bride in many places. As I am a believer again, I feel it highly appropriate to use this image replacing the Pagan Goddess with my scalesona.\n\nIf you like this image, great. But in the words of a former pastor, if you don't like it... well, that's great too, because I drew this as an expression of my love for the Lord, not to please people.
