In a vast forest, hidden deep in some unnamed region, dozens of electric-type Pokemon lived in peace and harmony. They were mainly electric rodents, along the lines of Pikachu, Plusle, and Dedenne, along with a few other animal-electric types, such as Blitzle, Elekid and Shinx. Absent were mechanical Pokemon like Magnemite and Voltorb. This forest was also untouched by man, so the Pokemon lived freely without fear of capture, especially by forces like Team Rocket.

In this forest, there lived a Pachirisu and an Emolga who had been mates for some time. It all began when Emolga defended Pachirisu from a furious Marowak that had wandered into the forest and took offense when Pachirisu tripped over its tail. Emolga was able to keep Marowak busy until the guardian of this forest, Raikou, arrived to drive out the intruder. Pachirisu was instantly smitten with Emolga for its heroism, despite the fact that both Pokemon were male. Truth be known, Emolga had always felt a yearning it didn't understand, and never took notice of the female Emolga in the forest, so when faced with Pachirisu's advances, Emolga itself was surprised to find that it liked this very much. It was now some time later, and the pair of Pokemon excitedly went about their day in preparation for when they would meet that evening. Emolga was busily soaring about, collecting berries from the treetops, while Pachirisu was collecting sticks and twigs. They each went about their tasks merrily, watched with interest by the other Pokemon in the forest. A Shinx, overcome with curiosity, crept over to Pachirisu to ask what he was doing in Pokemon language. Meanwhile, Emolga was happily humming as he collected berries, unaware that an angry Pokemon was watching him from below. It was Marowak, and he was accompanied by a Boldore. "Meddle in my business, will he? I'll show that flying punk... Even if ground-type moves can't hit him!" he growled. "Can we eat all his berries?" Boldore asked. "How do you eat?? You don't even have a mouth!" Marowak growled, "Now knock him down! We gotta wrap this up before Raikou gets here!" he ordered. Boldore turned toward Emolga, and in the next instant, his panicked cries filled the air! Pachirisu dropped his sticks suddenly as he heard his mate yell. "E-emolga??" he stammered, rushing toward the scream. Emolga was trapped under a pile of rocks that were clearly thrown by Boldore, his berries scattered over the floor. Marowak stood over him, glaring. "Now who's all high and mighty, hm? Not so tough against rock types!" he laughed. Pachirisu arrived and tried to use thunderbolt on Boldore, but Marowak intercepted it with his lightningrod ability! "You, huh? You'd better butt out, shrimp..." Marowak warned as Boldore lumbered over to join him. Emolga grunted from under the rocks, but couldn't budge them. "R-run, Pachi! I couldn't bear to see you hurt!!" he shouted. Pachirisu clenched his teeth. "I-I won't let you hurt my Emolga! You'll have to take me out first!" he cried. Boldore stamped its foot like a bull. "Go away! I'm hungry for berries!" he warned. Marowak snickered. "There's no way you can beat both of us!" he said. Pachirisu thought about it, and then growled. "I can beat one of you! Take this!!" The small squirrel used Discharge, sending electricity flying everywhere! Marowak's lightningrod ability could only pull in so much of it, and several jolts flew into Boldore, zapping its strength! Pachirisu kept using Discharge, hoping to knock out Boldore, but Marowak started moving right through the attack! "Pachi... look out!!" Emolga cried, scratching at the ground in an effort to dig his way out! Suddenly, a mighty roar startled all the Pokemon! "You DARE intrude on this place again!?" Suddenly, Raikou leapt between Marowak and Pachirisu, and glared furiously at the trespassers. Marowak stared in abject terror. "L-lord Raikou... This is... A big misunderstanding!!" he stammered. A furious roar from Raikou, and Marowak started fleeing in a panic, followed by Boldore. "Not so fast... I'm making certain you exit this forest..." Raikou growled, following after them!

Pachirisu hurried over to Emolga and helped him out from under the rocks. "Pachi... You...You saved my life!!" he gasped. Pachirisu blushed and looked at the ground. "Well, uh... You know..." he babbled. Emolga stepped over to him and kissed his cheek. "You were very brave, my love." he whispered. Pachirisu chuckled, looking into his eyes. "Just like you... You've always been my hero, Emolga." he said. Emolga hugged him. "Now, you're mine." he said. Their tails brushed against each other as they embraced, but they soon separated. "What a mess... I'd better pick up these berries!" Emolga sighed. Pachirisu brushed him with his tail before heading off. "I'll meet you soon, cutie... I left a pile of junk, too." he said.

That evening, they met up at a secluded glade, where they went about their work. The sticks and twigs were used to build a small fire, with the berries stuck to the end of some small sticks so they could roast them. They ate together, watching the sunset while they sat close, Pachirisu's tail snuggling around Emolga's body. "Pachi... I'm glad I met you. You're the best mate an Emolga can ask for." the flying squirrel Pokemon said eventually. Pachirisu nuzzled up close to Emolga and sighed contentedly.
