Episode 8: Guardian Angel


It had been about a week after most of the Mobians had moved in with Marinette. Hawk Moth hadn't exactly been silent, but his villains were pretty by-the-numbers for the time being. There were other things making Marinette a bit more stressed out at the moment, and she was so lost in her own head as she started home from school, she didn't notice her best friend Alya running up with an agitated look on her face. "Girl!! Okay, I waited until after class, now tell me... What is the meaning of THIS??" she shouted, holding up her phone. Marinette jumped with a start, looking at the screen and blushing profusely. Alya had logged onto a tabloid website, and found a story, complete with pictures. The pictures showed Marinette out at various romantic spots throughout Paris...with Cat Noir! "Did you seriously start dating HIM?? And I'm getting scooped instead of my best friend actually letting me in on such a huge development?!" she shouted. "Shhh, Alyaaa... Of course it's...not true. That's a tabloid! They sell lies all the time!" she said with a nervous chuckle, "I'd love to talk this over more, b-but I just remembered I have uhh... a sewing emergency! Can't wait, bye!" Marinette babbled, dashing off while Alya shrugged hopelessly. Once they were out of sight, Tikki popped out of her purse. "A sewing emergency?" she questioned. "I don't know what to do, Tikki! Now pictures of me and Cat are all over the internet! How did it get this far?? Aaagh, is this wrong? Should I break it off?" Marinette wondered, being a bit dramatic. Tikki shrugged with a hopeless expression. "You need to figure out if you're happy with him, I guess." she advised.

As Marinette passed an intersection on the way home, she just missed running into a red-furred echidna, a friend of Sonic's who'd recently been transported to this world, Knuckles. In the time he'd been in Paris, he'd still not yet met up with his friends, and was feeling a bit frustrated. "...There's got to be a way back home. I can't leave the Master Emerald unprotected for so long like this..." he grumbled, looking up as some large screens on the sides of certain buildings started depicting the news. "Another day, another Akuma report! The Bubbler resurfaced last night, however with the aid of Ladyblaze and Silver Noir, Paris' own resident cat and bug team easily dispatched the threat! Now, on to the weather..." Knuckles squinted as footage of Ladyblaze and Silver Noir was shown, but he shrugged. "Nah, Blaze would never be caught dead wearing something like that. But who could they be...?" the echidna mused.


Adrien had just gotten back from school, and Amy was about to head out. "Off to meet up with my Sonic...uh, and Tails. Sorry to run out so soon, Adrien!" she said a bit sheepishly. Adrien waved as he passed her on the steps. "Eh, I got homework anyway..." he smiled, "Tell the guys I said hi!" With that, Amy was on her way, and Adrien met Silver at his room. Plagg was quick to lend his energy to Silver, so he could transform. "Time for Silver Noir to patrol! Ahh... Guess you're gonna be busy though, huh?" the hedgehog murmured. Adrien nodded. "Homework, yeah..." he said, holding up his school bag to make his point. Silver nodded, waving goodbye before heading out the window to start his patrol. Plagg gave a yawn. "You probably should actually do homework, Adrien..." he murmured. Setting down his bag, Adrien plopped onto the sofa with a dreamy look in his eyes. "You're probably right... But I wanna be ready for my date!" he smiled, lifting his phone, still wallpapered with pics of Ladybug, but he pulled up a secret stash of pics... of Marinette. Plagg floated behind the couch with an awkward expression. "Only this kid could fall for the same girl twice and not realize it..." he whispered to himself.


Sonic and Tails had gone to meet up with Amy, so the only Mobian at the bakery when Marinette got home was Blaze. The cat was lounging in the guest room, calmly reading a book, so Marinette retired to her room. "The coast is clear..." she whispered. Out of a disguised sewing box, several colorful Kwamis emerged, cautiously looking around. "Whew. I hate staying in the Miracle Box all the time..." whined Trixx, the fox Kwami. "Yeah... I wonder if I should actually tell Blaze about you guys..." Marinette asked herself, "I've barely had time to process becoming the guardian before these visitors from another world showed up..." she sighed. "Nor have you had time to give us glorious purpose again. It's...it's...boring!" the horse Kwami, Kaalki, complained. Marinette was starting to sweat as the childlike Kwami started to complain louder, but Tikki stood up for her. "Calm down! Marinette has a lot on her plate right now! I'm sure you'll all get your moments sooner or later!" she assured them. Marinette ushered the Kwamis back into the Miracle Box, which was more of a round ladybug-spotted sphere, and sighed. "This would be a bit much to put on Blaze right now, too... Ack! And I have a date with Cat Noir to get ready for!" she realized.


Adrien was giving his hair a once-over in the bathroom mirror. Of course, for a model, a "once-over" could mean something very different than for a regular person. At any rate, while he was ensuring his golden locks were in perfect condition, Plagg was munching some smelly cheese nearby. "Mmm... You know, Adrien... I wonder... Where do ya see this thing with Marinette going?" he asked. "Huh? What do you mean...?" the boy asked. "Well..." Plagg murmured, "She doesn't know you're Adrien. Wouldn't it work better for her to date, well, Adrien?" he pointed out. He bit his lip. Sure, the boy who let Succubus mind-control him into taking her virginity. That relationship will totally work. "She likes Cat Noir, not Adrien. Every time I'm around her as Adrien, she freaks. But she can actually talk normal with Cat Noir..." he said. Plagg gulped down the rest of his cheese and sighed. "What happens when she does find out the truth?" he asked. Adrien looked away from Plagg, not wanting to think about it. "I guess...it'd be up to her what happens..." he said with a bit of effort. More likely, they would break up, either for her safety or because she can't stand him, that was what he truly believed, though he didn't want to believe it... She made him happy. He wanted to hold on to that.


Knuckles had wandered to the river, where he could sense a familiar energy. He had to dive into the water, and when he surfaced, he was holding a sparkling green gem. "A Chaos Emerald... They must've been sent here with us!" he mumbled, admiring the glowing gem as he floated on the surface of the water. It...reminded him of his failed duty, and he sighed. "One Chaos Emerald won't be enough to get us home." he groaned. "Ah, but it is quite lovely, isn't it?" Looking up toward the shore, Knuckles could see a familiar bat girl flapping just above the ground, smirking at him. "Rouge! Fly off, bat! I'm in no mood for you right now!" he snapped, wading his way toward the shore, though moving away from Rouge's direction. The bat wasn't leaving, though. "You can mope all you want, I don't care. But we can't have you losing that Emerald now, so why don't you give it to me to look after?" she smirked, reaching toward him. Knuckles swatted her hand away. "We can't have you hording the emeralds, either! Now scram!!" he shouted. But the bat just wouldn't leave him be...


Gabriel Agreste stood in his butterfly-filled lair, attaching a second pin to his suit. "I don't know where Dr. Eggman's gone to during the past few days, but the quiet has finally allowed me to get around to repairing the Peacock Miraculous..." he thought. Just before Eggman and the Mobian's arrival, he'd acquired the translated texts needed to make such a repair, but like Marinette with her Miracle Box, he'd been too distracted to deal with this. "...Now, Nooroo, Dusuu, unify!!" With this command, he activated two Miraculous at once, the two Kwami's merging with the jewels and transforming him into a new form of Hawk Moth, more feathery, and equipped with a peacock folding fan. He took a feather from the fan into one hand, and grabbed a butterfly in the other. "Akuma, Amok, fly forth and corrupt this frustrated guardian, cut off from that he was sworn to protect!" the villain sneered.

As Knuckles stomped away from Rouge, fuming with anger, the black butterfly and feather both flew into the Chaos Emerald in his hand, and a link was established. "Guardian Angel... My name is Shadow Moth..." the villain said in his mind. Knuckles tilted his head. "Huh? I've got a moth in my ear??" he stammered. Shadow Moth rolled his eyes. "Just listen... You couldn't protect that which your duty demands, so I'm giving you the power to protect anything else in need of a guardian! In return, I ask you to get me a different set of jewels... Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous!" he declared. As an angelic robe covered Knuckles' body, a pair of wings flitted just behind him...not quite attached to his back. "Your wings are a Sentimonster, a creature that I created to assist you. They will take you to what needs protecting...and can also act independently from you." Knuckles nodded, and raised his fist as he rose into the sky. "I'll keep everything safe... And no cat and bug will get in my way!!" he shouted.


Later on that night, Marinette's date had concluded back at her house, with her sprawled over her bed, accepting the thick cock of her beloved leather-clad kitty as he locked lips with her! Through the barrier, she could see Guardian Angel flying overhead. "Someone should cover you up! Heh..." the echidna scowled before flying off. "...An akuma!" Marinette gasped.

Cat Noir found the crashed car, having struck a fire hydrant. "Better not be a drunk driver, 'cuz this kitty's NOT happy to be here right now..." he grumbled, peering into the broken window to assess the situation. "Huh?" To his surprise, the passengers were all protected by bubble-shaped shields. "Hey, we just fought Bubbler! Or... wait, these aren't bubbles, are they?" he murmured, pressing a switch on his stick to pull up its phone. "Silver here! What's up?" asked the hedgehog on the other line. "We got a villain! Be on the...lookout..." Cat murmured, looking down the street to notice that the other vehicles on the road were also covered in bubble-like shields.

"Spots on!" Marinette transformed into Ladybug, and tried to break out of the shield she was stuck in, but her yo-yo simply bounced off it. She picked up the yo-yo and opened its phone. "Blaze! I'm stuck! I need an assist!" she said. "On my way..." Blaze replied. However, Marinette stared at her yo-yo for a moment, and had an idea. "Never mind, go and find Cat Noir!" she said, hanging up. She then reached INSIDE the open yo-yo, and pulled out a pair of sunglasses, from which Kaalki emerged! "Ladybug! How wise of you to finally call upon my glorious assistance!" the horse Kwami smiled as Ladybug put on the shades. "Kaalki, unify!" The powers of Ladybug combined with the horse Miraculous, and she became "Pegabug!" With that, she was able to use the horse's power to create a portal and transport herself out of the trap! As she escaped, Rouge landed on the balcony, tapping on the barrier. "My, that's a nifty trick... I wonder what other tricks this girl has up her sleeve..." she smirked.

Guardian Angel was on the loose, using his power to trap anything "valuable" behind protective barriers. For instance, the kart of the sweethearts ice cream maker, Andre, who tapped his scoop against the barrier with a saddened expression. "How can my ice cream bring people together if I can't bring the ice cream to people!" he cried. Elsewhere, a mouse fled a hungry cat, and a tiny portal soon surrounded it, the cat swatting the portal in frustration with its paw before jumping in alarm at the sound of a barking dog...and then running smack into the barrier that now surrounded it, too! "If you won't get along, you'll be separated!" Knuckles huffed. "Hey! Knux! Takin' a break from Eggman trickin' ya for a change?" The echidna looked to see Sonic, Tails and Amy approaching. "I'm doing all this for everyone's own good! And since you guys are trouble magnets, I'll have to hold you all still!" he shouted, starting to form a barrier around the trio. However, Sonic dashed out before it could solidify. "Missed me!" he smirked, "Even with wings, you'll never keep up!" he taunted, leading the agitated Knuckles away while Tails and Amy banged on the barrier. "Brrr... I-it's kinda cold in here, isn't it?" Amy shivered, sitting down and hugging her legs. Tails sighed and sat next to her, his tail wrapping around her body to keep her warm. "Guess we're stuck together until the others can get us out..." he murmured. Amy nodded, resting her head on his shoulder. "Sonic will...have us out in no time..." she assured herself.

Before long, Knuckles decided to stop chasing Sonic, and as a result, Sonic turned to chase him. "Hey, where ya goin, Knucklehead??" he shouted. Knuckles held up the corrupted Chaos Emerald. "I need to find the rest of the Chaos Emeralds in order to get back to the Master Emerald... and I need to find those Miraculous things!" he grunted, landing on a nearby rooftop as Sonic approached, "I'm gonna need you to hold still!" the echidna growled as his wings detached, soaring down and taking Sonic by surprise by attaching to him and carrying him up into the air! "H-hey! Put me down!!" he stammered as the wings lifted him higher. He was high enough that Silver Noir and Ladyblaze spotted him. "There's something you don't see every day..." Blaze murmured, heading for Sonic along with Silver. The wings dropped him before long, forcing Silver to hurry up and grab the falling hedgehog with his psychokinesis! "I gotcha! What's with the wings...?" he murmured, looking around. Knuckles and his wings had escaped. "Knuckles is here... and he's been akumatized!" Sonic announced. Blaze scratched her head as she thought what that would mean, watching as Sonic and Silver joined her on the ground. "If Knuckles is here... Who else could be here...?" she wondered.


Ladybug found Cat Noir tapping the barriers around the people in the crashed car using his stick. "...Hey, milady. Have you been horsing around lately?" he smirked, recognizing the horse Miraculous sunglasses added to her costume. "No time for jokes, kitty. Why aren't you cataclysm-ing those barriers?" she asked. Cat Noir pointed out the other barriers down the street, and Ladybug chuckled awkwardly. "Point taken. We'll need the Miraculous Ladybugs for all this." she murmured. Cat Noir gave up trying to break the barrier with that, and glanced at Ladybug as they looked around for clues as to the villain's location. "So... Just a little question... Is there like, any circumstance where you ever revealed your identity to anyone? Like, at all?" he asked her. She knew why he was asking; He wanted to tell Marinette. "Nope, never..." she lied. Cat Noir raised an eyebrow. "Well, Master Fu, obviously?" he pointed out. She gave a soft chuckle. "Oh, that doesn't count. He chose us to hold the Miraculous, we didn't reveal our identities to him! And you saw how dangerous it was even for him to know, in the end..." Yes, Hawk Moth had found out about Master Fu, and manipulated Ladybug in order to track him down. It was the event that led Ladybug to becoming the guardian of the Miraculous. Passing the Miracle Box on resulted in Master Fu losing his memory...a necessary move to preserve the heroes' identities. Cat Noir looked like he wanted to discuss it more, but suddenly, a pair of barriers surrounded both of them, separating the heroes!

"Yes! Now they're cornered!" Shadow Moth declared as Knuckles the "Guardian Angel" approached them. However, Ladybug retransformed into Pegabug, having taken the time to feed Kaalki before meeting up with Cat Noir, and used a portal to escape once again! "Cataclysm!!" shouted not Cat, but Silver Noir, smashing the barrier holding Cat as he and Blaze arrived on the scene! "Cat's outta the bag! And now... H-hey!!" Cat Noir yelped as the wings picked him up straight away, lifting him into the air! "C'mon! We need to get home!!" Knuckles shouted. Blaze ignored him, and knocked the Chaos Emerald from his hand with her yo-yo! However, before anyone could grab for it, Knuckles placed a barrier around it! "Ha ha!!" he laughed. "Shoot, I think the akuma's in there! And it's a Chaos Emerald, so I don't think it'll break without a cataclysm!" Blaze said. This could be a problem. "First thing's first... Gotta get the kitty down. Keep the villain distracted!" Pegabug said, swinging up after Cat Noir. "What good are wings if they have a mind of their own?" Cat frowned, pouting as he awaited rescue.


Having a bit of time on their hands, and being quite alone together trapped in their protective barrier, Tails and Amy found themselves passing the time with a bit of fooling around. Only a real man makes a girl moan like that..." she teased, "Though, I shouldn't say that; I'd probably get ya moaning the exact same way, foxy!" she laughed before flying off. Tails and Amy's faces were both beet red. "When did Rouge get here...?" the fox murmured. "...I dunno, but... D-don't stop, Tails..." Amy whispered.


Cat Noir dropped back down to the street, having been freed from the wings, and dashed over to the barrier-protected Chaos Emerald while the others were keeping Knuckles distracted. "So, I gotta break the barrier, but I also gotta break that jewel. Too bad Silver already cataclysmed..." he murmured, giving the barrier a whack with his stick uselessly. Silver was occupying the wings as they flew about, while Blaze used her flaming yo-yo to force Knuckles to back up. "You wanna fight with me?? Rrrgh, fine, I won't trap you, bring it!!" the echidna growled, leaping towards her and throwing some punches the cat's way! Since the echidna was occupied, Ladybug took her opportunity. "Lucky Charm!!" she called out, hurling up her yo-yo! Down dropped a large signal light. "Whoa! What am I to do with this...?" she wondered. She couldn't see anything specific to do with it, so she turned on the light and shined it toward Knuckles. "Gahhh!!" he groaned, covering his eyes while the wings flew back to him, lifting him up to try and get him out of the blinding light! "Don't like that, hmm?" Ladybug grinned, chasing him with the light just to see what would happen.

Spotting the beam, Rouge the bat flew closer, surveying the scene. "Hmm... aha!" She spotted the Chaos Emerald on the ground, which was currently more or less unguarded as Cat Noir had turned his back to watch what Ladybug was doing. Smirking, the bat swooped down to the emerald, finding that the barrier was preventing her from grabbing it. "Hmph, I'll take care of this!" she growled, and started to forcefully smack her heel against the barrier, trying to break it! Noticing the commotion, Silver called out to Cat Noir. "It's time for a cataclysm!" he shouted as Rouge lifted her leg high for a hard strike. Cat Noir turned quickly. "Cataclysm!!" He shattered the barrier quickly, and Rouge's kick struck the emerald hard, breaking it in half! "Whoa, she's strong...!" Cat observed. A black butterfly and feather emerged from the broken emerald, and Ladybug knew what she had to do. "No more evildoing for you... Time to de-evilize!!" she shouted, catching both with her yo-yo to purify them! As a result, Knuckles reverted to normal and the wings vanished. As the echidna fell, Silver was quick to catch him with his powers. Then, the signal light burst into Miraculous Ladybugs, which repaired the Chaos Emerald, erased all the barriers, and even repaired the crashed car. All was well. "Pound it!" The four heroes all bumped fists together, celebrating another villain defeated.


Shadow Moth growled in aggravation. "You've found some new Mobian allies today, Ladybug and Cat Noir... But I have new power as well. And each new ally you make is just another possible victim...for my akuma." he sneered. "Lost again, did you, Agreste?" Shadow Moth turned with a start at the sound of the familiar voice, finding Dr. Eggman had returned! "And where, pray tell, have you been?" he asked the doctor. Eggman smirked. "Well, while you were busy with some rather questionable fashion, I went back into production for more duplicate Miraculous..." he stated. Shadow Moth held his forehead, looking rather agitated. "What good are more phonies that we cannot activate?? Such a waste of time!" he complained. Eggman gave a sly chuckle. "And who says...we can't activate them?" he replied a bit ominously.


Sonic arrived in time to catch Rouge before she could make off with the Chaos Emerald. "Just want to keep it safe for ya..." the bat said awkwardly. "I'm sure..." Sonic huffed, keeping a hold on it. Silver and Blaze were talking to Knuckles in the meantime. "You ever see yourselves in those outfits?" Knuckles snickered. "Unfortunately, yes..." Blaze sighed. Silver ignored that. "So, you wanna stay with Sonic and the others? They're staying at this bakery..." he told him. Knuckles shook his head. "I have no plans to settle into this world. I'm gonna track down those Chaos Emeralds... They're our best chance for getting back home." he said. Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous were beeping, meaning they didn't have long before changing back. "We have to go! Bug out!" Ladybug said in parting as she swung away. "Catch ya later, Silver!" Cat Noir added, vaulting away with his stick. Silver and Blaze started to head off as well, while Rouge took flight to go wherever she planned on next. This left Sonic and Knuckles. "Well... Maybe you don't wanna stay with us... But it has been a while. Maybe I can getcha to stick around for just a little bit longer?" the hedgehog smirked. Knuckles raised an eyebrow and smirked back. "Heh...maybe..." he mused.


Ladybug arrived back home, transformed back, and before she could put away the horse Miraculous, Blaze surprised her. "You have another Kwami?" she asked, causing Marinette to gasp in alarm. "Ahh, no, I'm a, uhhh... I'm a talking dolly!" Kaalki stammered, falling into Tikki's arms and going limp. Blaze crossed her arms as Marinette held her forehead. "A bunch... There's a bunch..." she sighed, opening up the secret compartment in her room to reveal the Miracle Box, into which she placed the sunglasses, but out of which all the Kwami's emerged! "Marinette! A stranger!" Waaze, the turtle Kwami gasped. "It's okay... You see, Blaze, it's a bit of a long story, but... I recently became their guardian." she explained. Blaze looked around, surprised at how many there were. "Their guardian... How have you kept this secret?" she asked. Marinette looked a bit distraught. "It's been hard... The Kwami have grown restless hiding so much..." she sighed. "Yeah, it's boring!" Trixx whined. Marinette turned away and dabbed her eyes. "I can't get distracted. I need to focus on beating Hawk Moth... and keeping the Miracle Box safe... I was foolish to start dating Cat Noir. I should be keeping him at arm's length...for everyone's safety." she sniffled. Blaze frowned at that. "Well, I can't tell you how to handle your love life... But I know about this now. I can help while I'm here..." she offered. Marinette looked at her with a smile. "Thank you... Though, I realize you probably won't be here forever..." she realized. The Kwami scattered to find hiding places as the ladder hatch opened and Tails poked his head in. He looked a bit tired. "Ahh... There you are, Blaze. Me and Amy are okay, call of the search... And good night..." he yawned, climbing back down the ladder. Marinette sighed, and Blaze glanced at her. "Maybe we should let Sonic and Tails in on all this?" she asked. "They'd know too much..." Marinette frowned.


Silver and Adrien also arrived back at the Agreste manor, and were talking in Adrien's room. "So, Ladybug escaped using another Miraculous...and she's guarding a whole bunch of them??" Silver repeated after Adrien explained. "The old guardian gave us both our Miraculous... He knew the identities of all the Miraculous holders...except Hawk Moth, of course. But now that Ladybug is the guardian, she doesn't want to follow the same rules. She wants my identity to stay secret to her... She's the guardian, shouldn't she know this?" he questioned. Silver scratched his head. "Well... I suppose she's being a bit like Knuckles... All those barriers were meant to protect things... Sonic scratched his head as he watched Knuckles leave. "Uhhh... Shadow Moth? Well... That doesn't sound good..." he muttered.


Early the next morning, Marinette awoke to find Cat Noir sitting in her window. "Cat... It's early!" Marinette stammered with a blush, sitting up in her bed. Cat Noir smiled, bashfully rubbing the back of his head. "Just wanted to check up on ya after last night's akuma attack. Woulda come last night, but I was gonna change back, and it was also really late..." he murmured. Marinette approached the window and hugged him. "I appreciate it, kitty. Even though the villain's power was literally protection..." she chuckled. Cat Noir chuckled back. "Well... You're worth protecting... Ahh, anyway, I'm sure you'll need to get ready for school, so, ahh... S-see ya tonight?" he asked with a hopeful smile. Marinette still had that thought at the back of her mind, that she should break it off, but... "Of course. Can't wait!" she said, watching as her kitty vaulted away from the window and into the sky using his stick. Once he was gone, Tikki emerged. "Good thing I didn't sleep out in plain sight..." she sighed. Marinette glanced at the Kwami. "I couldn't break up with him, Tikki... He didn't do anything wrong, he's been a perfect gentleman... a-and... an amazing lover..." she admitted, biting her lip, "But he can't be showing up randomly like that... Ohhh, what do I do?" she whimpered. Tikki shrugged hopelessly. The Kwami wanted to tell the truth. It was Adrien, the boy she'd loved so long, and clearly her heart knew it. But it wasn't her secret to reveal, and if it was the wrong time, the consequences could be dire. Glancing at the clock, Marinette yelped with alarm. "I'm running late!!" Nothing was easy right now...
