I’ve been really, really busy, because I picked up another writing project – a new D&D campaign.\n\nI didn’t intend to have a game running while I was at school. I thought I might join a game and play casually, but it turns out most of the existing games are really clique-ish, and I wasn’t inspired to try through the school’s organization. I did meet the “Gaming Alliance” guys at that drive for the school clubs I went to with Pyotr, but they are super-dorky! Like, way worse than me. And they still felt like a clique! At their meeting, however, I met this calico cat named Curtis. He’s pretty funny, and we hit it off right away. He’s a freshman, like me, and he’s kind of heavy, but not as heavy as I am. He was hoping to find a game, and, once we realized we weren’t going to find anything we liked, we went off together to grab lunch.\n\nWe hung out and talked a lot about gaming. I told him about the campaigns I’d run back home, and he told me I should start my own game, so I’m gonna. I’ll probably use a bunch of ideas I had from before, and put it together to make something new. I’ve been working on it the last few weeks, which is why I haven’t had much of a chance to write. Now, I think I’m ready, so Curtis and I are going to put up a flyer in the Student Union and post on the extra-curricular activities forum about it.\n\nPyotr seemed kind of disappointed I didn’t sign up for the Glee Club and the theater group with him. He’s really into musical theater, I guess, and I love it, too, but I don’t know if I could get up on a stage in front of the whole school and perform, even in a group. That’s scary! I did hear Pyotr’s audition, though. He’s got an awesome voice! I hear they might be doing Man of La Mancha as the winter musical, and I told him he had to try auditioning for the lead role.\n\nClasses have been going pretty well. I’m doing really well in English, but that’s always been my strongest subject. It’s surprising me how well I’m doing in History! I was never that good at it, but Professor Zapruski just makes it so…alive. I really find myself listening to him. I can tell he notices how interested I am, because he comes back and seems to speak to me directly a lot.\n\nI wish I could tell you that I was doing well in my other classes. Sociology just isn’t grabbing me. I mean, I’m not flunking out or anything, but I just can’t seem to get my head around it enough for Professor Lane’s liking. Computer Science…well, my grades should be good, but Professor Barnes seems to have it out for me.\n\nI mentioned that I was tutoring Roscoe Farris. Well, Roscoe takes up a lot of my homework time, and so some of my own work is suffering a little. Professor Barnes pulled me aside the other day and told me that I couldn’t carry Roscoe’s weight in class. I promised him that I wasn’t doing Roscoe’s homework for him or anything. He said that Roscoe’s homework seemed derivative of mine. Whoops! I guess I was so caught up in making sure Roscoe’s work got done, I didn’t think that it would end up looking like he cheated off of me.\n\nProfessor Barnes got really heated when I defended Roscoe. “He doesn’t belong in this class, Mr. Pindot,” he told me. “Don’t let him drag you down.” I tried to say that Roscoe was having some trouble because of the size of his hands vs. the size of the keyboards. I’d seen some keyboards made for larger furs at PAX East last year, and I mentioned them to Professor Barnes. He got upset, saying that the school barely had money enough for the materials we had. It certainly didn’t have room in the budget for special equipment, especially for sub-standard students. I don’t think that’s a very good attitude for a teacher to have.\n\nIt made me want to help Roscoe even more, so I’m trying to come up with a plan to motivate him properly. The funny thing is, even though Roscoe’s a really big guy, and he’s in the school on a football scholarship, I think he might be kind of into guys. He has this really gentle way about him. And I’ve caught him looking at me in funny ways, now and then. When I catch him, he grins this big cheesy grin and jokes it off, but I dunno. Is he getting a crush on me? I’m not sure how I feel about that.\n\nI told Jerry and Pyotr about my plans to run a D&D campaign They were both encouraging, but neither of them seem interested. I guess that’s cool, though. Not everyone can be into D&D. Jerry asked me some questions about the game. I guess he’s never known anyone who played before. I invited him to try it, and he said he might take me up on it as a one-shot thing, but he didn’t know enough to be able to commit to a long term game. He invited me to come to a swim meet as his guest and said I’d be able to hang out in the team area to get the best view. I said yes, of course. I mean, seeing Jerry in just a speedo? Maybe getting to hang out in the locker room or something? Yes, please!\n\nOh! I had kind of an embarrassing encounter with Pyotr. I came back early from a class that was canceled, and Pyotr didn’t have a class; I was going to ask him if he wanted to go to breakfast. I opened the door kind of abruptly, and Pyotr was in his bed, naked, jerking off. He grabbed the blankets when I came in, of course, and I apologized a lot. He actually seemed to think it was pretty funny. “No big deal,” he said with a shrug. “It’s not like I haven’t seen you doing it at night.” That was really embarrassing. I have done it a few times; I forgot how good his night vision is. I’ll have to be more careful. I did get a quick look at him. He’s got nothing to be ashamed of!\n\nI have to say, fall in New England is really beautiful. The trees are changing colors so fast that it’s almost like fireworks in slow motion. The weather’s nice. Warm days and brisk nights. There’s going to be a bunch of Halloween parties at the end of the month. I’m trying to come up with a really good idea for a costume. Hoping to start my game soon, too. So much going on!\n\nThanks for listening, Diary.\n\n-\tChet\n\nChet’s future at college is up to you.
