"description": "The Dharman are a species created by myself for my Sci-Fi universe. This species can be used by others, but I ask that you always credit me for the species and drop a link to my inkbunny ^^ \n\n***\nIn 3088, humanity went to war with itself. The United Terran Alliance (UTA) had grown too large. The inner core worlds had hiked up taxation and recruitment on its outlying colonies and mining operations in 3078, while lowering taxes and military responsibilities of core planets such as Earth and Mars. The outrage started in distant mining colonies, starting with multiple miner union strikes, and more and more people and systems began to join the discordant group. However, protests were still peaceful at this stage.\n\nIn 3081, all of that changed. Leaders of the dissidents were invited to Earth for negotiations, but upon arrival were imprisoned and executed. In retaliation, the Colony of New Harmony officially succeeded from the Alliance, and soon afterwards, it was joined by many more colonies and systems, creating the Confederation of the Terran Ascendancy (CTA). 65% of the Alliance succeeded in short order. Negotiations were again attempted, with the Earth representatives having to instead go to New Harmony. Talks quickly derailed, and both sides prepared for war.\n\nFebruary 8th 3088 saw the war begin at Hollis. While the initial battle and war went well for the UTA, retaking several border systems. However, all of that changed on June 30th, 3089. Archon Industries, the lead Military Industrial company within the Alliance and manufacturer of the majority of the UTA navy, secretly defected to the CTA over trade issues with the Alliance. They provide the CTA with blueprints of current UTA vessels, deactivation safety codes, and weakness assessments. On July 24th, the information was used at the Battle of New Harmony. The CTA lured the UTA fleet into committing the vast majority of their fleet by feigning weakness at the heart of the Confederacy. However, once the fleet jumped in system, their ships were quickly overridden. Those that did not surrender were destroyed, and in a single day, the UTA lost almost 70% of its fleet and personnel. This led to the Peace of Harmony, which officially allowed the succession of the CTA.\n\nSuddenly losing over half of your space was catastrophic to the UTA, which was still reeling from the loss at New Harmony. They had to find a way to quickly bring more personnel into the service. In secret, they reached out to a notorious outlaw, Dr. David Ravenworth. \n\nDr. Ravenworth was a genius at genetic modification and splicing, going against Alliance law against such experiments. They commissioned him to create a race that could quickly repopulate and serve loyally to the Alliance. So he created the Dharman.\n\nThe Dharman are a splice of Human DNA with aspects of canine, feline, reptilian, and several alien species. This created a being that was faster, stronger, more durable, and most importantly, loyal to a fault to the Alliance. \n\nThe Alliance faked a raid on his laboratory, the good doctor having been handsomely paid and tipped off to the raid so he wouldn't be there. Finding the Dharman there, who were already completely self sustaining, being able to breed. They also were exactly what the Alliance was hoping for. \n\nThe Alliance officially became sponsors of the species, taking a \"fatherly\" approach to the Dharman. They provided communal housing, education, and generally took care of them. This further endeared the Alliance to the Dharman, making them fanatical in their support of the Alliance.\n\nDharman are typically a bit shorter than humans, and usually heavier because of their dense muscles. They are exceptionally strong and fast, and with senses that surpass humans, it is nigh impossible to sneak up on a Dharman. They heal quickly from wounds, and even can slowly regrow limbs that are lost. They have very high metabolism, and consume between 4-5000 calories a day to keep up their energy. They have feline like eyes that can see well in the dark.\n\nThe fur coats of the Dharman are a source of pride. They come in multiple coat lengths, from short to long. They are naturally dark furred, usually blacks, greys, and tabby. However, you will rarely encounter a Dharman with their natural fur color and pattern. They use genetic modification to create unique fur patterns and colors, each as personal to a Dharman as their name. Those in military service typically will have a color that they use while in the service, usually black or other dark colors.\n\nWhile Dharman typically are canine in appearance, the DNA modification will sometimes cause other parts of the DNA to express itself. Dharman might have patches of scales, or even reptilian like limbs. They might have features that seem more feline as well. They universally have tiny tails.\n\nDharman are exceptionally communal, and bond very closely to their family groups and communities. Dharman pups are raised communally by all, and take on a last name that comes from their community rather than their individual parents' last names. They have short livespans, living from 17-25 years, with 21 years being the average lifespan. They mature quickly, being mostly independent at 2 years, start career training at 3 years, and reach sexual maturity at 5 years. They are considered fully independent adults at 6 years. They usually retire from their careers at about 15 years old, though some serve until they are 17. \n\nDharman are sexually open and free in their communities. However, they are very strict about birth control. They use suppressants to keep them from causing unwanted pregnancies. This is particularly important because of the Estrus cycle of females, which makes females incredibly fertile, with almost a 85% chance of impregnation if they have sex unprotected during the heat cycle. Dharman have litters of 2-4 pups after a gestation of about 6 months.\n\nFemale Dharman usually choose to have their first litter when they become an adult, before they officially enter their careers. This is a bit of an expectation in Dharman culture. The pups are taken care of by the community after about 6 months of care by the mother.\n\nDharman see service in the Alliance military as the highest form of honor, and most choose to serve in the military in some way. They are most commonly found as marine contingents aboard UTA Naval vessels. Females have a proclivity to become combat medics. Pups that choose to serve in the military are formed into packs of about 30 individuals, and are assigned to a human handler, who raises and trains the pups into adulthood and throughout the majority of their military career.\n\nDharman loyalty is something of renown and infamy. There has never been a defector from their ranks, and they will gladly die in battle rather than surrender. Activists within the Alliance claim that it is from implants and mental conditioning, but these are rumors that are unconfirmed. \n\nDharman are not often found in the sciences. This is due to them having a bit lower IQ than most humans, as well as a very short life span in comparison to humans.\n\nDharman cannot impregnate other humanoids, though they can have sexual relations. However, it is rare for them to have such relations outside of their communities, though not unheard of.\n\nIt takes awhile for one to earn the trust and loyalty of a Dharman. However, if you do, you have a friend for life who will ride and die for you.\n",
